I would suggest not to drybrush before when doing these type of power weapons, the drybrush parts takes away from the blue/white and it makes it all blend together a bit, it also has a clean distinction of 2 different painting types (which can be good something, but not in this case).

Josh Maddux my art style (personally) is a bit more subtle versus high contrast so the blending or subtle transitions are definitely by intention. All depends on ones personal preferences :) As with all of the videos I’ve put out I encourage the viewers to take the tools they may learn and make them their own, use them in ways that they like not just the exact ways I use them. It’s what I appreciate most about painting, even with the same tools and paints everyone approaches a piece differently which yields awesome diversity.
