The Antibiotic Ladder Revisited: Anti-infective Therapy Part 2

This video will teach you how to prevent the end of the antibiotic era. The spectrum of individual penicillins, vancomycin, linezolid and the cephalosporins are reviewed using the antibiotic ladder analogy. Antibiograms are also described. Empiric therapeutic regimens based on the IDSA Guidelines and First AID for the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 are summarized. Finally a 7 point strategy for prescribing antibiotics is covered and the importance of apply the 3-day rule and differentiating colonization from infection are emphasized.
