The Apostolic Tradition holds an important place among the documents describing the life and #liturgy of the early Church. The Eucharistic prayer contained therein was used to compose the second Eucharistic prayer of the Roman #messal.
The Apostolic Tradition is a collection of regulations, information on community life and liturgical texts. Discovered around 1910, it is attributed to Pseudo-Hippolytus. The original Greek text has been lost.
Until the beginning of the 20th century its existence was only known thanks to the title carved on the throne of the statue known as St. Hippolytus at the entrance to the Vatican Library. The analysis places the document in the first half of the 3rd century (c. 218-220), in Syria or Alexandria.
