Ooh, I really want to read Genji! My son is horrified that I have not read it yet. How about you lead us in a summer group read (post War and Peace…)? And your airplane story is hysterical! And yay Bourdain!

I almost had Bourdain involved in one of the prompts, but bumped him for Rita :)

Steve I'm highly flattered by your comments. Authenticity and legitimacy are very important to me, so I'm grateful. I love gateway reads cross genre. Most recently was when I read Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress and did so because of the interest in the Chinese Cultural Revolution that the Three Body Problem inspired in me. Great tag and great video

I'll check Art of Fielding out again sometime. I acknowledge it might have been me. It was years ago when I was reading less and had tons of life stuff going on...

I loved Relic. It was a roller coaster read for me many many years ago :)

The airplane turbulence story was hilarious, I also hate flying and happy I don't have to do it regularly anymore. Really appreciate the insight you have on not only books, publishing, editors etc but on booktube channels--I did try to get through an Edwards vid but couldn't get past about 2 minutes. Goodness! At least he admitted it was the worst channel on booktube if only in a false-coy way. Today's takeaway: Irish bog-trotter--definitely putting this currency in my wallet. 😁

That turbulence story was priceless 😂 I hate flying as well, so I have a hard time reading on airplanes because I’m so nervous I can’t concentrate... any little noise takes me out of the book. Which is why I absolutely need page-turners to read on planes, something that will completely suck me in and (somewhat) make me forget that I’m trapped in a giant tube far away from the ground...

Holy cow, a KW Jeter reference!! Is Harrison the first chapter in The Killer Angels? Need to see if there is a copy of Earthly Powers in publication or a good used price. Thanks for the tag, Steve. This is going to be quite a bit of fun. Hope your week is going well! Cheers, Jack

Happy to find you a copy of "Earthly Powers" if you can't!

@@saintdonoghue Thanks, I saw a few copies for around $4, so I’ll have one soon. I enjoyed a few stories from The Devil’s Mode, but it’s been a long time since I read any Burgess outside of Nothing Like the Sun.

@@saintdonoghue found your discussion with a colleague about how much you both love Earthly Powers on Open Letters Monthly, sounds fantastic!

Heard about Neuromancer before getting into reading. It is brough up fairly often when talking about cyberpunk video games and anime/manga. Recently, the book (and gibson) is extensively referenced in Tim Roger's Cyberpunk 2077 review.
