Jarvi has completely changed the way I listen to music, he is an EXCELLENT conductor.

He won't remember me of course, but he was a young man, with long blonde hair, touring with a "provincial" orchestra from Hamilton Ontario when he came to Gravenhurst. I told him I appreciated his father's fine work, but, like a buffoon I had to add to that how much I loved Barbirolli's Sibelius. He was very gracious and smiled and said, "Yes, and his Peer Gynt too is lovely". It's exciting to see him enjoying his career. (I still have a special spot in my heart for Sir John's Sibelius because of the long, broad tempo/phrasing. And I mention it because it was something that really locked me into classical music. It's not false sentiment as "that Hurwitz" - who doesn't understand Sibelius to begin with would argue - it's because it's how Sibelius imagined it, and I know that for sure.

This entire interview is fascinating. Had to laugh at his 🖕 to 🇫🇷 orchestras there at the end haha.
