Just bought a 289.... I am very happy with your results. Intend to use mine mainly for 1/35 armor and 1/48 aircraft. Looks like it will do a lot better than my cheap chinese brushes that constantly give me problems.

On page 2 of the instructions, it shows the ‘flimsy’ black hose and the large silver component being used on an aerosol pressure pack can. Both items are not required for a regular airbrush/compressor setup.

Have badgers and GSI. The GSI atmomise paint better. SOTAR comes close when paint is thinned properly - think it has the same head as the Krome.

Shot in the dark, but Austin, you did a video on OSL many years ago using a model you painted like Captain America for your nephew. I have been trying to find it with no luck. Any chance you can point me that way?

Excellent value for money, but a higher end airbrush not really necessary for a beginner. Mr. Hobby's stuff easier to just refer to model numbers. e.g. PS289 & everyone knows what you're talking about without confusion. Excellent choice if budget isn't an issue, but there are airbrushes which will do as good a job, last as long for considerably less. e.g. Sparmax SP-35 or Max-3. Badgers are good too -caveat, if you're in the USA. I have three of them. Well two Badgers and an Omni. But the brand is too expensive outside the USA because of the ridiculously inflated USD and exchange rates.

A quick read of the English instructions tells you the included hose and connection are for use with a portable air can. Also explains that rotating the nozzle cap 1/4 turn is designed to permit back flushing the airbrush. Best and simplified way to back flush. I have the H&S Evolution 0.4mm and Tamiya 0.2mm air brushes, the Creos PS289 0.3mm is my favorite for quality spraying and ease of cleaning.

I doubt your leak was why it was kicking on so frequently. it has a very small tank and the retrigger pressure is probably right near the all full pressure. I had the same issue and mounted my rig to a 20lb tank and now I can paint like 30 minutes before my compressor kicks on.

Not sure if you knew this at the time of recording this video but those 289's "Mr Hobby" are made by the same company that makes the Iwatas. You are basically getting an Iwata HL model at half the price. Excellent Airbrush! The Tamiya HG line are also made by the same company which I believe is called B.C. or B.B. Rich. I have the Tamiya HG Superfine.... best brush I ever used for miniatures!

Hey Justin & to all in the chat that have experience with the 105 and/or 289. I’m in the market to paint/primer/clear coat some 1/24 size model cars (tired of using spray cans). Do you think for base coating needs the 289 will handle base coating primer and clear coats or would the 105 be the better option as the needle sizes are bigger and since the only 289 has a .2 and .3 needle available? Thank you in advance
@kevinkerlin5603
@kevinkerlin5603 3 жыл бұрын
I have the ps 289 yes you can use for 1/24. Take into consideration how easy it would be to replace parts if ever needed for either airbrush and I think the badger would work to.

I would advise against taping the needle of any airbrush that uses Iwata type tiny nozzles unless you want to flare it. Just push it gently until you feel the needle touching the nozzle and you are ok. Also avoid pulling back the trigger and release until it snaps repeatedly.

ue pigments comes only from the earth and come in only red blue and green. thus the primary colors on the color wheel. everything else you see on the market is a mica powder and is ususally sparkly and is manb made. although they still call it pigment powder, but it is not. and if you are trying to mix paint color from mica powder you swill ususally be disappointed and get very light colored pastel looking colors. takes a lot to make it a more primary color. i wish people would understand this. its so confusing the way it is.

Pro tip. Plumbers tape always goes on clockwise or rather the same direction you are putting the bolt on. So that way when you screw on the coupling or bolt or whatever it doesnt fight the tape and start to pull it off.

So after 2 years, have you continued to use this compressor, or did you go back to your other one? My compressor is a 60 dollar one from a big box store. It's loud, it does its job, but it's meant for air tools like nail guns so the controls aren't the greatest for lower PSI functionality. I'm looking for a new one. Any recommendations?

Sorry we didn't see this sooner, when I'm painting at home I still use this one. Haven't noticed any issues. Admittedly I don't paint every day like I did at the height of my commission painting days but it still works for me :) (This is the guy in the video!)
