As a musician - playing in a band like this would be my dream gig - playing faithful recreations of Beatles songs that focuses 100% on the songs - and not wearing Beatle wigs and Sgt Pepper costumes. Every gig would be a musical feast for the soul.

The Analogues play perfectly all the advanced period songs of the Beatles without pretending to be them in any way. They are indeed the best Beatles tribute combo. Sheer musicianship.

Of course to single out ANY of the songs the Analogues perform as 'the best' would be wrong - just as it would be to do that for any Beatles songs. But this one in particular stands out for me. It stands out because it truly is one of THE best of the White album although I've seldom seen anybody cover it. Most reviewers cover it superficially although there have been a few who have lauded it. It is one of Harrison' s best efforts - deeply touching and It's placement in the song list gives the listener some deserved relief from the audial assault of Helter Skelter that preceded it - which serves to heighten it's impact. ...Well done - again - Analogues. You stayed true to the heart of this song and as usual your instrumentation is perfect.

Are there any Beatles songs that you don't perform live? I think even Revolution 9 is on the list because your mastery is incredible. Thanks for all these latest posts; I'm really enjoying them all. Cheers from Brazil.
@loeknederstigt77812 жыл бұрын
As a matter of fact Revolution 9 has been recreated from scratch by the Analogues (mostly Bart van Poppel) from newly recorded samples. On stage it is played on a contemporary tape recorder and accompanied by a video from artist Jaap Drupsteen. This is an audiovisual experience which brings back all the sentiments of that era, 1968 that is. The Vietnam war, the student protests in France, etc. It's unbelievable...

@@loeknederstigt7781 Yes, I watched the Revolution 9 video posted a few days after this one. It's a fantastic montage indeed. Cheers.

Many years ago, my band, "Lobster Venus," did a live version of Revolution 9 at about 60 percent of our shows. In fact, it was the only Beatles song we did. To do the song, we made very bizarre noises on devices we made ourselves, and we talked and yelled in very strange voices, and we hit pieces of washing machines and television sets with golf clubs, but mostly we just said random phrases through distorted amps all interwoven amongst each other. Of course we made up new things to say and noises to make each time we did the song. We usually got booed pretty badly until we learned to not let it go on for too long. About 6 minutes was usually the most we would go. But we also got standing ovations on occasion, believe it or not. Like I said, we were always drunk and/or on some weird psychadelic drug. We often had a radio on that was set to nothing but loud static for the background. Since we were called Lobster Venus most people were expecting something strange from the beginning. Penn Gillette of Penn and Teller was there one time (this was in LA and before he moved to Vegas) and he thought it was genius.

Beautiful rendition. In terms of accuracy, I haven't played the original side by side but I know it pretty well, and to me just something about the drums is not quite there. In the original they have much bigger impact (or space?), at particular moments. So that part of the overall tone/feel is missing here. Maybe just the genius of Ringo. Or George Martin. And yes I'm only being picky because this performance is so accomplished at reproducing the details of the original sound.
