Picked one of these up in March and honestly it’s soooo good and just a nostalgia blast. Spent a few days hopping from rom to rom before starting fire red but to anyone that thinks” hey this looks cool” pull the trigger. Even as a casual without garlic OS this little thing will fill your craving of retro games.

Yeah. It's definitely an improved experience over a few months ago. You really can play right out of the box, or you can choose to try a different experience with a third party OS like Garlic or Batocera. It's a pretty versatile little system!

There's literally 100s of great games between all the old 8 and 16 bit games. I even had an original Gameboy the Christmas it came out. Great games on that too. I honestly did own base wars in between 1985 and 1989! I got it for Christmas one year and my brother wanted Bigfoot (the monster truck game lol... I was really into robot stuff and baseball at the time so, it seemed cool. I remember little, but funny things about it. You can fight at the base when you normally would be out and if you are the runner and you win the fight, you are safe (I think that's how it worked...) lol! Also the pitcher literally has a "cannon" for an arm and the robots are friggin awesome. Fairly easy to hit homeruns so the games can be high scoring but man, I did love that game. It was a gem for sure that most people never even knew about. Kind of like Crystalis on the NES and Chrono Trigger (at launch) on the SNES.

Grabbed one of these and a Miyoo mini to start tinkering. I can honestly say that I think the RG35XX is the better bang for your buck. Somehow the screen with GarlicOS looks better than the Mini with OnionOS and I like that I can use my second OnionOS SD card inside my Anbernic device

I rented Base Wars from the local video store when I was a kid. I remember liking the robot concept, but not enjoying the game as much as Baseball Stars. My dad and brother would play BS against the computer and take turns at bat/pitching. Good times

Oh yes, I remember! But I didn’t have a PS1 as a kid. I had an N64. So, the D-pad for 3D games always threw me off when I’d go to a friends house. I was terrible. 😂 However, the PS1 did get a controller revision later in its lifecycle which added analog sticks. 🙂

I got the RG35xx last week and installed Garlic OS which makes it much better. However, I wish that it was taller. With my big hands, it feels somewhat awkward to hold. I have concluded that handhelds, especially vertical ones, are hard to control accurately. I think that a horizontal portable game system would work much better.

I kind of agree with that. I love the device, but it's too short for there to be a place to comfortably rest your hands. I find that resting my hands on my desk or even my lap helps a lot. I'm looking into getting a Switch-style retro handheld as well so I have one of each form factor.

i own this device for 2 weeks now, already installed Garlic OS cause the stock one is just not for me. it is really amazing for it's price, but i wish they at least include bluetooth connectivity so we can use wireless controllers and headsets, wouldn't mind if it's a bit more expensive if it have bluetooth

They definitely stripped some things out of this model to get the price down. I have seen some people use the USB-C port and a wireless adapter to trick the RG35XX into thinking there's a wired controller plugged in. But then you're looking at spending more money on a device that was made for a budget. Several of Anbernic's more expensive models do support Bluetooth controllers. You can see them here: anbernic.com?sca_ref=3612715.SD2Gc1p6dr I wouldn't be surprised if they made something like a RG35XX+ in the future that had some more features, especially if they get enough feedback from people like yourself. I saw a review on Amazon saying the factory reset button that erases all your progress is right next to the power button. And that you can easily and frequently accidentally erase your saved game status . Is that true ? Just curious before I purchase one

Great question. No, that is not true. There is a reset button next to the power button, but it’s inset and not easy to accidentally press. Also, it would erase any unsaved progress because it reboots the system if a game freezes. I’ve never used it though, even accidentally. Of course, in the menu you can overwrite your save states with new ones, and I’ve done that before thinking I was loading one instead of saving. But that was entirely my fault, and I learned from it and didn’t do it again. Haha. I’m not sure what the Amazon reviewer meant by those things. I’ve had a really great experience.

I don't know what percentage, but some of the ROMs are the Chinese or Japanese versions of the game. That is true. I know Final Fantasy 7 was like that. A lot of them are in English though, and you can add the English versions of the ROMs to the sd card too. Setting your language to English in the system settings won't change the ROMs to English. They're just copies of the original cartridges, which shipped with the language of the region they were being sold in.

Hi . Has it happened to you that when I played with it , I shut it down, leave it for a day or two ( on 54%) and then when I'm trying to switch it back on - it doesn't switch on unless I plug it into a charger for 15min. Thanks for the response.

Yes. It has happened to me. If you just click the power button it goes into sleep mode. It's ok to leave it there for an hour, but if you're going to leave it for a couple of days the battery will be completely drained. You have to hold down the power button for a couple of seconds until it says "Goodbye" to shut it all the way down. Then you should be good when you come back to it after a day or two.

If you’re shutting it down completely, then I’m not entirely sure. It should hold its charge. I mean you might lose 5% in a couple of days or something, but you shouldn’t have to plug it in. There’s a chance you got a bad battery. If you purchased it from Amazon within the last 30 days you can request a full replacement device. Then just trade out the sd cards so you keep your save files, and return your original device.

Personally, I like the solid gray. You can see the glue they used to stick things to the casing in the transparent colors, and I don’t think it looks good. But if the glue doesn’t bother you, go for whichever color you like best. The device is fun no matter what! 🙂

Hi, I have a few questions, I just got my RG35XX at the moment. I want to replace the SD Card with a branded one, i don't need Garlic OS just the default system. But I don't know how to copy the partition file, Partition F which is the system on the default card can't be opened. How do you copy the file? can you make a tutorial about this?

I haven't had a problem with the included SD card, but the general consensus online seems to be that they are unreliable and you should replace them with something like this: amzn.to/40xPd2q It will take me a few days to produce, but that's a good idea for a video! That happens to me sometimes. I don’t know why. If you double press the menu button quickly, it’ll exit. If that still doesn’t work, press the round “R” button by the power button. That will reboot the device.

That’s a good question. I don’t have an android to test it on, but since it’s just a folders and files system, I would say there is a very high chance that you could do that. There’s a ROMs folder that has different Nintendo system folders in it. So just find the right console folder and paste your ROMs there. Raspberry Pi prices have skyrocketed the last couple of years. Plus, you have to build and install everything yourself. This is ready to go right out of the box. I think it depends on what you want or need to get out of the system, but for the ease of use I think the RG35XX is the better bang for your buck for 8 and 16 bit gaming. Also, I understand what you're saying. This really tries to mimic that GameBoy look and feel, and I think it's pulling at nostalgia to help increase sales. I haven’t tested either of those, but you can try replacing the roms with new ones from a different source. That might work.

Nice! That wasn't an option a few months ago, but now you can do that pretty cheap. I've even heard you can buy the RG35XX with it already installed on the card if you get it from the right place. That's pretty awesome. I've had mine for 5 months now and I still love it!

@BoKnowsGaming the save states are nice i m just getting used to it The only problems I have is with retroarch which i am not used to using You should do a video on how to use the cheat finding feature im having difficulty figuring out what line of code i am looking at. I usally use cheats to fix any issues with any softlocks in my randomized roms. The rgbxx is awesome im getting uses to buttons again i have gamed on my phone so long that i do frame perfect maneuvers with my touch screen imputs

@BoKnowsGaming the menu button short cuts can cause problems The speed up and slow down settings dont like to be modified and just revert to default unless you change it while you have a rom loaded Cant think of any other problems tbh

Hello friend! My rg35xx has some ps1 games that are having a problem with the controls not working, it does not accept any commands from the buttons, do you know how you can solve this? He has the stock system

Hmmm... Interesting. 🧐 I haven't had that problem. From the Home Screen, go all the way to the right to "Settings", then down four to "IO Test", and make sure it recognizes all your buttons correctly. Also, in a PS1 game, hit the menu button and scroll down to BIOS. There are two options on the stock card. I've used HLE for all of mine and it's been working fine. If the ROMS you're using are ones you installed yourself, then they may not be working correctly and I'd try getting them from a different source. Thanks for watching, and I hope that helps!

the RG35XX is not able to switch the disc.... FE: the FF7, it has 4 discs, when you at a certain stage, swap the disc is not applicable for RG35XX... So these "big file size" RPGs are not actually playable

They’re playable. You can find tutorials on KZbin to show you how. It’s not as easy as single disc games, but it works if it’s set up right. Hope you get it figured out. FF7 is a great game!

It does include a few Wrestlemania games and a couple of other wrestling games. But it does not come with Wrestlefest specifically. If you had the ROM for Wrestlefest, it might work because it does run some MAME games.

With all this technology you think steam and asus rog will make a crappy 90s dpad style on their handhelds i played a lot of nes in late 80s and snes,genesis in 90s no offence but nes snes dpad sucks i have my rg35xx and theres a lot of good fighting games in it but cant play it because of the dpad other type of games it was fine

I don’t think Steam or Asus are interested in the retro handheld space. They’re trying to push things forward. The D-Pad may not be good for fighters (although I’ve really been enjoying Tekken 3 the last few days), but it’s fantastic for platformers! Personally, I love the one on the RG35XX. 🙂
