My Grandfather fought the Japanese for four years in Burma and escaped from a POW camp, he had Four Medals. My father was a RM Commando Raider and fought with the US marines at Chosin in Korea, and he had three medals and a Presidential citation. I spent 23 years in the military, fought in four campaigns and have five medals , none of which are Jubilee/celebration medals. Was my service superior to either of these men? No, All British medals, that are not for gallantry, do Is tell you where the man has been not what he has done.

I served in the Royal Navy for 40 years and have 3 medals and a bar, your array of medals depends on where you served; mind you I was a Submariner, so of course I never went anywhere !!! Many people served in several war zones and saw things I would never want to see. I thank them for their service.

Never make a general judgement based solely on a display of medals. Some medals are awarded just for being sent somewhere but not necessarily doing anything whilst there. Some medals are given as souvenirs of our monarch’s anniversaries or a royal event. Very few medals are earned for bravery or distinction of active service and they are the only ones that really count.

That's not true. Just because you served in a war zone and were at risk doesn't mean you served any less than taking out an enemy position single-handed. Having one Wizz above your head doesn't earn you a mention in dispatches, but it proves you were part of a collective machine. The amount of medals this guy was wearing can't all be commemorative. Every Service Member of all World Armed Forces receive a Campaign Medal when sent to overseas in combat action. You can also earn a NON Combat Decoration to being sent overseas to locations or bases NOT INVOLVED A COMBAT ACTION. Like being sent to South Korea as example in a rotation or to another foreign base deployment that has NOTHING to do with a Combat or Police Action. They will have their own color recognition for that ribbon. None of these Soldiers have such Decorations with a special device attachment on them that involve actual combat roles or some note of distinction. Also, if they had served along as UN or NATO then they would have that award as well.....none of these men have that decoration. NONE of these men are wearing decorations for any heroic or valor decorations such as the VC, DSC, DFC, GC, MC, or any of the other distinction Medals. There is a simple way to overcome the situation where the wrong command is given. Because all will be well practised they will all know what the correct command should be (just like KCS silent drill) and should be briefed to carry it out so instead of the flight looking shite the person giving the command is shown up as incompetent. I did see a parade in Lincoln Castle a few years ago where the officer gave a wrong command during the present arms which caused utter chaos and much embarrassment.

A number of the personal have a hefty set of medals! Including the lady leading the band and one or more of the KCS. As the youngest service the RAF has the newest traditions. The exemplary marching of the Kings Colour Squadron is one of them, but they’re only human. The British armed forces march well with discipline and pride, but it’s not the robotic style and exaggerated steps of some less democratic countries. You are totally ignorant! That one British Soldier standing out front has a Iraq deployment medal, the rest are Ceremonial, Jubilee, Long Service. The UK Decorations these men are wearing are given to every member of the British Military depending on length of time in their military service. None of these have anything to do with Valor or Combat! These are Ceremonial Decorations honoring the Monarch's reign. The US Armed Forces do not have such decorations honoring Monarchs or Presidents. THAT IS HANDING OUT MEDALS LIKE CANDY. The US Military is the hardest to earn Valor decorations just like it is difficult to earn the British VC, Only High Ranking Officers just like in all Militaries earn as a standard non valor Distinguished Service type decorations. Enlisted men do not get those! American Armed Forces do not receive Knighthoods or Orders not since WW2 and that was ONLY to the highest ranking Generals in Combat Command. Nor does the US Enlisted men receive automatic honorific medals. They have to be in Combat and have done an act of extreme bravery to earn low level Valor decorations unless it was something extraordinary bravery to earn higher V honors. EVERY Military has long service decoration upon completing their designated period of enlistment, each successful completion another is earned where it is either a star or bar added to the previous one. Then deployment medal, or campaign medals and depending on how many times deployed in the same campaign a star or bar is added! Every Military has this same form of system of service decorations, Except the US Armed Forces DOES NOT HAVE CEREMONIAL DECORATIONS! My father was a US Marine in WW2, Korea and Vietnam and they do not give out decorations just willy nilly and he was in Combat in WW2 and Korea. He was on Iwo Jima and just 20 feet away on Mount Suribachi when our cousin Harold Schultz raised the Flag. You can have US Service men in years of frontline Combat and only receive a Combat recognition and or Campaign medal. Just like my father served in 2 wars in combat and never received anything of Valor, same with 2 of my father's brothers who survived the Bataan Death March and 3 years as a POW's but they were never awarded any Valor decorations only the same campaign decoration and just the POW medal. High Ranking officers taken prisoner would receive high valor decorations like General Wainwright getting the Medal of Honor. For what? High Ranking Officers of ALL WORLD MILITARIES give High Decorations to each other to pat themselves on the back BS

@@robshirewood5060 Incorrect. The Civil Air Patrol is a CIVILIAN Non Profit Organization. It never carries weapons or serves in any police action or armed conflicts. It is more of a cadet training auxiliary to prep youth to go into the Military branch of the Air Force. Each of the Civilian Police Forces ARE NOT Part of the Military Either! ( Britain has their own medal and badges for their Policing Agencies and auxiliaries also but this conversation is about what is issued in the ACTUAL ARMED FORCES ) The US has altered numerous badges (obsolete form ) replaced as a ribbon. There are a ton of US Decorations that have become obsolete. NO LONGER issued. Here is why it appears the USA has so many ribbons or medals is because it started out as PETTY competition between the Branches of the Military during WW1 that increased by the time of post WW2 where EACH BRANCH OF THE ARMED FORCES wanted their own medal unique to their branch ( So stupid and petty ) They would have performed the same deed but each branch would have their own design. The British has this too but not in Medals or Ribbons but in so many Uniform styles, gold bullion braiding, sashes, tons of various visors, head dress plumes etc. UK has FAR MORE VARIATIONS OF UNIFORMS----rather expensive too! The British military has the same forms of decorations or badges for shooting, unit citations, patches, a ton of various aiguillettes with further meanings attached to those etc. Plus you are awarded US and other Nation's Decorations when serving together in joint actions. Plus you have Common Wealth decorations. (The USA does not have Common Wealth Decorations) You have Orders of Chivalry for centuries with numerous degrees or levels. Titles for each level of Monarchy system Plus all those honor sashes. The USA does not have any of that. The UK was the largest World Power for centuries with the largest Naval Fleet and and a ton of conquered territories. The USA since the Colonies had none of that and did not have a real military up to the Civil War and that wiped out almost 800,000 Americans. The USA were isolationists and did not want to be involved in the Foreign Wars. So very little was put into a real Navy or Army...not until WW1....then the Crash effected everyone. That crash made it competitive for money from Congress to use for Military Defense. What Military used in training were weapons made of wood. ( Pathetic ) It was not until WW2 did the USA start building a real Military Corp and a NAVY. The USA Military Complex grew to a freaking ridiculous rate in its strive be the world leader. ( Yeah lets all go bankrupt ) The US Military is 10 times larger than the UK. Its nuts!!! The Navy is still being Stupid....battleships, Air Craft Carriers are OUTDATED for the future. Setting up bases all over the world is NUTS. These leaders think we should be the Police of the world. Now we are on the verge of insolvency just like what happened to the Cold War Russia. Massive waste of money and resources and all these proxy wars JUST TO ENRICH those in the Banking and INDUSTRIAL War complex! Every NATO nation should disband. Stop this stupid competition with Russia or China. They ARE NEVER going to go to WW3 ......they would rather make money. But Greedy Politicians, Neocons and Elites keep intentionally poking sticks in everybody's business! I know the American Public are fed up with it all------ we are on the verge of either a complete Financial collapse, Civil War or the UN and the Neocons are going to force Martial Law and replace the existing governments.

@@robshirewood5060 The Civil Air Patrol is civilian but it prepares youth for entering the actual Air Force if they so choose. It is not an obligation to join the military as per say in Return of Service obligations like those put thru Military Academies. They do assist in learning SAR but most students are not old enough to actually do the flying. That is for those who stay in after earning permits. The learn the basics and laws etc. to prepare them for higher learning to obtain their licensures. My daughter was in love with planes back at age two. She could tell you prop vs jet by sound at 10 K feet. I used to take her to air shows and she went up in a B-17, F- 14 , and twin prop Barron. One time the Gulf Stream pilots were warning it up and had been off in the hangar and they saw her at the fence being excited seeing it so close. They asked if she wanted to see the cockpit and she squealed. They took her in let sit in the captain seat and explained it all and she was in heaven. I took her to see my friend Chuck Carlock who flew choppers in Vietnam and wrote the book Firebirds. I used to fly with him and thought my daughter would get a kick out of going up in one. Nope she freaked out like she was terrified and boo hoo'd Go figure. He eventually donated all his slicks ( 4 ) to the Sam Johnson Vietnam Museum. These were the very ones he flew in Vietnam that the Army let him purchase. They are featured in his book. My daughter considered entering the Civil Air Patrol but lost interest by the time of becoming a teen. Texas A&M University also have a Corp of Cadets which has uniforms and Band etc. They wear the old style Cavalry Jodhpurs, dressage riding boots spurs, look like early WW1- WW2 style. ( I wear these styles for fun) But there are numerous Universities here that have Corps of Cadets not including the actual Military Academies like West Point, VMI or Annapolis. Ceremonial and parades are all part of the military role, they also serve in other roles, such as bandsmen who are medics, musicians who can also be signallers, or other such vital roles. The same applies to the Household Cavalry and Guards Regiments. Every armed forces in the world has ceremonial duties not just Britain and these are British forces not English forces. Of course we know the sun sets every day we have a ceremony on all military bases at the end of the day when the flag is lowered and in the morning when it is raised for another days duties. In the US military, particularly the Marines, we joked that the Army and Air Force got medals for Meritorious Chow Line Standing. I've seen Air Force people with more medals than a North Korean General. It's still harder to get a medal for valor in the Marines compared to the other branches. The majority of Marine Medal of Honor awardees died getting it. My dad was recommended for a Navy Cross (2d highest valor award) during WWII. He got a Bronze Star with a "V" device (4th highest valor award). I served 21-years in the US military. Seven in the Marines, then 14 in the Air National Guard (a reserve of the US Air Force). Did a tour in Vietnam as a Marine and a trip to Desert Storm as a Guardsman. I ended up with a total of 22 awards, 16 of them medals, six of them ribbons only. No valor awards, just one Meritorious Service Medal and one Air Force Commendation Medal. The rest were mostly "I wuz there" or "undetected crime" medals. The award I'm most proud to have is the Combat Action Ribbon I got in Vietnam as a Marine. Not every Marine (or sailor) gets one in a combat zone.

Ever been in a small area surrounded by buildings receiving verbal orders? It can be extremely difficult to make out the order plus it sounded to me the NCO said left turn not right, so some followed the order and some did as they had practiced it, it happens live with it

A lot medals are not always for active service, you can have long service medal, coronation medal, Jubilee medal to name but a few. You could go to a place, a country and never see action, especially if you are a cook lets say, or rear echelon in a safe place where you are not in danger, hence you can see lots of medals but not always earnt like a front line soldier who puts his or her life on the line daily, just saying.

I believe that is OWS and KCS? UN and NATO and all this shit wars are a waste of money and human lives.
