ATTETION: Due to a Copyright Claim I have had to trim out a section of this video. At around 47:50 when it fades to black the next entry should be 64DD and sound like this: "Animal Crossing was originally going to be exclusively for the 64DD. Which if you don't know, is a Disk Drive (DD) add on for the N64, it was going to be used to make much bigger games to keep up with competition or just add more content to existing games, like for example Ocarina of Times infamous, “Ura Zelda”. Anyways, in an interview from 2016, Eguchi, producer of Animal Crossing, details what the original plans for animal crossing were.“The idea for “Animal Crossing” began with the idea that we could use the 64DD to write a massive amount of save data to make a kind of game that hadn't ever been made yet. At that point, the theme that I considered was “playing with others”. The beginning of that design was that you’d have this RPG-like world in this massive field, and multiple people would enter, and your play would affect the other players.” According to Eguchi, he wanted to play videogames with his kids, but since he was a full time developer he often would arrive home late and they would be asleep. “I couldn’t play games with my kids, even though I knew it would be fun. From the beginning my idea was that, if this is the way it’s going to be, maybe there’s something we could do where someone in a similar environment to me could come home late and play, which would somehow overlap with what the kids had done.” (..) “For instance, say the kids were adventuring in a dungeon during the day and made it part way through, but then something happens where they can’t move any further. Then, some trace of that status can be left and then when dad came home at night he could use the information the kids left as a hint and clear the dungeon, and proceed further. I wondered how that kind of relay-type-play would be.” From here the idea of animals being in the game came from the idea that instead of the player being all powerful, like most RPGs. The player would have to use the power of Animals to progress. This interview goes into a lot more detail about the humble origins of Animal Crossing and all in all the original game concept is a lot different to what we ended up getting, I would love to see a fan or even Nintendo themselves make an RPG like this in the future but I doubt that will ever happen."

I was surprised none of the letters from Mom were on the iceberg. There is some very weird stuff on those, especially in the first game. In one letter, she says "you've chosen to live with animals, which I'll never understand... [...] Did you meet anyone special in that town? I want some grandkids!" This raises so many questions. Is your mom racist against animals? What about them doesn't she like? Is it possible for humans and animals to have children? If so, why would your mom want you to do that if she doesn't like animals? Are there different villages for animals and humans? Is it uncommon for them to cross paths? What is the animal to human ratio in this world? And that's just from one letter... There's so much other weird stuff in there.

Resetti actually made me have a breakdown when I was little. Not while he was screaming at me, but because I had forgotten to save so many times that he threatened to do something the next time I reset. One time my dad wanted me to stop playing and he threatened to turn the power off and I started screaming, begging him to let me save first so Resetti wouldn't come after me. (As it turns out, what actually happens is that his brother comes because Resetti got sick from his high blood pressure XD)

One interesting thing I like to bring up is what fans dub "The End of the World" in Animal Crossing NGC. It happens on December 31, 2030, when the clock strikes midnight and ticks over to January 1, 2031. When the player saves and reloads their town after this event, they are suddenly taken back to January 1, 2030. This happens because the Gamecube's internal calendar only goes as far as December 2030 and Animal Crossing just loops the year 2030 forever. So that means players only have about 10 more years of Animal Crossing NGC (as of typing this, at least) before it truly ends and the calendar misaligns with the real world calendar.

Watching this just makes me realize how much more is left out in new horizons. Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing game in graphics and it’s cool how it’s so customizable yet I think it’s missing the lore? Like I feel like new horizons is just the tip of the ice burg for animal crossing and that’s why it feels off. It’s a great game yet you miss those fun quirky things that make it animal crossing. Like other NPCs, more places to go to, more complex dialogue. The gyroids, all the furniture sets, old music, Idk It just doesn’t have the same feeling I get when I play new leaf or wild world etc. not complaining because I love playing new horizons yet lately I’ve been missing that old classic animal crossing feel.

Yeah, even with everything thT's been added since it's still not only missing a _lot_ of content present even from the beginning of the series(kinda dissappinting that the N64/GCN gane has mire going for it), but there's _still_ like, no added variation, character, or, well, content to just the dialogue and setting itself. A good chunk of the Special NPC cast is still missing, and everyone from Villager to Special still lack kind of horri ky in the dialogue department in general. Edit: Okay, I don't know what my phone replaced with "horri ky" because I'm way too tired for coherent thought, so I'll come back to fox tupos and dumb mistakes later

Pretty sure Aika village is an allegory for Depression. Could be wrong, but I think your observations about panic and stress are on point. The houses represent the slow deterioration of Aika’s mental health. Getting darker, more cluttered, and more disorganized as time goes on (Aika growing up). This was cemented, to me, by the final unblocked room, where Aika sits, trapped in a box and judged at by her peers. A clear allegory for social anxiety and pressure.

Interesting that the 7pm music in new leaf has a “negative aura”, I’ve ever seen that track as sad, I find it very serene and a pleasant song to wind down from your day. It was one of my favorite tracks from the the whole game and I can barely stand listening to any music that sounds sad.

What's weird about the "no one can hear you screaming in your basement" line is that it's NOT just the smug villagers saying it. It's also the peppy villagers (as shown with chrissy saying it, slightly differently). So for some reason they added the line to at least TWO different villager types. And in new horizons no less! Where most of the dialogue is scrubbed super clean and positive.

Aika village had actually an update in 2019. Before the update the first Aika used to say 'I love my mommy' and the second and third one had distorted versions of that. I think the last Aika said something else, but I can't remember what it was. Please keep in mind that it's been 5 years that I've been to Aikavillage and the Japanese part was just from what I've heard, since I don't speak Japanese. Moving on, the room with the wheels of fortune used to be something else but I can't remember what it was. There are still walkthroughs of Aikavillage before the update in case you're interested. People say that the room was added to show that Aika was schizophrenic. Talking about theories, a popular theorie back then was that Aika was neglected by her parents, some even said physically abused by her mother too (The red and pink flowers in the beginning of the city, are her parents. When you go all the way to the north east, you'd find one white rose, which was Aika's importance in her family.). For her birthday she got a posessed doll from them and she took it everywhere she went (She also got a lot of other presents, which are shown in the maze, but she only cared about the doll really). Aika didn't have any friends at school, so she saw the doll as her friend. The doll convinced her to kill her dog (either with an axe or buried it alive, I'm not sure anymore). Her parents bought a new dog and she killed it too (I think there were 6 dogs in total? When you dug up in the graveyards, you'd find the dogcages). Aika got neglected more and more (showing the grass and dead trees in the city). One day the doll told her to kill her parents (probably one of them in their sleep, explaining the bed with the outline) and she did. After realizing what she had done, she wanted to get rid of the doll but it seemed to follow Aika everywhere she went. She even buried the doll on the beach but she couldn't get rid of it. Since she couldn't get rid of the possessed doll, Aika drowned herself. The last house is abandoned, with only the doll left behind. The creator of Aikavillage actually had an interview in a Japanese magazine. They asked him what the actual meaning of it was and he confirmed that it doesn't have a meaning. Aikavillage is the most visited dream city in Animal Crossing New Leaf. It's mystery made it so popular in the community. I think the fact that there is no confirmed meaning made it even more popular. There might be some things that I missed or haven't mentioned. Keep in mind that it's been 4 or 5 years since I really looked into Aikavillage. To the people still reading this, thank you for reading this. What I think went down in Aika Village: On Aika's birthday, Aika got a doll from her parents. It seemed harmless. But over time, it started acting weirder. Eventually, it killed the dog and hid the body somehow, giving us our first casualty. When the family members started getting suspicious, the doll killed everyone but Aika. I think the room with all the heads in it looking at Aika and the doll could possibly represent a courtroom: the doll kept Aika alive to frame her. This could also possibly be a hearing. Either way, when the event is finished, Aika goes to the seashore, takes off her shoes...and...well...ends her own misery by drowning herself. The doll has successfully ruined Aika Village and tainted its image forever. I think the doll managed to pull this off by _possessing_ Aika, making her kill her family and hide the bodies. This would present very strong evidence against Aika, such as her DNA on bloody clothing or her fingerprints on the weapon. (Maybe the axe we saw the doll carrying?)

Here’a my Aika theory: In one of the houses, you see the doll next to a crib. The story is about aika and jealousy. She was happy by herself and her family, then her baby sister is born. The doll represents aika, and her being jealous and lonely. After her sister is born, she doesn’t get as much attention. Her and the ace represents her hate against her sister. The dinner table represents her feeling pressured to deal with her loneliness. She wants to get her attention back, this is when she breaks. Her sitting on a stool looking at the shark with a statue behind her represents her being tempted to kill her sister. The statue represents her dark side battling with her to kill her sister. The tank is the ocean, where she ends up killing her sister, which she after feels guilty for. Then she drowns herself. The drawing scribbled out are her hating her family. (I think she may have also killed her family)

I have some more things that I’ve heard of: The human villager from the animal crossing movie. Many people thinks he might be Zipper. The trash yard in animal crossing GameCube(?) It was emptied some time in the day, and many people wonder who the trash man is. There was some speculations about why the mom was the one writing letters to the player, and not the dad. The dad only wrote a letter on Father’s Day. Also, the new Aika village for ACNH. There you can find frog villagers, and other things. We also have the infamous Gulliver spaceship, that you can use a slingshot to bring down in the earlier games. The spaceship looks a lot like the spaceship in the 3:33 AM broadcast. In the Japanese version of ac GameCube, you could wake up Tom book in his store, by banging on the shop with a shovel. This led to a sleepy Tom nook letting you in the store in his pajamas. :) And at last, the glitches that you could meet in the earlier games. There was a certain glitch town, that had many glitched items/buildings in the water. There was a glitch or a hack, that could make you go outside the black borders of the game. (These are mostly the things that I could gather from the top of my head, so not all of them are accurate. But, there are many more theories out there! Going off your Aika village theory, I think maybe the parents were getting a divorce? With the room depicting the Adam and Eve sin thing, one of the parents could have done something wrong, like cheat. So the household was probably filled with arguing, showing the slow deteriorating and trashy look of each house. The big decision the girl had to make was probably picking which parent to go with. The mom might have been pressuring her to pick her because the father might have been the one to cheated. Maybe she ended her life because she couldn't pick because she loved them both? Not a solid theory but it's what I came up with haha, possibly a little right

I have Wild World, City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons. I have less memories of Wild World than the rest, though. I spent most of my time on the Wii playing City Folk. It’s how I learned to read. Gulliver was the alien in the UFO in WW and CF! He also appears as an alien in the movie! I believe he was repurposed in NL to be a washed up sailor. Timeless character.

Okay so I did some digging on Serena and I can explain her being a goddess now. Animal Crossing borrows at times from Shinto religion, this is rather common for Nintendo games actually, Legend of Zelda games are a lot of fun to play for us globally, but you'd be surprised how spiritual they are at times. Anyhow, her Japanese name is Megami-sama, which is literally "goddess". Here's the caveat: gods and goddesses in Shinto belief are very much closer to nature spirits, that inhabit certain places or objects. In Shinto belief you often pray to your local gods, in fact every Shinto shrine - AFAIK - is dedicated to their of shinto god. But the thing is they really aren't gods as we know them. They aren't like Zeus or like the christian God, they are just the spirits that reside in the local places, and often protect the population from misfortune and the like. So the gist is you pay to build the fountain, which either gives the cities kami a female form (I don't know if gods without forms are gendered in Shinto) or creates / brings in a new kami of it's own, and the goddess reveals herself to you as she apparently isn't used to people bringing gifts (small coin donations are also very common in Shinto belief) Hope that was an interesting read!!

29:01 My guess is that the shark is meant to be taken figuratively, like a loan shark or other cut-throat business person. The colorful wheels are probably meant to symbolize roulette wheels, or some other form of gambling. It's possible that someone in Aiko's family gambled away a bunch of money and had to take out a loan from unsavory people, thus causing tension in the family. Also, the room with the dolls mentioned at 30:12 could be the Last Supper, with the red doll shown as Judas. Perhaps Aiko betrayed her family & "fed" them to the dogs/sharks/unsavory people?

Just gonna put this here : Slider's real name, "Totakeke," derives from Kazumi Totaka, a song composer for Nintendo. Totaka's Song appears in Animal Crossing as a hidden tune, in which the player must approach K.K. Slider when he plays music on Saturday night and request that he play the song K.K. Song, which is a version of Totaka's Song.
