Loved what you did with your balcony garden especially in such a narrow space. It’s nice seeing another balcony gardener growing things.

Problem with balconies is the weight of Planters with wet soil..especially if you use concrete, very quickly exceed the safe weight Limit of a similar structure
@amerikanculture45832 жыл бұрын
Not really. Most balconies can hold at least 10-15 people. I’m sure at least a ton so a few plants shouldn’t affect the stability of the structure.
@Kod_omo Жыл бұрын
@@amerikanculture4583 that’s not exactly correct. It depends on the size, materials and age of the balcony. But I’m average a balcony is built to hold between 50-100lb per square foot (American here, I don’t know the metrics) With how small her balcony is I would assume a concrete planter full of soil, water, and vegetables could be teetering dangerously on the balcony weight limit
@jordanxfile Жыл бұрын
@@Kod_omo Yeah, it made me nervous too. I have a very similar balcony and I would never put that much weight on it, even though it has a wall on one side (separating my balcony from the next door neighbor's). For a balcony completely exposed on both sides (sticking out), people need to especially watch with the weight of things.
@da1stamericus9 ай бұрын
@@jordanxfile I agree. I live in a newish (10 years old) high rise building and the weight is about 250kg per m² . Which is about 9 sq², which is more or less the same. I grow on my balcony and I tell people to take weight into consideration.

Oh so jealous...cause my balcony has only about 2 hours of sunlight in winter and almost nothing is growing properly...no matter what I sow. And I know that I should grow herbs( but it's not enough for me) and grow lights which I apply only for 2-3 plants and it also not always work...

This video was so helpful. Thanks for sharing. :D I'm curious about the measurements of the concrete planters, specifically the height. Not sure what what be the ideal height for root growth. Could you please share? Thanks!
@rhawclub25543 жыл бұрын
So glad it was helpful! So the cube planter is 60cm to a side (approx 2ft) it has a little less depth than that as I built the hidden self-watering system into the base which takes a little room, so it has around 50cm of depth in all. That amount of depth isn’t strictly necessary for most veggies but it works great when growing root veg as there is plenty of room for things like carrots to grow to their full size! The other advantage is that it allows a lot of space to maintain a healthy soil life ecosystem which means the planter can support lots of companion planting 😊
@CCass-jv4fx3 жыл бұрын
@@rhawclub2554 Thank you so much for replying. I will take note of that as I’ve been looking at different concrete planters but they all seem to lack height. Might have to get them custom made also. Anyways, looking forward to seeing more of your vids. ☺️
