Laudanum was tincture of opium. Some versions mention is as a mixture of opium and alcohol. Mostly used as a potent painkiller and cough suppressant. People often got addicted to it because it was an easy to access, over-the-counter medication and much cheaper than alcohol, which was taxed heavily. Lots of people overdosed on it as well. Those old times were... interesting.

51:01 I'm not a history expert, but if this is set in the 1930s then odds were interracial marriages weren't legal, so they wouldn't have been able to get any "official" recognition of their wedding/union.
@fuzzydunlop79284 жыл бұрын

@@fuzzydunlop7928 From my education in French, white French Algerians weren’t considered fully ‘white’ by mainland French folks-i think they called them Blackfeet or some other slur implying they were dirty or desert-born-so maybe they would be allowed to marry Algerian people of color if they were also considered non-white? Idk love to hear from someone French or Algerian
@D_R114 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzydunlop7928 I believe so since shortly after Gab found a notice of rejection. Though, given who it's from (Ministry of the Interior) perhaps it was more a rejection of immigration for Salim to become an "official" French citizen, which would probably also make any union they had nonofficial. But I'm not an expert and these are just guesses.

"On 20 September 1792, all restrictions regarding interracial marriage were repealed by the Revolutionary government. On 8 January 1803, a Napoleonic governmental circular forbade marriages between white males and black women, or black men and white women, although the 1804 Napoleonic code did not mention anything specific about interracial marriage. In 1806, a French court validated an interracial marriage. In 1818, the highest French court (cour de cassation) validated a marriage contracted in New York between a white man and a colored woman. Not every KZbinr enjoys when the comment section is full of "funfacts", like about Laudanum or Algeria and France or English words--they seem to take it as lecturing somehow. Shes wonderful to watch ( and isnt screaming at the monitor, plus she doesnt over act when something happens in game ) It allows people to immerse into the games and the stories much more and it genuinely feels like we all get to figure out the plot together and those who may have already played certain games are very respectful about spoilers. A couple of connection points to Dark Descent, for those who have forgotten the details: 37:53 Johann Weyer is mentioned by Agrippa in Dark Descent. Weyer was his student originally, but surpassed him, and Agrippa admired him greatly. 41:10 Brennenburg was the name of Alexander's castle in Dark Descent. It was actually a relief to watch another lady play this. I've watched quite a few first impressions and there's unanimous mention from guys thinking something about the game is off but struggling to critique why, and it just gives me strong vibes that (even if they don't realise it themselves or intend it) they have an immediate bias against playing as Tasi, listening to her talk, and having to play a story so deeply involved with her baby. I only got more and more engrossed in the story as it started to piece together and pick up pace, while there is so much criticism about the game that often looks like grasping at straws to justify not wanting to participate in this characters narrative. and maybe thats just me and a lot of people roll their eyes at things like this but idk. it was nice. not that the game is perfect or anything, it relies a little too heavily on a single clue to imply big things about the story for one thing, i just dont think its coincidence that Gab didn't express the same kind of comment that everyone else makes about it

I appreciate your play style with narrative-driven games so much! I always feel out of sorts when a play through skips over notes and other storytelling elements. Like I'm watching the game sure, but if I don't know the whole story, do I really know the story at all? Unless it's a specific kind of game(something I want to see specific KZbinrs react to), watching more than one person play a long game is difficult for my attention span. My brain's like "ah you already know this game, time to not retain any new information at all!" So when I watch a series of a story game that's probably gonna be the only play through I watch. And your pts perfectly encapsulate so many awesome games! They always feel fully fleshed out and leave my curiosity satisfied instead of frustrated and questioning. I adore it for this game, and I really really appreciate how you did that for Control too! Even tho it wasn't the most popular, i love it so much, and you took everything in, and shared it all with us viewers! They are always made even more enjoyable by that inimitable Evelien humor and commentary! I saw one comment say "inland" which makes sense to me. Kind of reminds me of stage directs, which is from the perspective of the stage, so facing the audience. Stage Left, Stage Right, DownStage is going towards the audience and UpStage is going to the back of the stage because back in Rome, the stages were raked, meaning it was on an angle, so you were literally going up or down the stage. Onstage, and Offstage, and unless your closer to centerstage of almost off stage, you could be more on or off stage if you're on stage, lol. the best is when a director is like " go downstage right, but more onstage," actors are always like "here?"

Well I kinda have a theory. I'm getting vibes that Alys is dead. Sometimes women can lose track of how far along they are if they're in denial or not ready to have a child. If Alys is dead, she might not feel ready. She may have sounded happy when she told Salim but things can change. It may have after Alys died(assuming she is dead and died after Tasi conceived). Plus in the beginning of the game, she woke up disoriented and with all the stress she's going through, I wouldn't be surprised if she's experiencing amnesia to a certain degree. She doesn't seem to remember a lot of things and is having to backtrack. I could be wrong tho.

Hey Ev, :) Whenever you do a new lets play, i love digging into the stories and seeing if i can connect any facts. I found a good one here. It could have alot to do with the experience that is " amnesia " Laudanum is a real drug, prescribed to many as early as 1527 ( when opium was reintroduced into western medicine). Coming into the 19th century it was diluted, though not without its warnings, without proper guidance by a physician the drug was commonly misused. As a sister to opium, when misused Laudanum caused confusion, hallucinations, lapse in memory and dependency for coherence after long term use. Many who took the drug had these side effects and to cope they would overdose the recommended amount in hopes it would balance out the effects. Which it did, temporarily. Though it may have temporarily nullified the side effects , this also caused further mental deterioration and became quite addicting after all this is a string of opium.

OMG, I’ve been dying to see a full play through of this game since Markiplier abandoned his 😅 (No hate to Mark whatsoever, I was just real sad he didn’t finish it) Now that I’ve found your playthrough I can say goodbye to my sleep schedule for the next two days. I love your videos so much ❤😂

5:37 Laudanum is basically opiates. It’s pain killer, but also has stress relief obviously. It gets a bad wrap right now because it’s abused, but it’s a useful drug. Just like anything. It all depends how you use it.
