Interesting detail about the enchanted snare in Carian Manor: Once you kill Loretta, the snare outside the manor stops. My head canon is that Loretta is the one doing the magic arrow rain.

Cuckoo soldiers were opportunistic mercenary knights who never missed a chance to get more power. They managed to kick the Caria family out of the Academy but ultimately they neither captured it, nor the royal manor. The manor was defended with the help of various horrific creatures and traps, such as magic rain, and the Academy was fend off by Renalla's Carian knights, who were low in nubmers but strong in devotion. One of them, Moongrum, still guarding the entrance to the library.

Interesting note is that, while some of them seem to cast spells, none of there abilities actually require any amount of inteligence. Like all of there magic damage abilities are either available as ash of wars, or are consumable items like glintstones and magic grease. I feel this kinda adds to the whole, pretending to be the people they ousted vibe.

The Cuckoo name makes more sense now that I know they ousted the Carians from their Manor (nest) and took it over.

I think it’s more to do with the academy, as the sword grave outside Caria manor says they failed to take it, Iiji also mentions how even while surprised the Carians were still strong enough to repel them (explaining why Ranni, ghost of Loretta, the troll knight and multiple sorcerers are still there).

It would’ve been cool if we had some more lore concerning the knights of the Cuckoo, concerning their leader and why they thought differently than the Raya Lucaria scholars. Wouldve been fun to see the politics involved between 3 different magic factions (Carian Royals)

The only chest armor that I wear in Elden Ring is Lukaria soldier armor. All other armor are merely a collection in a backpack. - Great Helm - Lukaria Soldier chest armor - Lordsworn longsword - kite shield Too bad that the armor in the game is more of decoration than actual protection.

Can someone explain why they attacked Carian Manor? Radagpn might have left Rennala but she's still the head of Raya Lucaria, no? Why suddenly attack her former home? Under whose orders? To achieve what?

The Academy's other leaders rebelled against Rennala when they saw that, after Radagon left her, she was " no champion" after all. She was essentially catatonic ever since, which is why Moongrum closed the door on her and kills anyone who tries to get close to the elevator leading up to her. Him and the Red Wolf in the Academy are guarding her from assassination by the mages. The knights followed the Academy's rebellion against Rennala for only one reason; they payed. Rennala, in comparison, was in no condition to discuss their payment. They're mercenaries; it's as simple as that. As such, when they were ordered to march on Caria Manor, they did so.

I think it's just their player character with the wrong sword. They also say that the knights were skilled with magic which is absolutely not the case, since the description for scholars shield mentions the low requirements were because it was part of the Cuckoo's payment.

They didn't, the Cuckoo Knights were hired by Raya Lucaria who turned on the Carians. The cuckoo's were however given free reign to patrol Liurnia as they pleased.

That doesn't make sense that the Carians would employ a army that's basically mercenaries when they had their own army as shown with the Carian Knight in the academy. It's like that they were setting themselves up for failure.

Depends on the size of their own forces, there weren't exactly a whole lot of Carian Knights left. Training a decent number of competent knights would've been difficult for a mage group plus it's better to let mercenaries die without you losing a man of your own, you might probably even weaken an enemy enough to attack yourself after all the mercs get wiped. They just made a bet and they lost.

Carian Royal Knight was an elite force of the Carian royals, usually elite regiment isn't know to be employed on mass. So even though those knights were elites, the Cuckoos probably overcame them through sheer numbers

The Cuckoo served the Academy, not the Carians. Also, the Carian Knights were few in number; only 20 existed at a time.

They weren't employed by the Carians. In Liurnia, there's really three factions of magic users: The academy of Raya Lucaria is the big old academy we all know and love. This is where a council of mages trapped Renalla to further their own goals and hold control over the Carian family. Their combat forces are mostly sorcerers and battlemages. The Carian Royal family has their little home base in Caria Manor near the ruin-strewn precipice. They're led by Ranni, who still seems to hold control over those forces. They're mostly ghosts by now, though we can assume they once had a physical army as we can find at least one Carian (troll) knights in Bohls. The final faction are the Cuckoo knights. They're technically paid by the academy with fancy gear, but they're not directly sworn to the academy and are more so overpaid mercenaries.

The Carians didn't have the Cuckoos; the Academy did. Many years ago, the Queen of the Carians, Rennala, bewitched the leaders of the Academy with her moon. By doing this, she became head of their Academy. When she showed weakness after Radagon left, they turned against her immediately. The Carians and the Academy are enemies. Their unity under Rennala's leadership was always in question.

Because there are criminals among mages, and they are usually very good mages. Mages like Sellen, who's already created several pf those floating stone things you sometimes are unlucky enough to see out of other mages. It's rock paper scissors. Mages know only magic. These guys know a little magic, have shields to protect against magic, and now how to majorly ### up your day.

You contradict yourself. 1st you say they are loyal when the quote from thier armor says they are not labdogs. Then you claim they are skilled in magic when gameplay complety contradicts that. Skilled sorcerers dont need to use glintstone scrap items. And I forget which part of thier kit says it but it implies they are mercenaries who took easy low int spells as payment
