Thank you for bringing the Ara Pacis to life in such a vivid way.

As a former gallery artist and illustrator who loves color, I'm always amused at how color phobic most modern people are. It seems the ancients didn't share those feelings. All over the ancient world there was color! It was everywhere. So, who are we to say that white or beige is better or more "sophisticated"? To them, color meant wealth and power and luxury. That's my opinion anyway. I have no problem with it. 🌺

we have so much creature comfort, people can not imagine how it was like. I still remember after all these lives, that roman dry bread lumb with grains of stone in them and being hungry all the time. that if you where a youth you be just ok, you could find a job do anything. if you old and redundant its game over.

I visited this in 2019. It was very interesting. Obviously they probably had plans to restore the mausoleum then though it hadn't been done. I am interested to visit again when that restoration is further along. Very interesting about the excavation that brought it to light literally. What else is held beneath the ground even now is amazing to ponder.

I think they could have used led lights to illuminate the Ara Pacis in the painted colours to show how it used to look like without compromising the marble

I visited this in May 2023. It is well worth visiting. Tip: bring Euros; admission is cash only. Then, on the side of the pavilion, I think is a carving of The Acts of the Divine Augustus. I say "I think" because I didn't know in advance and I missed it. If someone can confirm or refute, please do.

😋about this time we would be going around the houses asking "do you have any old future to spare"? we go rent a market stall and sell the December gifts for the new year🤪😜

Thank for the educational presentation. Excellent. The only problem, if I may, are the colors that are way too brash and badly done in reconstruction. Even in the color frescoes showing painted buildings and statues, the colors are subtle and pleasant, rather than brash and bitchy as in these "reconstruction". In your other videos you have shown them and their beautiful subtelty. I wished you had warned people, Doc, so that they won't get mislead by the amateurism or colorizer of the photos
