Fascinating excerpts, excellent commentary. Thanks for this! To judge from these recordings, orchestral musicians have only improved over the decades. Glaring errors and lack of precision can be heard here, despite conductors of genius. 🙂

Where's Eugene Ormandy ? Two conductors I find extremely overrated are featured, to wit: George Szell & Leonard Bernstein. Pity ! I recall vividly something to BBC did on American orchestras coinciding with the bicentennial of the United States. Ormandy in rehearsal there is seen in all his efficient and idiomatic Glory
