In this episode, we take a closer look at the only two pieces of physical evidence to come out of the Amityville Horror investigation, which took place on March 6, 1976. Two photographs; one said to be the appearance of a saint, the other is claimed to be the ghost of nine-year-old John DeFeo. We'll break down these photos, look at the available information, and even do some comparisons of our own.

According to George Lutz, the “Ghostie Boy” photograph wasn’t discovered until a few years later, when he was choosing pictures for an Amityville picture book he was planning to put together, and his assistant, who was pregnant at the time, was helping him. It was because she felt the baby moving every time she picked up that particular photo, that they got intrigued and decided to take a closer look, finding then the strange figure peeking out of the door. So according to this, the Warrens sent Lutz all the photographic material taken that night, March 6th, 1976, but never noticed anything out of the ordinary. It’s actually a cool story, but fictional. It’s hard to believe no one noticed something like that from the beginning, when the pictures were being processed.

The fact that the baby jumped inside of the mother's womb everytime she looked at the ghost boy photo says a lot to me. I believe that it's little John DeFeo, the youngest DeFeo child....hopefully he accepted that he was dead in this world and peacefully went on to heaven.

I love intelligent debunking videos; thank you! About the glowing eyes: when my daughter was young [and couldn’t figure out how to time her face for photos (open your eyes… now; smile… now)] her body’s version of red-eye was golden-eye. We now have a lovely collection of family pics featuring 3 wide-eyed kids and one beautiful golden-eyed girl. Good times. Just another theory although your nickel pictures are most compelling. Seriously, who would have thought that would work?! Your wife is one smart lady!

If I’d bought that house I wouldn’t have said it was haunted it knocks down the resale. But why did people buy it remodel then sell at a loss? I have heard a few times at least one family who owned it later did say they had strange things happen in the house but they kept it quiet until it was sold. I don’t think we will ever know the truth. To many lies have been told on both sides.

That's really important insight, that they claim these things happen but didn't bother to take a photo or video of it, and that they had access to video and camera. Wouldn't that be one of the first things they would think to do after getting over the shock of their toilet turning black, the door and banister being ripped out. Maybe they wouldn't have thought to have grabbed the camera while it was happening, but at least afterwards.

This was back before recording your experiences became second-nature due to camera phones. Shoot, this was before small, hand-held video recorders. After cell phones became a normal part of life, people started recording and snapping pictures constantly. That’s why most people think that that’s what they would have done back then But when you take them to consideration the times, the lack of photographic evidence makes sense

Love this. The nickel effect is absolutely horrifying! I did a little bit of study into the history of photo manipulation as a kid because I always loved the creepy photos that people would use to claim a haunting (double exposures, faulty film, etc.), and I may have an even simpler explanation for the eye effect for you. What I learned was that before we had photoshop, manipulations were sometimes just painted directly onto a print using oil paints, then the manipulated print was photocopied or photographed a second time (so that the manipulation was absolutely within the "original" copy sent out). This could very well just be two tiny dollops of white paint applied with a fine brush and magnifying glass, such as one many people have attached to their workbench lamps.

I don't believe Ronnie killed all of them, the version of the story that makes the most sense is one where Dawn and her boyfriend killed the parents then Dawn Killed the kids to eliminate the witnesses. When Ronnie found out what Dawn had done, he killed her. So I believe Ronnie only killed Dawn and he spent the rest of his life in prison unjustly convicted until his death in March of 2021. Dawn was kind of a miscreant who had been trying to get friends and boyfriends to kill her dad so she couild run away to Florida. I think she finally succeeded but Ronnie stopped her from achieving her ultimate goal. Ithink this story is the only one ultimately with the ring of truth.

@@feyrieI've read Gerard Sullivan's book High Hopes. I've read Ric Osuna's The Night The DeFeos Died. I've watched Shattered Hopes which has interviews with those who knew the DeFeos. Months before the murders Dawn faked her own kidnapping to extort money to go to Florida ...it didn't work out as planned. According to the autopsy reports Dawn died at a significant amount of time after the others had died. The other bodies were in full rigor mortis whereas Dawn's body, upon discovery, was only in partial rigor mortis
@soso8824

@@feyrieAlso.....Dawn had gunshot powder residue on the front of her nightgown.....causing some experts to believe that she may have fired a weapon that night. And if you look at Dawn's death photo with her in the bed. No blood splatter on the headboard, nor around the blanket around her neck....yet it was concurred that she was shot dead, in the head, while in bed. No f.....g way. I never believed the official story and I never will.
@RightsForZombies
@RightsForZombies 2 ай бұрын
A much simpler explanation for Dawn’s body being in an earlier stage of rigor is that she was attacked last and Ronnie thought she was dead, but she wasn’t, leading her to die slowly without him realising. It’s pretty common for people to mistakenly leave unresponsive victims alive, only for them to slowly die later from their injuries. It’s a sad case, and doesn’t need the sensationalism of ghost stories.

For readings to have any meaning whatsoever you have to do it under very specific and controlled settings, and even then, frankly, they’re pseudoscientific BS.

The pattern on the plaid shirts are completely different. The two photos that you took for comparison did not change the colours sufficiently to account for the differences in the two shirts worn by the people in these photos. The noses on the two people are also different. And, the adult Paul Barts would have to be on his knees to be at the height of the person in the doorway. BUT, there are reports that the photographer's young son was on the premises the night this photo was taken, & I think that it is much more likely that it was actually a photograph of the photographer's son, & a much simpler explanation - Ascham's Razor.

i mean, if an adult wanted to pretend to be a lil ghost boy they could just get on their knees? why is that unlikely? it's super easy? Also the photo quality is so crappy, i'm not sure you can truely accurately analyze the pattern and facial features. Maybe it's a non-ghost kid roaming around, true, but an adult kneeling isn't any less probable imo

Kenny, I’ve been spiritual since my childhood and I’m 60 years old now buddy, I was about 9 years old, I woke up in the early hours of the morning and sitting on the bottom of my bed was a old man that I’d never seen before in my life, I told my dad in the morning about what I saw, he asked me to describe him and when I did he instantly said that’s my father Steve your grandfather, a couple of years later I went to stay with my grandmother and on her fireplace was a photo of a old man sitting in the back garden with a black dog, I said grandma who is this man in the photo and she said it’s my husband your grandfather and believe it or not it was the same man dressed in exactly the same clothes that sitting on the bottom of my bed two years earlier, he passed away when I was just 2 or 3 years old from cancer, that’s the only full spirit I’ve ever seen but I have seen other things and I’ve heard and sensed many spirits over the years, I didn’t ask for it and to be totally honest with you I wish I never had whatever it is I have, so spiritual activity is very real although I don’t believe a lot of stuff I see on KZbin like ghost adventures and other paranormal programs if I’m totally honest with you but believe me they are very real buddy. Hi Kenny! Great analysis. Through a lot of research and my curiosity about the supposed demonic boy in the photograph, KZbin recommended this video. And through his analysis, and through a lot of research, I managed to understand, and had the same perception as you, about photography. I did several different analyzes and realized that it was supposed to be Paul Bartz, from the shirt, the hairstyle, the young shape of his face. And about the shine in the eyes, it could have been the reflection of the photograph reflecting in the back of the eyes, as if it were a mirror, just like what happens to some people when they are photographed, I think. What's more, he didn't wear glasses during the entire investigation.

I do have dreams in some places about spirits that are true. I dreamed about the previous owner of my home, and he wanted me to contact his son, told me where to find him and his name, it was about mail and a lost investment. So I did and he was there and I mailed him the information about a stock investment that was being mailed to my house. Anyway, spirits do speak to us SOMETIMES! Hoax or not, it terrified me for years. To dismiss it as a "bad book" is, to me, nonsense. Bad non-fiction? Perhaps (although the Lutz's themselves said that Jay Anson added things that weren't true). A bad book? A bad story? Nope. It's one thing to "expose" whatever one thinks is a hoax, it's something else entirely to crap on this book-a best-seller at the time-which still holds up as a ghost story. Might the relatively primitive materials that contacts would have been made from back in the 70s produce a retroreflective kind of flash effect to a camera, particularly one loaded with IR film?

Good idea! Contacts back then were... well, I don't know if they were actually glass, but they were hard, nothing like the flimsy contacts we wear today.

I don’t know much about this case except about the murders but I promise you you will not believe in the supernatural/paranormal activity /poltergeist or demonic entities until you go through this kind of shit yourself. I dealt w this shit for 2 1/2 to 3 years and very few times maybe was I able to get my iPhone recording in time to capture an experience

Why, if you assume the whole thing is a hoax, do you think that they honestly would have set up a camera on a timer and that this dude might have been crouched awkwardly in a doorway for like 15 minutes instead of just cutting to the simplest explanation which is that he crouched down, they took a picture, and then went downstairs and had a good laugh over a beer or whatever.
@jeffallen3598

Remember, these days they put anti-reflective coatings on glasses where they didn’t back then. So it’s possible he did have glasses.. You may not really see it because the infrared photo changes the color. So black colors can come out white, etc.. So the “missing bridge” could be that it just blends in with the color of his face. But the coins in the eyes is really compelling too.

The photo probably is Bart. Looks like him. However I think your IR theory is incorrect. Skin glows white when lit with a flash or sunlight on B&W IR. A flash would also explain the glowing eyes. I shot a lot of B&W IR film in the 80s. But Bart may not have known what he was doing and didn't use a dark red filter which is required to get much effect/difference at all.

Also, in an interview one of the Lutz boys said George was into the occult, had satanic books, did spell casting and George summoned something. That was why it happened to the Lutz’s and no one else has had problems. I believe it was George’s fault, if something truly did happen.

Why does every ghost photo have to look so grainy? We have such amazing cameras now, yet the supposed evidence always looks terrible. Either that or it looks so fake it's funny. I get that photos looked bad back during this period, but they still look that bad even today half the time.

The ghost boy picture I debunked years ago. People have actually deleted my comments from their videos lol. Its the same guy seen in the first pic standing at the door with the radio cassette in hand. In other shots taken that day he is seen with a pair of glasses on or in his shirt pocket, hence the glare from the camera appearing to be two glowing eyes. The plaid shirt are the same and his hair is angled at front same as ghost boy. The camera used in the ghost boy pic was taking pics every couple of minutes or so, as explained by George Lutz himself in an interview.

It was debunked by someone else long before you started saying it wasn’t real. You’re passing on the knowledge, you are not the one who figured it out though. Not cool to take credit for other peoples work.

@@spiralrose BS. How tf would you know? Dumbass. I figured it out years ago without ANY knowledge from anyone else, I'm talking almost 2 decades. In fact some had questioned the ghost boy but no one to my knowledge ever really researched if that could have been someone who was there during the investigation. I came across a video one day where it was narrated by Mr. Lutz, this video had one very clear picture of the 'ghost boy', clear enough I could see the plaid short, but more importantly the glasses on the face reflecting the flash from the camera, giving the glowing eyes look. Further investigation of the video with its still shots, I noticed the one guy wearing a plaid shirt, his hair style and that he actually had glasses, and bingo. Actually most of my comments were deleted by several video uploaders, which I find quite funny. Others have most likely taken my work and taken credit for it.

That is not a ghost in the pic. That innocent boy is heaven. What you are seeing is demon. If you look closely at the photo, it may resemble a human but is distorted with ugly, unnatural texture to the face not to mention the eyes don't even resemble that of a human. That is a demon, not the ghost of the boy.

It really is an incredible reach. That house was full of people, but sure, there's some dude, kneeling on the floor with nickels in his eyes, posing for the perfect spooky shot and hoping nobody notices. Oof! This guy should say "it's a reflection" instead of bending into a pretzel to make his theory stick. I'm not even saying it's real. It might be the very dude accused of posing for the pic. But maybe it was just an accidental shot. Also, EVERYBODY had that haircut in the late 70s, so saying "Look! The hairstyles match!" is another reach.

Shiney eyes in that photograph by default, let’s me know it’s a living person they have captured. Usually things that are alive will have eyes glowing like that, or it’s something reflective- in general jt has to be something actually physically being there versus a ghostly being.
