Retired 18D here. Selection April 89’ grad…In Sept 89’ The Q course was a Phase 1,2,3…then language school..I passed Phase1 which included 1 week Classroom, 1 week survival on your own with 1 live chicken, a knife, canteen, iodine pills, 1poncho, 1 woobie, 50’ 550 cord. You had a bunch of tasks to complete..10 days SUT, probably 5-7days for STAR navigation test… I passed went to Ft Sam for Phase 2 A graduated went to phase 2B ( goat lab)at Bragg . After I finished MOS training about 2 dozen 18Ds got screwed over. SWC changed it from phase 1,2,3 to “Phase 13” combined 1&3 out at Camp Mackall for about 8 weeks. So we 18Ds were all forced to do all the Phase1 training /testing again ( I had a phase 1 completion certificate already) so I did the STAR navigation exam twice and smoked it the second time by like 2 hours..by that time I knew the testing area so well. The instructor thought I cheated.. I told him my/ our story…” you guys got screwed” no shit! True story that was mid 1991! Of course, all the 18D courses never line up with all the other MOSs so we all would end up on the SWC “labor pool” aka the SWC Slave market..GOOD-TIMES, hard men!

Did you ever eat the chicken or just the eggs?

@@LandonStrauss-hc1sc hahaha..I was given a rooster..he died on night#2 of hypothermia so I cooked him on day 3..eggs would have been welcomed..you were required to show the instructor the chicken bones on day 5 end of exercise..as part of your grade.

Im currently training to get ready to SFRE to see if i can go to SFAS. There is nothing else im good in the civilian world. I failed as banker and sales associate and cs jobs. Was in the army reserves and was good as my cbrn job and had a blast doing opfor shit roll over drill dismiunts and training soldiers. Hopefully I'm good enough for SF

I think it's because of how the civilian world thinks and acts. Everything is slowed and dragging. At least that has been my observations and experience. I bet it's why you don't excel in that environment. I'd say good luck, but honestly, I think it will be more like, have fun, because you will enjoy it, even the extreme challenges. You'll rise to the challenge.

@@SocialistDistancing i was always told im not cut out for the corporate world because of how direct or blunt i am and my no bullshit attitude that gets mad when surrounded with lack of common sense or initiative. Even the back peddling or the indirectness from BofA was not good. Dont bullshit me and give me clear directives is what I say

@@JG-yc2fr I completely understand and feel your pain. I have a similar attitude that's gotten me in trouble, mostly for calling it how I see it. People want to be coddled. I'm not that guy. Probably being born into poverty and fighting my way out. I hate BS excuses. I bet you're going to Excel. It's most likely the right fit and you'll be around like minded people. That will make all the difference for you.

@@SocialistDistancing using open door policy gets your nowhere as well when calling shit out like it is. I get people have excuses but shit to coddle someone cause of it is bullshit. When they start going after you they start saying or your not good at the position or give you some ass backwards training that focuses on thier individual agenda oppose to help you succeed. I hope I excel. I wasn't the best reservist but when I knew my job was somewhat important or I had a say in shit even as an e4 it elevated me to not feel like a shit bag and having that high is great knowing you're taken seriously and valued
@SocialistDistancing
@SocialistDistancing Ай бұрын
@@JG-yc2fr well that's it. It's about their selfish agenda, and not the big picture/mission, or goal. Unfortunately, I've been around those types so much that I can pick them out in 5 seconds. They're counter productive and get in the way of productive results. However, when you do get on that , efficient, cohesive team, it's highly motivating. You'll know it when you're there, because you'll feel great about it. I think you're doing the right thing. People aren't going to change, and if you're waiting for them to do something, you'll be waiting a long time. You can't change them, so you have to change yourself, and that's what you are doing. You are seeking out what you need to be successful and a recognized contributor to the goal. You're already motivated to be there, and you've identified what doesn't work for you and what you need. Many never ever figure that out.

Walking down the road during land NAV. That took me back to a particular incident, by a member from another highly respected branch (not naming them), that walked out down the road, alone. WTF? Over! This guy would routinely do stupid shit like this. No sense of where we were or what we were doing. He wasn't the only one either. In my opinion, always be early, and be ready to move/go. The majority of these traits listed in this video, are good work ethics as well. I remember getting back to the real world, and thinking, Holy F*CK. You people really need to sort yourselves out.

Which is a problem with the US milltary today... They want recuits but won't except you if you weight today or even had a chronic illness in your life or have family that was... Like do you want the perfect or just good enough?

The "SOF Truths" were ignored for about a decade in middle of GWOT as Special Forces needed more and more numbers. The standards went way down and crap individuals got to Groups...especially certain protected "groups." Standards have come up some but protected groups get mucho advantages. And there is a massive push to get more females through SFAS. How do you think that is gonna end and destruction of the teams?

Would it not be realistic to keep them at a B level and not A until there were enough of them to create a FET of female Green Berets? I feel you, man. Its not the first time i've heard this. My older brother went through selection with a female he said no one wanted around when the peer eval portion came up and she ended up going through to the Q with him anyway. Dont know how far she made it there, if at all. I dont remember seeing a female at graduation so, im assuming she didnt end up earning the Beret
