I have always had HUGE respect for the cast of Riverdale because they endured shitty writing and sex fantasies of the show runner for 6-7 seasons and turned up every year with a smiling face, except Lili Reinhart, she accepted defeat by 3rd or 4th season ans constantly joked about her character being killed off so that she doesn't return next season.

Let me make a logical guess how this movie came to be. KJo as usual volunteered to make a grand launchpad for the babies, who are so talented, passionate but misunderstood and "hated" by the audience for no reason. But the parents were apprehensive (seeing the "acceptance" the previous Nepo babies launched by him received). Cue Round Table Conf! And voila! Zoya! The only Nepo director/producer who has an ounce of credibility. Either she was basically arm-twisted into staking her whole career and credibility to build an even shinier launchpad while being paid handsomely. Or she chose to do this for the kids who basically grew up in front of her eyes, being a good aunty. Either way sucks for the audience!

When the movie came out I didn't read or watch any reviews because I didn't want to have an opinion already. Then I tried to watch this film three times just because I like Zoya Akhtar movies. Papa was crying for 3 days as he was missing Sridevi and thinking accha hai ye sab dekhne ke liye woh Zinda nahi hai. Sridevi knew that her daughters are hopeless so she never tried for them. But ye tehri papa ki pariyan. Whenever Sridevi use to cry in any emotional scene it used to make me cry also. The climax scene of movie Suhagan in which she was casted opposite Jeetendra whenever I watch it I cry. Sridevi's daughters should watch her movies. What was the point of painstakingly creating the Archies world when they wouldn't make it a murder mystery? The aesthetics, sets and costumes of the movie were great but likewise I believe that this film lacked something The plotline was very loose , hollow and predictable, the characters couldve been written better if this was suppose to be "coming of the age". The entire movie felt like mocking instead of a "feel good" experience. My take on it was, I literally just wanted to get to the end of it as quickly as possible. I almost didn’t pay attention to much as there really wasn’t any meat in the story. I’ve read the comic books but Reggie would be a villain in the comic and always got his way, so his character was a surprise. Both Betty and Veronica are petite, and Khushi didn’t physically suit her part. Agastya made a pretty cute Indian Archie. Pop Tates is such an exciting ice cream shop in the comic, but in the movie, it looked so dull and boring I wanted to cry.

This was such a disappointing movie. I have been a big fan of the comics, my childhood closet is literally filled with them. I thought Zoya would definitely do justice, they had the perfect set, aesthetics, costumes etc but the script was so terrible. The only thing good about this movie was that it was just a notch better than Riverdale, which is not a compliment. They could have just picked up a storyline form the comics.

Archies was an okay movie. Just a feel good, breezy, light hearted time pass. The hate is directly proportional to the amount of marketing and PR it is though. If it hadn’t been shoved down the audience’s throats, perhaps people would be kinder to it. It’s just a popcorn movie about teenagers. It wasn’t so bad. Honestly I liked it. The whole hill station and dancing in Gymkhanas reminded me of my childhood and my grandparents in a hill station. To each their own.

Thanks so much for this review. Haven't watched the film but iska promotion itna over the top tha that I had heard about it. The comics are good. Netflix waali series bhi nahi dekhi but after this film that might also seem better in comparison. 😂

Archies movie has already been made in India . Jo jeeta wohi Sikandar Kuch kuch hota hai And Raj Kumar Santoshi has said that he based the characters of Amar and Prem of Andaz apna apna on Reggie and Archie respectively .
