A captivating documentary about the rituals, myths, and traditions of Indonesia. Written and directed by Andrea Simon, this beautiful film incorporates Old Javanese poetry, sculpture, and music alongside performances by traditional artists and healers. Features exceptional footage of Borobudur, a Buddhist temple from the ninth century, and Prambanan, an important Hindu temple. Cinematography by Jerry Pantzer.
As part of The Met’s 150th anniversary in 2020, each month we will release three to four films from the Museum’s extensive moving-image archive, which comprises over 1,500 films, both made and collected by the Museum, from the 1920s onward. This includes rarely seen artist profiles and documentaries, as well as process films about art-making techniques and behind-the-scenes footage of the Museum.
New films every week: www.metmuseum.org/150/from-th...

I’m Indonesian but not Javanese, but this is so great, would you make some another culture from Indonesia? every island has their own cultural traditions that you can discover!

It would be wrong though to say this is Buddhism or Hindu and separate it. Since it combined Buddhism and hinduism and older indigenous spirits to one phanteon.

The importance of such Teaching tools like this , you do your selves proud. Although it’s a monumental task to put something like this together, it speaks perfectly to all levels of education and age groups. I dream of when more programs like this Are available for the enlightenment of the arts and culture.

@@andreasimon9244 Although these videos are not viral, there is precisely some echt merit and gravitas to it (kinda like unseen brilliant tomes in the dusty shelves of obscure section of UCI library)... the fact these are not tarnished by mainstream makes them even cooler... do know right people will see it! ;)
