I went to see it today. Sebastian’s performance was spot on. I grew up in the NJ/NYC area & the legal woes and media coverage are factual.

Both actors carried the story, which felt and looked like it was “based on truth” not lies. Jeremy Strong’s body language, facial expressions, eyes and words convinced me about Roy Cohn’s person, a very bad man among many. Cohn apparently died of AIDS. The movie helped me understand Trump’s chronic deception now and why people worship him as ‘a strong man and leader,’ and then vote for him: they do it because he told them to, lied until they believe it. From the movie: “The only thing that matters is winning…The 3 rules: 1) attack attack attack, 2) admit nothing, deny everything, claim you won even if you didn’t, and 3) be ready to harm others, even if they helped you, do whatever it takes, legal or not, to win.”. The movie makes sense of who Trump has always been and is now.

Saw it. Great acting and cohesive storyline. I lived in walking distance from the Commodore Hotel when it was renovated and rebranded as the Hyatt Grand Central. I remember the controversy over the tax exemption Trump obtained. It was a nostalgia movie for me to watch.

Yesterday I drove about ten miles away, to a cineplex to see the just released movie The Apprentice (about Trump in the 1970s and 80s). At the 4pm screening I was one of nine people in the audience, and my review is: Since I unfortunately started paying attention to Donald Trump when he descended his “golden” escalator at the Trump Tower on June 16, 2015 to begin his first political campaign - almost ten years ago - nothing in this movie was new to me but as a biography it hit ALL the notes about him in the 1970s and 80s. This movie was well written (100% plausible dialog and situations), superbly acted and produced, and when it ended after two hours I felt dirty and in need of a hot shower.

I didn't know what to expect when I saw this film. When the film starts, they try to make Trump a sympatric character. I thought, here we go. They're making him someone to admire. I was wrong. The tone of the film shifts. It gets darker and darker as it goes on. The eerie soundtrack sets the tone. You start to dislike Donald Trump. You see him for the monster he really is. The movie ends on an ominous note. It's like a warning of what's to come.

saw it last Friday and thought it was a masterpiece that talks from the past, about our present and just uses Trump as an example, as he's Cohn today, for many other Apprentices, worldwide. You can't really understand the events of the extreme right and neofascism spreading in the world today, unless you understand how its biggest mentor, got to be like he is. A necessary film and all three stars deserve Oscar consideration. It doesn't matter that Bakalova has a more limited role (in comparison), Beatrice Straight won the Oscar for a way more limited one.

Thanks for the review Ryan, looking forward to it. Happy to be here with you for another long Oscar's season. I think he has a shot at Best Actor. I'm thinking Adrien Brody, Colman Domingo & Ralph Fiennes are locks but I can see Sebastian Stan sneaking in. Since Queer is receiving a mixed reaction I'm not too sure about Daniel Craig's chances, I took him out for now. Still waiting on reactions to movies like Gladiator II, A Complete Unknown & Juror #2 to get a clearer picture.

I thought this was a brilliant and amazingly shot film. Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong should be nominated without any doubt as their performances were subtle and at the same time, intense. Please, please, though - review Sebastian Stans's superb movie " A Different Man" . Absolutely unbelievable. Never seen a movie like it. And - he won The Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for that performance. Honestly - he has absolutely smashed it twice this year with two very award worthy performances. Your review was very well done by the way.

What percentage do you give Stan for being nominated for Oscar? Cant wait to see it
@RyanCasselmanАй бұрын
I wanna say 45% Only because it looks like an uphill battle for this to get that Best Picture nom. I feel like IF Stan is in, then so is Picture and so is Supporting Actor. It's hard to separate those three. My best guess is the film won't make the cut in any category due to just timing. Also, Stan doesn't sound like Trump that much in the first half. It's intentional and thought it was the perfect choice, I'm not sure the Academy members will see it the same way. I'm crossing my fingers though. I'd like to see it. 🙂 Cheers!

I asked for this review, until I found you guys. I saw it today , it was very well made. The acting of Stan and Kohn is mesmerizing , I didn’t know what to expect either, just was curious to see it, I believe the whole Deny, Deny, Deny and never admit defeat or failure it’s exactly how he lives his life, and we as Americans have paid the price, because he just won’t go away and accept he’s too old and a convicted felon now, anyway. I don’t think his mentor made him who he is I think he brought the real DJT out. All in all I give the movie a 8/10. 👍
