CORRECTION: As numerous commenters have pointed out, at 0:19 we say "...the ANC were on track to lose their parliamentary majority for the first time since independence", when we meant to say "since apartheid". We've since edited this video to cut out "since independence", which hopefully works a bit better, but we nonetheless apologise for the error, and hope you still enjoyed the vid!

I'm a white South African who has just voted for the first time. I voted DA, as an anti-ANC vote more than any deep love for the DA. One thing that wasn't mentioned in this video, but I believe was in other videos, the DA is in charge of my home province, the Western Cape which includes Cape Town. The Western Cape is by far the healthiest province, lowest unemployment, fastest growing economy and many individuals and companies from Joburg and other major cities are moving down here. I have said for the better part of a year that a DA-ANC coalition is far from the worst option as the ANC's policies are broadly popular, their big issue is corruption, so ANC policy with DA oversight and cabinet ministers in certain areas, such as police and state-owned enterprises such as Eskom, could work out really well for SA.

FK no. ANC is time is up, they must be forgotten, as all they do is try remain relevant by appealing to the past for relevancy. And have since not allowed many of the people to move past the past. The ANC's death means SA can finally move forward, but unfortunately many former voters just moved to even worse parties like MK and EFF. And they wonder why life continues to get worse for them. Its just convenient to blame the past and white people to deflect from the fact that the very parties people vote for, are the ones responsible for their poor disposition.

As a South African who Participated in the election, we have a system that is deeply connected to the racial divide of the pre 94 era. The loyalty people in my country have to the liberating party is extremely understated. This combined with a lack of faith in politics amongst our youth, is the reason why the ANC still gains the largest vote share. People here are either too scared of change or have don’t believe that it is possible, but with a voter turnout of 59% it’s hard to not put the blame on us as the citizens.

Great to see it get punished for corruption & incompetence, it's clearly not doing a good job for SA as is. South Africa's problem is the current president & his cronies have sucked out all money aimed at the reconstruction of economic equality & reversal prejudicial legacies. This has allowed them a net worth ~ > $100B when combined with the Zuma coalition The problem with the public service is blatant "defunding" a term coined by right wing Yankees no different from South Africans in ideology. Both electricity & water supply & drainage if privatised like in the UK would allow the the current brass first dibs on purchasing those monopolies & then racketeering the country. This has been drawn in detail from the playbook of Margaret Thatcher herself for brilliantly destroying the UK energy public sector into a private, profiteering racket. Too bad she wasn't alive to see her coup des grâce during the covid energy crisis. I'm sure she rolled over in her grave to celebrate her total victory. So as you see dear neo-liberal writers, some of us can dish out better than you can serve. Like an any neo-liberal state, the state is a capitalist kleptocracy. The ANC has from the stepping down of Mandela in 1999 been a kleptocracy. It is regrettable that Thabo Mbeki, his selected successor who was educated & lived in the UK for almost 30 years let him down. The current President wanted the throne as successor to Mandela but was sidelined as Mandela knew his treachery. He thus took the route of securing minority shares from the various mines owned by MNCs as an equity buy-in secured by government guarantees. I specialised in this branch of Finance within mergers & acquisitions. A small black elite had become billionaires overnight through the sale of equity portions of Publicly Listed Companies & Private Companies conducting business/contracting to Government. Special Bank licenses were purchased by the state via a state shell corporation to provide bank guarantees as securities for each buyout. That is only a single body of corruption called BEE an acronym for Black Economic Empowerment. If get a 100 likes. I will do a video on corruption. My pledge

@@jasonhaven7170 He wasn't referring to the change of voters, he's talking about the voters still supporting ANC. It's not the only factor, but it's a big reasoning behind ANC support. Many people that came from apartheid understand "The evil of the white man", so they vote ANC in fear of a white government. But the new generation hasn't grown up with hate or understanding of the malice of apartheid. So when these older people die, the ANC will lose a bulwark of their support.

The combination of the _whole_ of the white, Indian and Coloured (self-identified by this string of phonemes) populations would give you something like 18 or 19 percent of the population, so in that sense the DA might be a "European-aligned" party, if not ethnically "white" - depending on how you define that. Certainly these not-black-enough groups would make up a big chunk of DA support, but members of all these communities are supporters of the full range of political opinion. (A lot of local Communists, for instance, are white, and would vote ANC, which includes the Communists). Being generous, let's say they contribute to 15% of that 21%. Then there's still 6% to explain. And these have to be black, don't they? The DA is more like an urbanized middle class party (where MK has turned out to be a rural-traditional party if you look at how the voting has gone. Yes, black, too, but the more important distinction is that a lot of the support is more rural, and almost entirely Zulu. It could change its name to the Zulu Empire Party without being too inaccurate.) The DA had a black leader for quite a long time (unless you want to exclude him from that because his wife is white). There was conflict, he left, and then they just picked the guy they felt was the best woman for the job. I'm pretty sure they'd rather still have a black leader if they could (because they'd get a few votes just on that account) but John Steenhuisen has earned his place, so he gets to be the leader. Not the worst basis on which to choose a leader, I think? (No, you wouldn't lose any white votes by having a black leader. Not in practice, anyway. Those voters would vote for a one of the parties willing to enter into coalitions with the DA, so you'd indirectly get their votes back if you lost them.)

The entre history of South Africa going back as far as we can remember is shit. Wars, multiple apartheids, genocides, constant crimes against humanity. Those who travel through South Africa marveling at the beauty of the landscape have no idea how blood soaked the soil is. There was only one bright period in all of South Africa's history and that was the period from 1994 to 2008 when the old ANC under the Three Ms--Mandela, Mbeki, and Motlantle--ran the place. It was the one and only time the country was coming right. Then it was all ruined.

The ANC had to go, but anyone voting MK thinking they will be different is delusional. Zuma imo is the sole reason south africa is in the position it's in today, most people have no idea how damaging state capture was and the scale of the looting the Guptas and Zuma's cronies did. Eskom devolved to its current state under Zuma's "leadership". Also, I'd describe MK as more right-wing than leftist, they're explicitly Zulu ethnonationalist and want a smaller govt with more regional authority for the provinces. The EFF is the only real leftist major party. The MK's policy manifesto is insane lol its literally just vibes, probably scrawled two days before the election. Fingers crossed the coalition is with the EFF or the DA, MK is just a Zulu ethnonationalist populist party following an unfortunately charismatic leader in the style of Trump and MAGA. A DA-ANC coalition would pull the govt to the right, and probably be amenable to foreign investors but that would do nothing to address the inequality in the country (the worst in the world) and tbh their naive neoliberal optimism and unwillingness to have the uncomfortable but necessary conversations about race and economic disparity post-apartheid will probably make it worse. They have an obvious issue with admitting that the white minority made off like bandits and that apartheid was more wide-reaching than black people not being allowed to use certain toilets. An EFF-ANC coalition would pull the govt to the left and maybe actually help the avg Saffa but the EFF is still a new party and Malema has unrealistic demands. Also they're obviously inexperienced in governance. Though the same goes for the DA, they are unproven in national governance. I have huge doubts that their model of governance can scale up to the nation level. But we'll see.

Apartheid is there, people won't just forget about it. Though, I honestly think that we really need a saviour. We need to boost our economy, create jobs, DA is the right party for that. Unfortunately, the black man cannot trust the white man, not because the white man is untrustworthy, the new world makes it impossible for the white man to be cheeky. But because the black man has lost his ability to trust. He would rather die of famine and lack of jobs than trust the white man. That's that! KZN as a whole is a Right Wing state. Not just the MK. The EFF, on the other hand is just anti-white or everyone who is not black. That is an issue. I am only rubbing my hands in anticipation on how the MK stunt will work out because it could be better or worse. That entirely depends on the tactics of the Devil that is Zuma. The DA could do wonders in SA, I wish my fellow Zulus in my homeland could see that. We would deal with their racist crap when we get there Because we know that they are racist. Those who are loyal to the ANC... I don't blame them. But I say, a toxic family member does not deserve forgiveness just because they are family.
