This is my main deck, and I feel like it is so underrated. I have so much to say about it. First, instead of Potions and Red Card, I have one Pidgeot. It doesn't always get there, but when it does, it's a free Sabrina every turn. It has decent HP and attack on top of that, if it ever needs to tag in. I think Koffing is one of those basics that likes going first, like most Pokémon that have a Stage 1 with one-energy attacks. Weezing on Turn 3 exerts a good amount of pressure, especially against Mewtwo. Arbok is great at locking in high value targets and will often be the one making the game-defining plays. Koga is basically extra lives for Weezing and Sabrina can force your opponent to make choices they don't want, possibly putting a vulnerable Pokémon in the active spot. And one important thing about the deck, IMO, is knowing when to let go of a Pokémon and give the opponent a point. You have to think a turn or two ahead of your opponent. In my experience, because of the popularity of the meta decks, a lot players don't quite understand how to manage tempo in a game, because they're just rushing to their win condition. This deck lets you set the tempo and force the opponent to play suboptimally. It is very interactive and requires lots of decision making to win. With good planning, it absolutely holds up against pretty much every deck.
@johndinner4418Ай бұрын
I wouldn't call it underrated, it's the first deck people think of when going anti-meta because how common mewtwo was. I say this because not only did I end up making p much the exact same deck by accident on day 1 and thought it was so underrated, when I go into any discussion where mewtwo was brought, arbok/wheezing deck always got mentioned. It's THE known deck that doesn't scream it's known at first glance, but it totally is if you're knowledgeable enough about the game to say the words "meta" and "anti-meta".

Loving this deck. While every deck is very simple due to the nature of this game, this one is VERY interactive thanks to the low damage and use of Koga. Not just "cheat out energy the fastest" or "Pikachu Ex". Even with 1 Arbok (since I don't have a second) and Pidgot, it's been a great deck. It feels like an actual Pokemon battle, and not just "I leveled just my starter and am sweeping everything."
@devonzellpernell8895Ай бұрын
I won a few games against Laparas mains using that strat with pidgeot. Though with Koga it does require you to think ahead more.
@redfrog4547Ай бұрын
@@devonzellpernell8895 Yeah, for sure. I decided I have to move away from Pidgeot (sadly, as I love his Star card). Mainly because of the nature of needing 3 specific 1-ofs cards to do one thing, and switched to Sparrow + Ferrow + Sabrina. It's not the best, but it's interesting, and little more consistent, plus having the unique ability to remove energy. Curves nicely. Doesn't usually make a huge difference, but can slow down a Mewtwo or make retreats harder if you win a coin flip, especially if you get lucky enough to lock down a Lapras with no Misty or multiple x speeds.

I've played a lot of Classic Koga as well as this "mukless" version, and after 100 games with each of the two versions and analyzing all of my matchups, I've come to the conclusion that running 1 Grimer and 1 Muk gives you the damage output you need to fight Erika-based decks as well as many other decks where 60 damage just doesn't cut it. You lose a bit of consistency with your Poké Balls, but since you want to drag your games into the later turns anyway, I've found the Muk version to be slightly better.

Everyone was talking about Pikachu being the best deck in the game. One deck that I was running that surprisingly counters Pikachu is the 2 butterfree, 2 exeguttor deck. I actually don’t have 2 exeguttor EX’s, I have 1, so I used a regular exeguttor with an EX. This works pretty well because I always put down the non-EX when given the option, so if it dies, they only get 1 point. But with 2 Erika’s and 2 potions, unless the other player gets a good hand while using a fire deck, they can’t stop the setup of at least 1 butterfree or exeguttor. Caterpie feeds me grass types unless they threaten it, exeguttor can go in at any time since it only takes 1 energy to attack, and I don’t have to put any energy on butterfree to use the ability, so I can set up exeguttor to escape if its HP gets low. Then retreat, let butterfree tank a hit, retreat for 1 or 0 energy, and use Erika and potion with the butterfree ability to get exeguttor back in the fight and max HP in 1 turn. There are a lot of times I finish the game with 0 or 1 pokemon fainting, and then the rest are max HP. Pikachu can do 90 damage max. Potion basically drops the damage to 70, Erika drops it to 40, butterfree with either of those drops this damage to 50/20, 2 butterfrees drop the damage to 30/0. It’s just constantly shaving off damage for a pokemon that already has 160 or 130 HP, along with butterfree being able to tank with 120HP and then retreat. I finally unlocked Sabrina too, so that should help with fire types/mewtwo

This is one of the few decks I actually have all the cards for, so I tried it and I am loving it so far! My first opponent conceded like on the fourth turn (I think their hand sucked), my second started with a Ralts and admirably tried to switch it out with a Pidgy, but my girl Sabrina put a stop to that nonsense. The last match I did was against a Mewtwo EX deck and they were clearly not prepared for the levels of tomfoolery I brought to the table. The only opponent that soundly spanked me was someone running a Marowak EX deck. That's the one achilles heel I've seen with this deck. If your opponent is running fighting and your draws are anything less than God handing you the exact cards you need, you're in for a bad time.

So I just tried this deck (with a Meowth and an X Speed instead of a second Weezing and second Potion that I don't have), got matched up against a Mewtwo deck that drew nothing but a Ralts, and went first, starting off with an Ekans in the active. Drew a Koffing and played that. Passed to opposing player, who dinged for 10 and passed back. Drew the X Speed, retreated Ekans into Koffing, evolved to Weezing, used its poison, then did 30 + 20 (weakness) + 10 (poison) to poor Ralts, ending the game. In other words: Thanks for the deck idea. It's pretty fun.

I feel like the game might benefit from resistances after all. They could help with hard countering some meta decks, like how Ground (Fighting) would be even stronger against Pikachu EX, and some future Dark cards could help against Mewtu EX. That way you would avoid actual nerfs, which no one really likes to see. I hope they reconsider that for future updates.
@MegaCrazyhandАй бұрын
I think it would also make decks a bit more varied. A Water that resists Water has a bit of different role than a Water that resists Fire as an easy example. It wouldn't be bad to use it to vary some more none meta decks, like having Steel types have multiple resistance options to make up for the low number of monsters available for it

I run 1x Grimer/Muk instead of Red Card and Giovanni. It's a good energy sink and sets up oneshots on some EX mons in conjuction with Koga and Weezing, notably EXChu, Mewtwo and forces EX birds to switch out otherwise they die to poison chip without healing. Worst case scenario it's a bigger body than Weezing and Koga still works on it so if it gets sour at least Muk can sponge a bit and get sent back to your hand. Muk is too inconsistent to be ever ran at 2x and it really depends on Weezing to be able to function but it's still the heaviest hitter in the whole Poison type squad, hits important damage thresholds and thus you have to respect it.

My meowth hit for 10, next turn, evolved into Persian, used Giovani “Good kitty” Persian did 50 damage, killed nidoran, hit heads, discarded their nidoking 😂 Made me realize how nicely you can kill a 60 hp Pokémon if you go second, and they don’t evolve or swap their 60 hp Pokémon. With a poke ball, professor research, meowth card draw. + natural card draw.. Real decent odds of pulling the pieces you need early, and if you can discard a card from their hand… that’s Some of the best value… Red card and aerodactyl both put cards back into their deck to be drawn again. But Persian OHKO them to the shadow realm. 😮
@MiloThatch420Ай бұрын
I played it again, and had to adjust my plans.. but if they open with a big hp, wall Pokémon… intending to build their bench while snorlax tanks… your meowth can draw a ton off him, and make them discard But if they open up aggressive, you may just get 1 card draw off, evolve to Persian just to tank another hit and put the next energy on the next Pokémon rather than committing to trying to get multiple Persian hits. (First time playing with meowth and Persian and it felt pretty good 👍 90 hp 40 damage I ain’t nothin… can be slower than them if they are playing some agro Blane stuff, but if they ignore a meowth opening you can punish)

But basically anything that has a turn 1 evolution that hits immediately is great going first. While gimmicky, Golbat and primeape is pretty good but golbat is really just a worse dugtrio besides if you specifically want a better match up into mewtwo and golbat going first is fantastic for that.

I can't tell if I am on crazy pull luck, but I pulled Immersive Zard and Starmie EX from backwards packs today... like the ones that spawn in backwards... Not sure if they are actually better.

I think if they change ditto to require the number of energy, but not exact type, then it might be useable.

I've had Mewtwos quit turn 1 on the card reveal with this deck. 😆 Also been TKO'd with this deck by a single event mankey/primeape. 😅

I've been running a pretty bad version, with double arbok, a muk and nidoking, because 98% of what I face is double mewtwo and I have to be extremely unlucky to not win
