I know this house very well and I went to the church back in the mid and late 70's I went to the St. Peters Catholic school right behind the church and watched them film both the Amityville Horror and the possession when they put gas pipe lines to create a fire in one scene when the boy ran from the priest. The house in Toms River was moved from the corner for a lot of people where getting in to accidents stopping in the road with a curve in it to take pictures. They lifted the house and moved it a few hundred feet back then built another home in its place. I lived in Point Pleasant Beach from 1974 till 1985 and worked at Six Flags Great Adventure and on the railroad that went right by the church.

I watched the exterior shoots with my family when I was a little kid. James Brolin threw a fit one night, yelling "I'm not coming out of this trailer until you move all those people back!" Everybody was behind the police barricades. Some poor PA had to tell him there was nobody around the trailer and production was waiting on him. Also, @Millenniumforce story checks out. The house was moved on the lot I think it was after the second movie was filmed.

They actually rotated the house from the `79-`83 filming of the 3 movies. It was originally built with the one side of the house facing the water more so than now. It was a larger lot originally. They sold the right section, and moved this house to the left and rotated it to allow room for the house to it's right to be built. A lot of work for sure. Speaking of which, for all 3 movies, they extended the sides of the house by about 3 ft. to make the quarter-moon windows, widened chimneys and yes, Gambrel roof.

In the book "High Hopes: The Amityville Murders" it says after the DeFeo family was killed the victims families removed all the personal belongings from the house and left most of the remaining furniture in it (couches, chairs, tables, washer/dryer, dressers, pots & pans, etc.) so when the house was put on the market a year later, and bought by the Lutz family, it still had a lot of the DeFeo's furniture. (The DeFeo's beds were taken by the police as evidence, of course.) But in the Amityville horror case, it makes it appear as if the Lutz's were so frightened when they fled the house that they left behind everything they own and never returned. But according to the book "High Hopes", it isn't true. The Lutz family did take all of their personal belongings and just left the old DeFeo furniture, which they didn't buy or move in with in the first place. So they didn't really lose all that much.

In between filming Amityville 2 the Possession and Amityville 3D the owners had changed the quarter moon windows on the exterior facade to rectangle windows. This was on the side of the house without the porch. As the first and 2nd films had quarter moon windows on both sides. The movie house had also been physically moved on the lot after the filming of Amityville 3D. I believe the garage is in the same spot as it was in the films. All exterior scenes were shot at the house in Toms River. All the house interior scenes were shot on a sound stage in mexico I believe.

The house used to be close to the main road in Toms River. You could see the side of it while driving past. Looked just like it did in the movie. The road was moved and realigned about 20-25 years back, which makes the house look like it doesn’t exist nowadays. Another house was built between the road and house shortly after. The roof was redesigned and 1/4 windows removed to keep visitors from trespassing around that time as well.

Not the movie house the house in the films was purposely built and destroyed in amityville 3 it exploded at the end of the amityville 3 film
@jddogg1234562 жыл бұрын
@@robertholden12 Oh ok, I guess I made this all up for attention then… Did you ever think that maybe the house they blew up might’ve just been a movie set? Because Hollywood does that type of stuff you know. They don’t go around blowing up real houses in suburban neighborhoods for movie purposes. They create similar looking homes that they then destroy on a set. Most times they use a small scale replica that gets destroyed because blowing up a full size house is pretty dangerous, I would imagine. I don’t know why I even have to explain something like this. I live right up the street from the house that was used in the first Amityville movie. It’s still there all day, everyday. Unless maybe it’s a mirage or something. Maybe it’s the ghost of the house they supposedly blew up! How bout you try doing some research on the ‘Amityville Horror house Toms River’ before commenting something so ridiculous next time. Use Google and you can find a trove of information, books, news articles, pictures, video clips, etc, etc, etc about when they filmed the movie in Toms River and everything that’s happened since.

I grew up in Toms River and watched some of the filming at the house back then. It was indeed a big deal at the time. I was fascinated by it. I didn't see any actors during the filming I saw. Just 'rain and lightning'. My father was a volunteer firefighter in Toms River and helped out a little on the movie early on. The guy doing the special effects came up to him at the firehouse and asked about providing the 'rain' in the movie. He showed the guy around Toms River driving in the car that was in the movie (the one where the hood flies up and crashes into the sign. The crash was filmed at Hooper and Oak Ave in Toms RIver). I even tried to get on as an extra, but wasn't selected. When the movie came out, we all went out to see it at the Dover Theater in Toms River (sadly now demolished). I remember the audience laughing when all the familiar sites of Toms River were shown on screen. A couple sites you missed. Washington Street near the golf course. That's where James Brolin was riding his motorcycle. Also the Thomas Mathis bridge (which leads to Seaside Heights from Toms River, yes the MTV Jersey Shore Seaside Heights) which is featured in the movie when Margot Kidder is trying to get back to the house towards the end.

Thanks for sharing this. I knew the movie house was in Tom's River, just didn't know the real difference. In Milwaukee there are Dutch Colonial Homes that still have the fly eye windows as I call them. They're smaller windows, but still I always think of The Amityville House or The Movie House in Tom's River New Jersey. I'm sure Dutch Colonial Homes are beautiful to own and live in. I understand that the Real Amityville House had a change of address from 112 Ocean Ave to 108 Ocean Ave, perhaps to help keep onlookers away somewhat.

I went up to the actual house in Amityville back in '92 and '94 with two different friends each time, as there was a debate about which house was the actual house with the second friend. The iconic windows were still there in '92, but had been changed to square windows by '94. Probably because, uh, some people were, um, walking up to the house looking in the front windows. And the address was changed before my first visit. The bar in the strip mall where DeFeo went after the murders was still there, although instead of Henry's it was called the Dakota Rose. I believe the next bar only occupied half the space of Henry's and the Dakota Rose. The other half becoming some other business. Cloud Nine is the name of the bar and may still be there. (I copied this comment from an old video I commented on. Looks like there is no bar there anymore. I also don't remember that black fence in front being there either time I was there. Not sure though. Couldn't have been the first time as that's when my buddy walked up to the front porch and looked in the window (yeah, we did stuff college kids do). Don't remember him jumping a fence. Wow, Google Maps has the street view blocked out!)

Cool video, I live in the county over. I remember my parents took us to the house just after the movie came out. I remember looking into the windows and seeing a house with the walls of the outer shell. They actually built a house around the actual house. Hence why the roofline is different. When we where there it looked just like the real house. From what I remember they built around the house to walk in between for some of the special effects as well. Not sure if it’s still there but there was a boat house on the property too.

I lived on Long Island my entire life. I was born in Amityville hospital in the 1960’s ( it’s gone now). And was raised 2 villages over. When the book first came out, so did interest in the house. But then, after the movie came out, the traffic on Ocean ave was insane. As teenagers we would even drive past frequently to catch a glimpse of the home..there would be a slow moving line of cars driving by every day ( I can’t imagine living there for obvious reasons). I remember the home changing owners through the years. As I remember the house was not moved or shifted. It was refaced. The iconic windows removed. They basically were trying to change the entire look of the house ( which they did). This was a big story in the news at the time on Long Island. They also changed the home address. We live in Florida now. It’s been years since I drove by and really don’t see the need to bother the current owners. Thank you.

What still puzzles me to this day is the Defeo murders....6 of them murdered in that home....all found in their beds on their stomachs...if you're familiar with the real house, then you know the staircases to the second, and third floors are open (in the entrance foyer, if you look up, you can see all the way up to the third floor)...how were six individuals, on two separate floors, shot to death by one person with a rifle, and not one of them stirred from their beds?...like i said, an open staircase (you would think a rifle blast would echo like crazy throughout the open stairwells)...first shot, no one stirs, or awakens, second shot, third shot, fourth shot, and even after the fifth shot STILL, no one climbed out of bed, and then up to the third floor, and the sixth shot which killed Dawn (I actually believe there were seven shots, because if I'm not mistaken I believe one of the parents was shot twice....HOW did not one of them awake, and climb out of bed to see what the hell was going on?...you would think there would of been one of the boys, or Dawn, that would of been found on the floor of their rooms at least....but all six of them were found in their beds, on their stomachs....HOW did not ONE of them awaken, and get out of bed to see what the "loud noise" was?.... autopsies found no trace of any drugs in their systems....HOW do you sleep through the echoing blasts from a rifle, in a home with a centralized OPEN staircase?....the house wasn't a mansion, it was just a colonial, I grew up in a very similar home, my 2 sister's had the third floor, same set up as the Ocean Ave. house, I, my parents, and my 2 brothers were on the second floor...and you could quite easily hear others on each of the 3 floors....it will always baffle me how not ONE of them awoke during the shootings, because the shots had to echo throughout the home.... I'm sorry, but I have to believe there was something dark, sinister, in that home, I just don't see how it's possible that no one awoke, and at least got out of bed to see what was going on....especially one of the boys, or Dawn, who were the last 3 to be shot, Dawn was even up on the 3rd floor and the last to be killed....5 or 6 shots...and she never even stirred from her slumber... there's something that's not right there....

Not only that, but you can hear a rifle shot 10 blocks away, none of the neighbors heard a thing exept the dog barking, so i really believe some paranormal happend, but not to that exsteam

I couldn't agree more with your opinion and can't understand why more people don't make this extremely logical point a major part of this story. No one really makes it a point of focus. It's brought up here and there but not really. It seems impossible for it to have been carried out the way it was reported. If it was carried out the exact way it was reported, then how could there not be those forces at play that you mentioned? Wouldn't the family have to be drugged to sleep through that insanely loud attack from a single assailant. They performed toxicology tests during the autopsies but found nothing....Crazy.... Again, I agree
@NickP3 жыл бұрын
Another great point. In my belief some of the neighbors of that tight nit and quiet community also would have needed to be drugged to sleep through that jarringly loud attack, forget about the poor victims inside the house. It doesn't make sense.

@@NickP ...There is definitely more to those murders... it's as if that house was "shut off" from the world for those fateful minutes that night....

Wondering what the bad joke was when you came up to the witching brew bar which is now a law office.....btw I have a relative who owns a home that looks exactly like the Amityville Horror house, inside and out, but no creepiness going on there. My Aunt and cousin are very religious.

I was going to reference "The Bar" in terms of exam vs an actual bar.. yeah lol... That's interesting how you have a relative that owns a virtual carbon copy of a house. My imagination would be running a bit wild on visits. Very cool.

Not sure if you had mentioned it but what was the reason why they didn't film at the actual house? Couldn't get permission?

The "big tree" was not taken down. The house was actually lifted off it's foundation and moved to the neighboring lot years after filming.

Thanks for the info.. A couple others have mentioned the move. I knew something was wrong when observing and comparing the property at the current site vs the movie.

Was this the same location/set they used for the 1979/1982 & 1983 movies?..as the outside and interior shots were identical in those 3 movies, apart from the cellar and the bannister on the staircase....The location of the "movie-location-house" looks completely different, I'd never have recognised it....The driveway looks to have been modernised, walls/bushes/reflagged-driveway etc. It also appears to look a lot smaller leading up to the house. 6:58 Watch out for the "Mothman":)..Are those the same church-steps from the 2nd one?, the one where Father Adamski took Sonny?....

I believe it was the same. Even more strange, they actually moved the house on plot to the left from its original location.

Actually, father Pecoraro testified in open court that he heard a voice say, "Get out!" and was slapped in the face when he was in the house. Furthermore, the idea that it is been "dismissed as a hoax" is just one camp in a number of camps of thought regarding the case.

I don’t believe the claims that the house was moved. It has external chimneys. Those can not be moved and tearing them down and rebuilding them would be about 50k. I don’t see that happening.
