For me folklore is a white wine and evermore is red wine Folklore is a getaway trip to some coastal town you visited in your childhood and falling in love with a local even though you know it can’t last. Evermore is returning to your hometown for the first time in years and looking around at this place and people you know so well but knowing it’s not your home anymore. Folklore is a mermaid. Evermore is a witch.

July 24th 2020 is when folklore was released. July 25th 2020 on a camping trip for my birthday- I put my headphones on and sat by a waterfall before anyone else was awake and listened through the album for the first time. I cried, I admired, and I considered it a gift. I've been a fan since Red and a stan since 1989, but folklore was a special album for me. Taylor's career has affected so many people's timelines ❤

51:13 when I tell you I gasped. Literally top song on Evermore for me like I can't hear "Right where, I cause no harm, mind my business, if our love died young, I can't bear witness and it's been so long, if you ever think you got it wrong I'm right where you left me" Without having a visceral, painful reaction.

I came looking for this comment lol. Seriously it’s such an under appreciated MASTERPIECE. It thematically represents everything that evermore is. The idea of “what if?”

As someone who had always been aware and enjoyed Taylor Swift throughout my life but never really been invested, I became a swiftie watching the coverage of the Eras Tour. Over I guess just the last year and a half, I've done my homework and really caught up on general swiftie knowledge. None of this was shockingly new, but it is so fun to hear the oral history of a Self-Titled/Debut swifitie. Ally, I feel like you need to be bestowed the title of Chief Taylor Swift Oral Historian. You're doing great work that frankly as academics continue studying Taylor and her career, they're gonna need to start relying on people like you and your amazing wealth of knowledge!

I became a swiftie honestly randomly. My ex-best friend encouraged me to listen to Taylor A LOT. So I gave in and became a typical swiftie liking 1989 and all her hit singles. But I would say around when she announced 1989 tv I became a real fan. It was so magical to just watch myself grow into a swiftie. The first song I ever listened to was White Horse. It is still one of my favorites to this day (2 whole years). I went to the eras tour movie! I knew only a few songs sadly, but now I know all of them by heart. I just remember the night my ex best friend “broke up” with me, Taylor’s music just healed me. I feel like she helped me so much through growing into a healthy happy person again. Learning new things about her everyday is so amazing. Seeing all the edits bring me so much joy. She’s just always happy. You have helped me become the biggest swiftie ever. I cannot thank you enough Ally! Love you to the moon and saturn, Abi PS: my favorite albums are speak now and ttpd

Great, comprehensive video as always, Ally! I’m a 51-yr old Swiftie, and my “gateway drug” was Folklore. I heard Cardigan on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation and had to do a double-take when the DJ said it was Taylor. I’m not a country fan nor did I like too many of her pop radio hits. Little did I know the deep, amazingly written catalog I was about to embark on! I went to Eras N2 in Chicago, and am so grateful to have attended that show (though now I know how horribly heartbroken she was then). I was offered the tickets by my boss 3 days before it. Given the ticket fiasco, I honestly didn’t feel worthy enough of a fan to go, and felt the need to binge everything Eras tour on KZbin while making stickers to pass out (not enough time for friendship bracelets). This led me to YOU! Now my family and friends can’t get me to shut up about Taylor. Thank you for your amazing videos, my favorite Aussie! 😉

I'm in a similar boat, I used to despise her when I was a kid but my dad really loved folklore and evermore when they dropped and through him I learned to like her as well. Also "Picture to Burn" always reminded me of one of my favourite songs - "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind - for some reason, so I always gave that song a pass lmao

I paused being a Swiftie right around reputation because I didn't vibe with the aesthetic. By the time folklore and evermore came out I was out of my parents house so they were perfect albums to blast out loud while trying to figure out how to live alone for the first time. And then the rest is history

I already knew everything you told here, but it's always a big pleasure to listen to you talking about Taylor. Informative, kind and entertaining! And my swiftie testimony: I'm 33, Argentine born and raised. I first discovered Taylor because a "MSN friend" I had back in the day (2008), she sent some audio files of Our Song and Should've Said No and I really liked them, even though I wasn't really a country music fan. Taylor wasn't really known or famous here in Argentina. After some years she became more famous and I remember listening to 1989 a lot, but I really became a fan during the pandemic when Folklore came out. I had the oportunity to make a big dive into her older stuff and fell in love with her. That was when I needed to know more about Taylor and your videos really helped with that, so, yes, they're very usefull. Thank you for that :)

The day the You Need to Calm Down video came out I saw the open letter from Taylor come up in my feed. I was very intrigued and so I watched the music video which I loved! I had never really been a fan before (Although I had gone through a phase with White Horse during a break up a while back). I spent a few weeks listening to YNTCD non stop. One week while driving to the grocery store I let the Lover album play on shuffle and False God came on..Chills down my whole body and something really clicked.. like OH.... I began to slowly find more and more songs that I loved and related to. THEN Folklore was dropped...and rest is history. Swiftie for life. I am a 40 year old Swiftie 😊

I just need to say that I love your content so much. Thank you! Oh, and I'm a 63-year-old British prog rock fan who only started being interested in Taylor upon hearing "Did you see my covert narcissism disguised as altruism..." and almost immediately became a full-fledged Swiftie...and found myself spending 2 months rent to go to the last night in Vancouver. I'll never ever regret that decision. I guess you could say I'm one of those people who got swept up in the Eras Tour mania, but I am still listening almost exclusively to The Music Industry playlist I made and, well, spending hours on end watching Tay-related content on KZbin. Also, I need to say that I went to Vancouver alone but came back feeling like I spent the weekend with 60,000 friends. Swifties are the best fans and the loveliest people.

Taylor Swift has a magnificent career and is a unique phenomenon in the music world of the 21st century. She truly is the music industry. As author Chas Newkey-Burden said, she was America’s sweetheart from 2010, a superstar from 2013 or 2014, and a megastar by the 2020s. Thanks to Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and The Eras Tour, the world experienced Taylormania. Taylor can only be compared to Michael Jackson in recent times. She is an exceptional singer, songwriter, entertainer, and producer. Her music videos are also filled with Easter eggs, showcasing her creativity and attention to detail. So much talent in one person! And yet, she is just a normal woman-the nicest celebrity in the world. She never shows signs of snobbery or narcissism. I'm a male fan from Croatia. I'm a journalist, and I've also written about Taylor. I plan to write more in detail in the future. Maybe I should interview you, @ally, for my website. :)

such an amazing video!! but i was still so shocked when you said that right where you left me was your skip from evermore. it’s a perfectly respectable opinion though and i just wanted to tell you why i personally love it so much. JUST THE IMAGERY UGH. the first verse introduces us to things changing all around and then we are struck with this image of her completely still, with dust building on her hair at a restaurant table. like those photos with the motion blurred background except sad, so so much sadder. and it gets sadder every time you listen to it since the real world has moved, but when you press play on the song she still stuck right there, and she will still stay there every time you listen. the dust increasing bit by bit. JUST SO BEAUTIFUL. (imo right where you left me could’ve fit perfectly after tolerate it at the eras tour with the table and everything) but i digress. just picture a mini movie in your mind the next time you listen to it

Blasphemy! How on earth can you skip Haunted? King of my heart?? How you get the girl? Incorrect! Haha I applaud you for putting it out there to the world though

@@katrinablain8494I mean this in the nicest way possible, but we all have different taste in music and if they skip those songs that's okay it doesn't make them incorrect!! 😊

As someone who fell in love with Taylor's music due to folklore being indie folk - I've never been called out like that before 😂❤ It's true, I came from indie/folk music and looked down a little on Pop & Country music. Folklore changed everything for me when it comes to music. That's why I got a folklore-themed tattoo (mirrorball). It's forever my most favourite album of hers 🩶🩶🩶 Also, Great video als always! 🫶🏼

My Swiftie journey started during the Red TV era. I had at least listened to all of Taylor's albums since Lover, but only as background music. I was doing the same with Red TV, but half way through ATWTMV something clicked and i just stopped to listen, like actually listen. I remember just being entranced by the sounds, the lyrics, and the emotions that were being conveyed. I thought "this is the best thing i've ever heard", so i replayed the album, and had that same feeling of awe the whole way through. After that I dove head first into the rabbit hole (shameless Wonderland plug) and haven't looked back since. P.S I love what you do here Ally, its so nice to feel part of this community

I started listening to her albums in 2019, so Lover was technically the first album of Taylor that I listened in its entirety, instead of just listening to her singles, but then , going through her albums, Reputation was the first album I got really OBSESSED with and, I think, truly made me a swiftie. Thank you for that great video and zoom out on her tremendous career. It really made me go down memory lane and my teenage years. It's always a pleasure to listen to you talk about our girl

Thank you Ally. Brilliant video taking me back to where it all began💕💕💕 I am an old, as in old (age), Swiftie and I have loved her since Taylor Swift (Debut) as it took me back to the “good old days” growing up. I had my daughter in 2006 and has followed Tay through tick and thin ever since. Got lucky and got ERAS tickets to her 4th London show (first time I managed that). From the pandemic sister albums, my fav is Evermore. I also hold Folklore close to my heart. Hard to choose as they each fit different seasons🙏 I enjoy all her albums and feel blessed that there are albums for all seasons, moods, life happenings and just an afternoons deep dive once again into her lyrics💕💕💕 Thank you once more for posting this and all your lovely positive content🙏

Reputation was when I really fell in love with Taylor, but as I look back on some of my memories on Facebook, there were times I was still listening to her even before Rep. It's kinda funny realizing I was probably more of a fan than I originally thought 😆

I’ve been a fan of hers since I was a little boy back in 2009, her music always captivated me because of her singing and songwriting. Even as I grew older and I explored more genres, I still go back to her music every now and then. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) are 2 of my favorite albums of hers, with Speak Now being that she wrote all her songs by herself, and 1989 being one of the first albums that I listened to all the way through. Thank you Taylor for your amazing music, and thank you Ally for this video. :)
