Very very interesting and I would like to add that our words, whether typed or not, create images. A thing Native American philosophy says is that movement equals time because without movement there would be no time. The first MoveMent was the beginning of time in this universe or dimension. In my personal opinion, imagination and the languages it produces is the only magic knowable to us. It is the only thing that can seemingly create something out of nothing and our imagination. For example, technology and the languages used to produce it. Religious language and the faith it produces. Legal language and the behaviors and entities it allows or prohibits from being produced. Scientific language and the medicine and death it creates. With our imagination, symbols and matter we are able to create almost anything. What other magic do you want? It’s both true and based on reality. No fiction required with this example of magic.

A very timely discussion. Much appreciated. Over on James Tabor channel he has been running a series by David Wray on early Gnostic astrological iconography which I've found fascinating. All of this is very new to me so I don't know where on the ladder of rigor his work lies but it's worth checking out. I'll take a look at Ofek's course. Thanks again.

Wow Dan. Phenomenal! I met Michael in 2018 at UAC Chicago and his lectures (The Role of Light In Astrology; The Hellenistic Doctrine of the Moon) were amazing. A very warm person as well. Michael's perspective in this podcast is very much where I'm also at (It's kind of freaking me out actually)! Gnosis is the key and, although I can be open to a talismanic approach, isn't the individual body the most obvious talisman? That's the basis of a natal chart... I'm unfortunately not going to be available for the upcoming course on March 17th but am definitely going to look into the self study material. Are you participating in the live course Dan?

Hey Ipsissimus, Thank you kindly for your support, and for your advice on the liquids over on Patreon. That's pretty cool that you've met Michael in the flesh. I have not yet since we live on different continents, but we've met at least a dozen or so times through video calls. Last year I helped Michael out by doing two of the more history-oriented lectures for his course (one lecture on the general history of ancient magic, and one on the textual history of the Picatrix), and I'll be doing that again this year while he handles the more practical side of things. I'm looking forward to it.

"hitting the jackpot with ancient sources" - thats why im here, i think. there r a lot of word constructions many ppl use that make no sense to me. often use quotes n i want to "boil it down" to the "quintessence"...already existing b4 basically everything humans created: "fire"/"light" n "sphere" which is also a "circle" or "zero"/0. truly "mind blowing", if one thinks about it. feels like we r always circling back 2 the basics n that the (hive)Mind is congregating ad infinitum; the Youniverse is pulling a "Benjamin Button". anyway, shalOM/salAM/AMen/P.E.A.C.E. everyone.

Fantastic information exchanged back and forth. Thank you gentlemen. I use the astrological alignments to collect different kinds of waters from the Heavens to the Earth. It's also a great time to use these transits and conjunctions to collect your herbs, your objects, and utilize those waters because they're so powerful. A lot of times most people can't afford the astrological talismans of gold and gemstone jewelry. But they certainly can afford to collect or buy the items to make their own talisman potions ...or collect/buy what they need to utilize in their spell casting during the transits, conjunts, moon phases... I also work to advocate for women and children of domestic violence, and people with disabilities. I utilize these astragal alignments to file documents let's say for example. Or set dates for court or strategy in exposing the abuser...etc...

So, an over emphasis on orthopraxy instead of idiopraxy or participatory practice. Edit: let me clarify, Atrell's comment from the picatrix would be participatory practice. Idiopraxy can be illustrated with a development in Wicca, where drawing down the sun or moon is no longer connected to the gender someone was assigned at birth.
