The man was an asshole, but he did have the redeeming quality of truly loving his family. While they're on the plane making their way to the ark, he's holding a picture of his wife, who is presumably deceased at that point and his two sons with a look of longing and regret on his face, clearly wishing she was still with him and his boys. He treated his mistress terribly, because he never really got over the loss of his wife. Her only purpose was to serve as a front for him to show the world he had moved passed his wife's death, when in truth, he never did. His boys are the last thing he has that truly mean something to him. The last tether that still gave him some amount of humanity and relatability, so when he had to make the choice of saving them or saving himself, he saved them. Not even a doubt in his mind. He pushed them onto that ledge and gave his life to boost his son high enough to make it, knowing it would cost him his life and he did it anyway. He was a dick, but his love for his family ran as deep as anyone elses and was truly genuine. He loved his sons more than anything else and there was no doubting that.

The way i see it is, even if you're an asshole or stuck up bitch or anything like that, if you have the strength to do whatever it takes to save your kids, you earned respect no doubt

Most sub hatches open upwards and bunker blast doors open downwards, so in the event of mechanical failure gravity will do the work of closing them. Somehow the designers for this sub decided that the only way to close the hatch / door is upwards, counter to gravity and via a system with a single point of failure 😂

This is a ship not a sub. I suppose they used as reference the roro(often called the shoe box) and ferry to create the ark. It's upwards because the pressure of the water comes always from below. The ark was never supposed to be underwater.

If they anticipated a flood coming - they'd have known the direction it was coming from, maybe they could have built it in the side of the mountain facing AWAY from the ocean? Or built them deeper in, so once the water came over, they'd come out as submarines that would pop up to the surface right away?

Well at first, they had 2 hours before the wave from the west reaches them until Satnam alerted that the other wave from the east was approaching from where he was and died. They were not prepared for the waves from the east. Therefore, the clock calculations were adjusted for that wave coming to them and then they have 28 mins left.
