hey great points. I have the rg505 and I love it's potential to play android games including pokemmo as well as retro games. I hope the game streaming mapping gets resolved. And another small point, the rg505 has an extra physical "home" button that only can open the anbernic emulator frontend. You can disable this with root apps and try to remap but it's a huge pain in the ass! I bought it for the oled screen and the start select buttons. great device overall

My device does not play or recognize SNES ROMs with the .sfc tag. Only .smc. Some games I can't find with the .smc tag.

Their biggest problem is ... That POS microsd they package in with their devices. Second problem: reliance on others for their OS. This probably leads to your issue regarding buttons being configured at a sub optimal level. Good take though. I may look at the 503 505 or 405 if one gets sent... Tbh im a bit anbernic'd out right now. 😅

Completely agree with you! The SD card is trash and I’ve always wondered why Anbernic doesn’t upgrade their own Os, especially if they know their customers are upgrading. Honestly, I’ve been on the hunt for an Anbernic horizontal handheld but there’s so many, idk which one to go with.

@@ChronikSpartan I think it's left out because they have cracked apps preinstalled plus they like to skim on the RAM. Google Store needs a lot of processing power in the background just like Windows; it is memory hog. I'm also uncertain that the Android images are official.

I buy these devices to play retro games. If I want to play my Xbox series x, I’ll play my series x. Game streaming still really isn’t that good anyways. But in the end, that’s why I got the 353m and not the 405m. I want a linux based system that plays n64 and below. I also wanted the higher ppi on the 353m screen. Plus the d pad at the top is more to my style. The biggest thing though is I really don’t understand why they didn’t make the 405m able to dual boot OSs like basically all their other devices.

20 minutes work if I had the source code for these devices, it's just mapping the digital buttons to output 0 to MAX on the trigger axes they would normally map to on an xbox controller.

I Have a anbernic 353v. Works great but after using for few days, touchscreen became unresponsive especially on the Android os. Sometimes it works but most of the time it isn't. Sometimes it's ghost touching. I've already found many people on the internet forums with the same problem and they haven't resolve the issue. really disappointing since I like it's form factor.

I only buy Anbernic devices to play retro games. When I go over to the Android side, it's to play retro games, but better, such as Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast games. What we also need to focus on is how horrible Anbernic batteries are. My fully charged RG552 will sit for a week completely powered off and when I turn it on I got like 50% battery. How is this possible? But it's a known issue on reddit. My RG351V can't charge past 75% no matter how long it stays on the charger.

Yeah that's a really good point. The constant drain on Anbernic devices is pretty poor. I remember turning on my DS after 12 months and it still had loads of juice!

Game streaming and android games are an added bonus, and honestly these already existed with GPD XD and just using a smartphone. You claim other youtubers never talk about these 2 aspects, but that's not true, Russ from retro game corps and Taki Udon always dedicate time to review both aspects in great detail. However these handhelds are primarily aimed for retro gaming emulation and of course this side of things will be more prevalent in other youtubers' videos. Most gamers probably don't really care too much about streaming and want a more direct gaming experience without input lag. Android games aren't plenty enough to be relevant and most of those which are relevant usually work hassle free, except for a few, and often developers of these games are to blame for not making these games more controller-friendly.

I made this video a year ago and back then no one did talk about that stuff. I guess someone listened. A person who buys one of these devices doesn't do it to have to buy a GPD XD or use their phone for gaming as well. They buy the device for gaming. If it can do it then it should do it, there's no excuse other than lazy design and engineering. Plus Most gamers aren't all gamers. I respect your perspective but it's just one amongst many.

My biggest disappoinment is nobody talks about defect on every series of anbernic, like bad ic controller on 351 series, faulty screen on 35xx and 353, mushy R1 button on 405M, and high impendance/floor noise almost on every anbernic series when using jack audio. These guys have thousand follower that look up to their video but never tried to mention this. I know you guys play safe with your content, but it's not hurt to warn community about 1 - 2 faulty in every series.

Answering the down vote question... Clickbait, as a fellow creator, I'd let it pass... But the holier than thou crap made me downvote... Like russ literally, every handheld, has a streaming section and talks about if the buttons work with it or not... All the fake humility while pushing the "ooh Noone talks about this except me" crap is bleh... Not a fan when Taki does it, not a fan here either! Also a little research, a word with blackseraph maybe... and you'd not have to go on for minutes talking about digital buttons etc... This was an issue on powkiddy x18s and I brought it up to him and he actually fixed it within days (the man's amazing)... (Also not an anbernic exclusive issue) Anyways here's some real advice... I get it, we need click bait on youtube... But when you do it... At least quickly give the info so ppl who wanna leave can leave without getting too annoyed ... The longer you drag, the better the reveal needs to be... Here it wasn't... You took 3 minutes to get to the point of the video... Thats almost half the runtime... There are devices on the market that are streaming focus. Although to me those are transitions devices that eventually will become something like a stream deck. Maybe like a slight cheaper version of that. Game streaming device are actually expensive to operate. You will need to power house like a PS5 or PC, then you will need a good wifi. Properly better than average, etc. And you still need a device the cost of the switch. To many people that simply don't make a lot of sense. And sure they can play mobile games too. But then a lot of mobile games is really designed for the phone. So adding a controller to it is like sure.... But if I am carrying a extra device for that, why don't I just carry a extra controller? All in all, I think it is better for them to stay retro, and PC portable gaming handheld. But the real problem is they never really do software well. Their software sucks, if not custom firmware available, I wouldn't even buy from them. But that's the advantage they know they can take advantage of..... So what else to say?

Modern games IMHO are mostly story-driven walking sims or first-person shooters that I have zero interest in. The last thing I would do with my 405m or any of my handheld devices would be to stream those. I'll stick with my 4:3 retros.

I don't have any issue with digital triggers where it goes from 0-100 with one press, as majority of the emulators running on these handhelds are going to be 8bit and 16bit systems or even 32bit systems like PSX or N64 that don't need anything analog with triggers. I don't stream on my retro handhelds and I doubt majority of the people do either. If we wanted something for streaming or higher end gaming then we'd just play on a much larger handheld like a Steam Deck, Ally, or even as bad as this sounds a Logitech G Cloud handheld. Besides game streaming is still fucking garbage. For racing games I much prefer throttle and braking with the right analog stick.

If I want game streaming ill just use my phone with an xbox controller attachment. the tiny body with these portable consoles makes it too uncomfortable for me to even play not to mention my internet is not the fastest so latency is a huge issue. If I want PC games ill just play on my PC.

I think the big issue here is with you, not the manufacturer. These are sold and targeted specifically as retro handhelds, not as "all-arounders". I'm more concerned with the quality control issues then trying to make my device more than it is.

I can't help but let the geek in me come out because I keep hearing people call these "handheld emulators". The reason this gripes me is because it doesn't make much sense. The device is not an emulator; it's a device - a console. An emulator cannot be "held" because an emulator is abstract because emulators are software - they aren't physical. These consoles are devices which then have an Operating System installed and then have many, many emulators installed to be used on that OS built for that CPU architecture. A "handheld emulator" is pretty much an oximoron. The points you make here about these is valid to a point. I have a few Anbernic devices myself and I really like them. It's true that we all want them to run GC, PS2, PSP-full-speed, etc., but those emulators will require a faster CPU which Anbernic has been slowly putting more powerful chips in these units. Of course, as you can guess, this increases the cost of these devices to provide such power to emulate those consoles and some of them require fans in them to cool them. While this may be a solution, those handhelds now have a moving part that may need to be replaced at some point and that actually makes me not want one of them. If I need to play those more demanding titles, that's when I'll just wait to get home and play them on a good PC instead where if something goes wrong I won't have to worry about proprietary parts.

You don't get the idea. This console is made for EMULATION. Streaming and all modern features is more like things that are inevitable to implement looking at the configuration of the hardware. And as far as I know, Anbernic dont have a plan to dedicate their efforts to penetrate the streaming device market.

And lack of analog triggers doesnt bother me. I dont usually game stream because I dont enjoy new games, most of them feel not as rewarding as the old retros, but whatever new games that I play, i prefer to play it directly on my pc, as i prefer M/KB. But yeah itd be cool to use my device for more game streaming too.

This is the main reason why I don't buy Anbernic, I got the RG351V which is great for retro emulation for 16bit and below, but I have my Odin with the ANALOG triggers for streaming and everything else, and my RP3+ for something more portable. I stream all my AAA games from my PC using Castor with Moonlight running in a virtual machine, keeps my PC available for everything else, yet part of it is dedicated to streaming. I don't even know if Anbernic knows HOW to do analog triggers, what is amazing to me they've been out the longest? Shouldn't they be on top? Like Powkiddy? Shouldn't they be dominating right now? Agreed! People need to talk more about game streaming.

It's such a shame isn't it. Anbernic would easily be top dog in my opinion if they sorted out the issue. Sony even had analogue face buttons over a decade ago, even with Anbernics current design those buttons could be analogue. Such a shame. Yeah I never understood why game streaming gets such a negative wrap on KZbin, it's clearly going to be a huge part of gaming in the future.

I paid good money for a 4K monitor, decent graphics card and surround sound. I'm not interested in streaming or in any way have a second rate experience while playing modern PC games. I got my little emulation machine for just that, games that doesn't give a better experience on modern hardware.
