“Afterwards she only ate kids' cereal And couldn't sleep unless it was in her mother's bed” - from the Manuscript. I think this song, and this particular part of the song, is Taylor Swift at her best and probably why I love her music and writing so much. It is simple language that creates such a profound image that can be so relatable and understandable. It is that classic, “show don’t tell”. This line captures the pain that she went through after this relationship by showing the listener how she regressed to childhood comforts to cope with the stress and heartbreak. This line shows how devastated she was, so much more than simply expressing heartbreak. Even if you as the listener haven’t experienced the kind of relationship she has, that feeling of regression and seeking comfort in this way is so universal and relatable.

Absolutely love your insights and your positive vibes. Quick thought on the line from Chloe or Sam et al: "I crashed into you like so many wrecks do." Rather than referencing the Harry of it all, for me this harkens back once again to a line from Maroon -- "The burgundy on my T-shirt when you splashed your wine into me." It's a description of someone (Matty) "crashing" into her, but she was too young to know what to do (the blood rushed into her cheeks). Given the overall themes of TTPD, this makes much more sense than revisiting HS tropes.

Personally, when I hear the sad songs that you say you have a hard time listening to, it's like a cathartic release. To see someone else able to process those emotions that threatened to flatten me and come out on the other side of it, I feel this hope and comfort that is just all-enveloping even when it's the hardest feeling I've ever had to deal with. You've said it a few times that it's unreal that someone like Taylor can write the most relatable things while being so famous, it's that relatability that means everything when you're really going through it and can't relate your heartbreak woes to anyone else, but Taylor gets it all too well. It's a validation. Listening to them reassures me that it's okay to feel that way and that my feelings aren't 'bad' or something to be afraid of. It's telling me I wasn't alone in feeling that way and that I'm still not alone. I definitely can't say I don't get sad when I listen to them but there's less of an edge to that particular blade to the heart than just feeling those sad emotions without having the music. I feel like that's why you see people going through a breakup seeking out and listening to those tracks. Yes they might be bawling while they listen, but there can be a healing aspect to it too. In terms of like having those same songs on a playlist when you're on the other side of the pain? I feel like there's a certain kind of grounding effect for me lol It keeps me in line and reminded, when I start playing with fire and I shouldn't be, what could be waiting on the other side of all that (ashes >_>). I think everyone takes something different from music of all sorts though. I still think it's totally valid to hear something like loml and decide wow that is so gut-wrenchingly sad, I don't think I can listen to that over and over.
@charm98833 ай бұрын
“The story isn’t mine anymore,” is one of my favorite lines. I feel like it captures Taylor’s creative process and storytelling so well-turning her heartache into stories that we look through and turn into our own because each song she puts out speaks to something within each of us, and I find that really beautiful and poetic.

For me it‘s definitely “cause love’s never lost when perspective is earned” because it emphasizes the hope that everything will turn out happily even though you know that the relationship is over. Especially in the context of the song it seams like the last straw you hold on to, even when the person is not right or doesn’t put that much effort in the relationship or doesn’t believe in it the way you do 🥲 and by the way thank you so much for your effort to create videos like this 🥹 I love hearing and thinking about different perspectives or interpretations of songs, especially because not only you but the whole community has soooo interesting and thoughtful thoughts and it’s such a safe space for everyone 🫶🏻

It’s really hard to pick one lyric but there’s a few that really hit home for me from “Peter”, most specifically in the bridge. “And I won’t confess that I waited But I let the lamp burn” “Lost to the lost boys chapter of your life” “But the women who sits by the window has turned out the lights” This line from the chorus as well - “You said you were gonna grow up Then you were gonna come find me” My reasoning for this is I have recently made a different connection to this song. Not one about a romantic relationship, but rather about my biological father who I always held out hope for and reassured people he’d come back around. After about a year and a half of my life, he was never really around except here and there. I’d get my hopes up. And then be crushed. But always thought he’d be back. I bought his ticket to my high school graduation and he stood me up. My final straw was when he started dating someone 4 years younger than me (she was 22, he was 46) & I brought my concerns to his attention and his only response was “good point”. He never grew up and out of his immature ways/lifestyle. He has 5 kids with 3 different women and has nothing to do with any of us (& we’re all adults now except one who is 15) Wow, this turned into a mini therapy sesh so I apologize. 🤦🏽♀️ but yeah, for some reason one day I randomly made the connection between the lyrics in “Peter” & my feelings towards my sperm donor & it has forever changed that song for me.

from Robin: 'But now we'll curtail your curiosity, in sweetness'... to me the whole song is like a letter to her younger self and it's so soul soothing to me, the moment of 'you have no room in your dreams for regrets' too - feels like an add on to Never Grow Up except now she has the perspective of knowing all the pain that's ahead but that she wouldn't change a thing of the experience so she won't warn her younger self and stop it happening. It can be frustrating when you're young for people to not tell you everything but it is in sweetness - it's out of the love they have for you, the desire to keep that innocence as long as possible.

I find absolutely fascinating how when you started talking about how did it end, the lights got darker and when you started talking about So high school, it was all rainbow suddenly! 😄❤️ how the universe works to align for Taylor and you is truly amazing

"I look in people's window. In case you're at their table, what if your eyes look up and met mine one more time." Is just so sad and beautiful and paints such an imagine of longing for that connection - has to be my fav!

'Promises ocean deep, but never to keep' was the first lyric from the anthology that really stuck with me when i was still really overwhelmed with the number of songs in the beginning and that made me feel excited to dive deep into the album in time❤️🔥

Ally, unbeknownst to you, you have been such a big part of my Eras Tour journey! Watching your videos last year when I had no hope or prospect of going, watching them with a ticket secured, watching them while making my midnights bodysuit and karma jacket, and now watching to fight the Eras Tour blues 💕 you have been a part of this experience and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making Taylore videos, sharing your knowledge, rocking out imaginary drums and guitar together 🫶 You’re truly special, thank you for creating this safe internet space for all swifties ❤

"The goddess of timing Once found us beguiling She said she was trying Peter was she lying My ribs get the feeling she did" There is something about this lyric that's extremely vulnerable because it shows that we are not the ones in control; the goddess of timing is. Ahhh, it's so good! I don't know how to explain it!

As someone who once experienced the full wrath of that goddess... My ribs agree with you.

I enjoyed this so much. Thank you Ally for once again breaking down all the songs and helping me see some of the references I missed. So High School is AMAZING and it is exactly what Taylor deserves. Everyone should be rooting for her.

I feel like “Just someone who wants my company” from The Prophecy not in the context of romantic relationships but friendships has been the theme of my life. Every time I make new friends, it feels like I put so much effort and heart into it and it’s not ever really reciprocated the same way. I remember times where I’ve prayed and asked for true friends who will stick around through thick and thin

My favourite lyric from the anthology is "you turned me into an idea of sorts" from Chloe et al. This album and the anthology has been a really relatable and strange album for me. I broke up with my long term partner of 15 years last November because of his mental health issues, then briefly got together with my best male friend who said he'd loved me for the last 7 years then bolted as soon as it became real. I've now started a new and healthier relationship. It's been a whirlwind and this album was ridiculously close to how I'd been feeling- I am continually amazed by how she can put these complex feelings into such perfect words. I don't usually enter give aways but this album has been so important to me I had to share my experience with someone.

I love 'I'm the life you chose and all this terrible danger' and I can't help but think it is a nod to how Travis just accepts and deals so perfectly with the stalkers, fans and invasion.

it’s so so sweet of you to be doing a giveaway! you are by far my favorite youtuber and i when you make these videos. i learn so much from them :) my favorite lyric comes from peter when she says “we both did the best we could under the same moon, in different galaxies” it’s such a brilliant way to phrase that situation and i’ll never get over it.
