Very nice walk through of the Anarchy installer. Only two suggestions, a little more explanation of the GPT and MBR partitioning schemes may have been helpful and why each is used, also, showing the resulting desktop running after the install would be nice. Otherwise, a great video. Thanks.

Swap needs to match your RAM if you want system hibernate to work but real men just save their work and shut down when battery gets low

Hibernate is objectively the worst part of win10. 0/10 would not recommend

On real hardware, will the installer pick and install the non-free nvidia graphics driver for nvidia card, or will it just install nouveau by default like most distros seem to do ?
@ambros4703 жыл бұрын
The installer only offers FOSS drivers, so you'll have to install the non-free drivers post installation.
@FirstnameLastName-mr8lk3 жыл бұрын
If you want the proprietary nvidia drivers then get the arch install image, boot it, then run archinstall, I'd say its superior to anarchy but it's slightly more complicated but you can probably do it

how can you make it so it wipes both of my drives and make them accessible to the new install?
@hershmysson3 жыл бұрын
huh, not bad, I just don't see the reason for having their own iso I wish they just had it through curl like archfi does, it's way better

aren't the gnome guys pretty much like... the ultimate sketch though?
@ambros4703 жыл бұрын
I would say that anyone accepting money from Google deserves a lot of scrutiny. But there are a lot of credible allegations tying Deepin to the CCP and collecting personal user data without permission. To my knowledge GNOME isn't quite that egregious.

You can absolutely install btrfs in Arch. Good luck doing that with the usual installer.
@ambros4703 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean to suggest that installing btrfs is difficult, I just meant that if you're not setting up snapshots with btrfs, there's no real point in using it instead of ext4.
@alexanderstuart78013 жыл бұрын
@@ambros470 Nah, I've attempted to install it with arch command line installer. You have to reference the drive differently. I think I successfully did it, but then I got stuck on trying to install a desktop environment. I'm getting there.
@alexanderstuart78013 жыл бұрын
@@ambros470 Got around to trying to install btrfs Arch. Getting some sort of weird "ERROR: Root device mounted successfully, but /sbin/init does not exist. Bailing out, you are on your own. Good luck." All those -mount -o bla bla bla's about drove me crazy, especially since I had to do em like fifteen times. But... I ended up installing it without btrfs. Basic ext4. Seems to work good enough, and it's enough of a step up that I'll be able to jive with it for a while.
@ambros4703 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderstuart7801 If you're installing btrfs from official isos, make sure you also install the package "btrfs-progs" that should get you past that hang.
@alexanderstuart78013 жыл бұрын
@@ambros470 Yep, did it already. Btrfs-progs installed at pacstrap. I've successfully installed Arch using ext4 (command line installer) using EFISTUB. But when I use btrfs, it seems that my boot can't find one of my hard drives. I suspect I'm doing something wrong at the mount -o bla bla bla portion, or perhaps it's on the EFISTUB side. Next time I have a couple days, I'm going to attempt it again, with GRUB, on a laptop, and see if it's successful, then go back to EFISTUB.

why not archinstall?
@ambros4703 жыл бұрын
I referenced the archinstall package at the beginning of the video. I think it's a great tool. But for the linux newbie, I think anarchy is a more accessible option.
@Battler6243 жыл бұрын
@@ambros470 considering I am a total Linux newbie I think archinstall is easy. issues is that It kept failing formatting drive and only sometimes finished installation And for some odd fuckin reason using systemd boot gives me a windows boot manager entry in bios but grub doesnt
