Hey there! Today I want to share my experience with the AooStar GEM12 mini PC, which Banggood kindly sent over for me to check out. Just to be upfront, this review is totally my own-Banggood didn't influence what I'm about to say. You can find a link in the video description if you're interested in grabbing one for yourself, plus there's a coupon code that's good until the end of July, so make sure to snag it while you can!
Initially, I unboxed the AooStar and dove right into testing. While setting up, I had a minor hiccup with Google flagging some activity, which prompted me to play it safe and reinstall Windows 11. Good thing I backed up my drivers beforehand-it saved me a headache when Windows didn't recognize a crucial Ethernet driver. With everything up and running smoothly again, I ran various benchmarks and tests, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results, especially with its capability to handle gaming and video editing tasks.
Speaking of gaming, the AooStar managed titles like Fallout 4 and Rocket League quite well on medium settings, though it struggled a bit with Cyberpunk 2077. For video editing, it breezed through rendering tasks once I upgraded to 32GB of RAM and added NVMe drives, courtesy of Kingston. The performance boost was noticeable, especially in rendering times.
Overall, the AooStar GEM12 has been a reliable companion for both work and play. Its compact size and robust performance make it a standout in the mini PC category. The networking features are solid, and while more USB ports would have been nice, a docking station solved that issue for me. Plus, it runs quietly, which is a big plus.
In conclusion, despite a few initial bumps, the AooStar GEM12 has won me over with its versatility and performance. Huge thanks to Banggood for providing the device and Kingston for the upgrades-they definitely enhanced the experience. If you're in the market for a mini PC that can handle a variety of tasks without breaking a sweat, this one's worth considering.
