cnet.co/1Dlbfnw CNET editor Dong Ngo did some blah blah talking and then a real-world drop test on the Silicon Power Armor A60 portable drive. You can't miss this if you want to find out how you can find out about the test result.

only Dong Ngo would take a rugged hard drive and take it to that kind of drop test

So didn't expect that ending, only people as cool as Dong Ngo can do that and get away with it. Boss move 😎

I had the old Armor A80 which was pretty rugged externally, but something fried internally and failed. Lost near 500GB and I stupidly didn't back it up. I've since switched to Western Digital, but I'd probably give these guys another go.

What's the difference between A30 and A80 aside from looks? About the look though, I've not seen a cooler looking drive than A80. I *LOVE* that it has STANDARD usb 3.0 plug at both ends and they TUCK in to the body of the drive, instead of hanging out. The drive includes a short cable, that tucks in to the drive and a generously long one, which does not tuck in anywhere, but still a very good config.

I have this HD and although I never put it through any durability tests, I'm glad I bought it. KZbin has nothing but this for stress tests on this thing. I was disappointed at that because I wanted to see what kind of hard drive this really is. But it obviously handles drops well and that's exactly why I got it. My last 2TB hard drive (Western Digital portable) busted with a 2ft. drop on tile. Lost everything. Ruined my day to say the least. Actually it ruined my month. After the incident I bought a bulky 4TB drive to back up all my stuff and I bought a Silicon Power A60. That drop ain't happening again, for f%k sakes!

can you suggest me which External Hard drive is better and low failure rate, looking for 1TB under 60$, WD, SP, Seagate?

I've been very happy with A80 1TB. I bought it at walmart for $62, but the price has gone up. I want to buy another A80 but 2TB. Newegg has 2TB for $98. I like that they also offer data recovery plan and replacement warranty. If you bought 1TB already, I strongly suggest getting another A80, but a 2TB. BEST PROTECTION against drive failure is to have multiple backup drives. The best way to keep your data "fresh" is to copy your working backup drive to a freshly formatted (Deep format, not Quick format) or Brand -new drive. This way your files will be freshly magnetized to a brand new drive and they will be UN-FRAGMENTED !!! This will dramatically increase the speed, but more importantly cause much much much wear and tear on your drive's moving parts. That's why I will need minimum of three external drives; one working one, one backup and one copy of backup... which I should rotate as often as I can, to refresh the magenitazation and keep the files un fragmented. Rotate rotate rotate; then you will NEVER need to worry about one out of the three suddenly crashing.. no big deal.
