I tried to do exactly what you are doing on the banks of the Ohio River last Monday, but down close to my house on the Kentucky River. Conclusion: Not all rivers are alike. The Kentucky River has a very steep bank in all but a very few places. As I paddled my kayak looking for shallow, sandy beaches (like you walk on the Ohio) in a 2 mile stretch, there just aren't any flat places. If you take 2 steps out off the bank, you are suddenly in 5 feet deep and falling over into even deeper water. Also, the Kentucky River has a minutia of boat traffic stirring up waves. Like, no wave action at all. So, change of plans. I will now be paddling up the shallower feeder creeks looking for cut banks, gravel/rock bars, sandy spots, etc. The Kentucky River just isn't going to yield it's ancient artifacts.
@cleggsadventures Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s all about the location. We have a large creek here that is the same , mostly mud banks you can’t walk. The reason, I think, the Ohio is like this, is that it’s a dammed river and there is hardly any current. Head up the feeder creeks like ya say, and look the gravel bars below the flat ground. Anywhere people may have lived. Gravel bars are slower producing but go slow, may find something
@michaelmcguire5338 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you live near me. P-Ville or C-Town area. Lot's of good stuff on the Ohio. I think I might build me a sifter and try this in the next week or 2. After I get deer hunting out of my system.

I’d say the smaller similar ones were probably 100 years old. The bigger one, maybe from the 1960’s

Scott great video. I really like that scooper sifter. Just curious what you made the basket out of? Will this be your primary tool in the future? Thanks a lot for sharing this Scott. Love your finds.

Thanks Jim. It’s the same screen as the box sifter. I’m going to make a bit smaller one for tight spots

I’m headed to Las Vegas for a 20th anniversary with my infantry unit. Do you know of any locations in the area to look for native artifacts or arrowheads? Thanks great to see another video brother
