This is the same distressed meow my cat does when he thinks he's been abandoned! (He hasn't been, he just doesn't like that the dog gets to go outside and he has to stay in) So weird, it sounds exactly the same!! These dramatic cats, oh my goodness 😂

When she sees us she definitely does the more pleading meow. When she can't see one of us it's more a panicked screaming, but I definitely can't post that to youtube or someone will accuse me of abuse. But she's settling into the new routine, so I'm hopeful for the future

Haha, oops! She's starting to adapt. She's now learning that she does get some outside time every day. We really rattled her by keeping her inside those 2 weeks. But she's slowly settling into the new routine now. Hopefully this way she can be safe but happy :)

I will definitely have to try one of the coming weeks. It'll be an endeavour though, she purrs very softly and my phone does not pick up on it. So I will have to try to film her with my mic one day. The thing is, she also doesn't purr often so, it'll have to be a lucky catch where I have my camera/mic nearby at the right time. Oh and we are the bestest of friends again. Things have improved hugely since we started letting her back out in the daytime. She's still settling into the new routine, but it's much easier to cope with her complaining when you know she will be happy the next day when she can go out. The misery is temporary, not endless. So, there's still a lot of noise, but it doesn't weigh so heavy on me, and her.

She's very cool and very much wants to go outside, but just to watch the birds. She knows she can't catch them, so she doesn't even try. In the past 5 years she's caught 3 mice and 2 bats. I'm pretty sure these were sick or very old and near death already. Maybe they were already dead when she found them. A huntress, she is not.

Haha, it might seem that way, but the 3 doors she focuses on all lead outside. She mistakes the bathroom door for the door to the garage for a couple seconds but quickly moves to the correct one. The door by the stairs leads to the hall with the front door, and the window she ends up at is actually a sliding door that opens to the backyard.

Awwwww :( My coworker at work created an “outdoor space” for her cats but it’s enclosed. Almost like a dog kennel or dog run. Kitties go out the kitty door flap and into their outdoor space. Wondering if that was even an option for you. Shes a beautiful cat!

Thank you! A couple people have suggested something like that, but it wouldn't work for us for a couple of reasons. The most important one being that my dad won't allow a kitty door anywhere, and so we would never be able to get her out of the kitty run and back into the house if we need to get her ourselves.

But the new strategy of her only being outside during daylight hours should work. The only danger comes from other cats, and she's never fought with them during the daytime. So it's a good compromise and she's already adapting

Yup. Those 2 closed ones lead to the front door and garage though. So they are buffer rooms so she doesn't get out when she shouldn't. Some other doors are usually closed but we will open for her if she wants. But she only cares about those two, obviously.

Danielle, this might seem heartless, but my cat, I named Quiji after the Ouiji board because when he was a kitten he seemed like he was possessed. That was almost 13 years ago. You may already know this, but cats meow to humans and not other cats. I have been bitten, clawed, even as recently as a few days ago, but the one thing I’ve learned is that I can’t let my cat feel like he possesses me. I don’t hurt him, but I don’t hesitate to block him out of a room, or even tell him to shut up (which weirdly works, although it didn’t happen over night). He’s an indoor cat, so usually he’s anxious for food or attention. I give it to him, always, but on my terms. He complains. As far as a cat can speak human language, he at times, will let me know. Sooner, rather than later, however, he stops and curls up into a ball somewhere for a nap. I dunno, that’s just been my experience, but you’re a thousand miles away or more and those meows sound exactly the same! Don’t let her possess you. Good luck!

Yeah, these are very different situations. I'm sure that works in your situation and it doesn't seem heartless, but it's not applicable here. This is a deaf and neurotic cat with a history of abuse that just had her whole world turned upside down. She needs some time. We don't give into what she wants (going outside), but she can meow and scream as much as she wants and we won't make her feel bad about that. She feels bad enough. She's not allowed in my bedroom, so I do get to retreat there. But when she is meowing, I still go to her. I could send you a clip of the way she sounds when she can't see one of us and I'd wager that's not what your cat or any normal cat sounds like when they just want food or attention.

@@ASMRvelous You don’t have to send me a clip; I’ll take your word for it. Also, I probably didn’t watch long enough into the clips you’ve already posted to learn that she was deaf and a rescue. That’s my fault. Ouiji, my cat, is getting old, but he still has all his senses about him. When he wants to, he can run up the stairs like a 5 month old. He’s also never been abused. I also don’t allow him into my bedroom at night because he wakes me up otherwise. He doesn’t meow as loud, but he’s really good at banging on the door. As far as your baby girl goes, you do present a challenging situation. I thought I might have had a helpful insight, but apparently I do not. If it were me, and I had your cat in my house, the only answer I’d have would be to have enormous patience and understanding. But you have both of those things, plus your dad, it seems, so I can’t offer you anything more than my gratitude. Gratitude for taking care of her. She deserves someone like you. Maybe there other people who have been in similar situations and are worth reaching out to.

She's already adapting to the new compromise of only being allowed outside during daylight hours. We just really rattled her by keeping her inside fulltime those 2 weeks. She's now starting to understand that that's not going to happen again. So with time, I'm sure things will settle down. I have unlimited amounts of patience for her, and thankfully despite everything she does have a lot of trust in me. We're all fine, it's just the channel that will "suffer" but I honestly don't mind the break either.

I wanted to send you a couple of videos too, but I think I’ll have to create some KZbin links since Gmail’s cap is 25mbs. Until then, I’m glad to hear that she’s acclimating. I never let Quiji outside. I used to live on a busy road and was always afraid he was going to get hit by a car. That’s what happened to his sister, and on the few occasions where he has escaped outside, he’s freaked out and found a place to hide. Inside, however, he does believe this is his castle to keep, lol.

... she's adapting to the new normal. She wants something and she can't speak. Babies cry when they're discontent or want something, we don't give them pills or negative reinforcement for that. Even if she did in fact show problem behaviour, I would still never squirt her. We're 100% sure she was abused by her previous owners and she barely trusts us after 5 years. AND she is deaf, so she cannot hear warning cues. But regardless I would never use a squirt bottle on a trusting/hearing cat either. Ever. You love animals, you say?
