As a Balinese, thank you for sharing this video. Fyi, there are still many descendants of majapahit which many of them grouped in clans that started with the name "Arya", like Arya Kenceng, Arya Kepakisan, Arya Kanuruhan etc. But people in Bali never perceive them as a barrier, but to unite our history as we are the last bastion of once a great civilization in southeast asia.

FYI, Javanese Jung is the largest vessel in its time. The largest is estimated to be about 80 meters long and 25 meters wide with dead weight about 2000 tons. It made from teak Woods ( local hard wood) with 3 to 4 layers of plank in the hull, it can easily withstand Portuguese cannon. The ships mainly used a cargo vessels but during Majapahit period it also used as warship and soldiers transport ships. Legend says that the ming dynasty so impressed with the ships they copied the design and made their own version of Jung that is known as Chinese junk used by admiral Cheng ho to spread Chinese influence and domination around southern sea.

Do you know that Philippines History Museum kept the most treasured Majapahit style armor with Kala face sculpture made of metal? We Javanese learnt that Majapahit generals and soldiers wore a kind of armor from ancient manuscripts. Unfortunately, no armors were left intact in Java but surprisingly they were found in almost good condition in Philippines!!! Hope Indonesian historians make some replicas and exhibit them home.

Fun fact : Why the kingdom was called Majapahit? By litetal translation. Majapahit consist of two words, Maja (name of fruit, similar to Quince) and Pahit (Bitter in Indomalayan languages) There are stories that before Mongol fiasco, Raden Wijaya, with very little loyalist and being chased by rivals, was tired and taking a rest by laying ground and eating fruits. He takes the afromentioned Quince, but since it was unripe. It was bitter, so Raden Wijaya spit it. He takes a sip of water, take other quince, and luckily, it was sweet This was seen by his loyalist who was waiting for him. After taking a speech. Raden Wijaya mention his previous experiences about eating the fruit and quoting "may this fruit will remind us our bitter struggle, before we will enjoy it sweetness" That is why he take Majapahit, or Bitter Quince as name his realm. To remind him and his people that we need to overcome the bitterness of life before enjoy it sweetness Now i can't say whether it's historically accurate or not (i just read it in one source). However, i think the morale lesson is spmething we needed

As a Javanese and Indonesian, your research and presentation are unbelievably accurate. Your pronunciation of Indonesian names is very authentic. So many points are spot on and it shows your deep research about the subject. Here are my additions : - the Mongol troops did not only leave gun powder technology in the form of cetbang but also hand held arquebus (primitive gun) called "lantaka". - Ancient Majapahit general and high rank soldiers wore metal armors whose remnants were discovered in the Philippines. None were found in Indonesia. - Majapahit didn't attack Sunda Kingdom by force because West Java is considered the ancestors land / sacred land, where Central and East Javanese kings traced their ancestry. Thank you so much for presenting the underrated ASEAN history in a very interesting way.

There is an epic story behind Majapahit that not many people know (this is from the latest study), There was a Mastermind behind Majapahit's conquest of the Nusantara archipelago, That is Kertanegara's daughter "Gayatri" witnessed her father and her family die at the hands of the rebellion, the woman vowed to unite the Nusantara archipelago (Fulfilling her father's ambition, Because her father failed), then Gayatri marries Raden Wijaya (And became one of the 5 wives of Raden Wijaya), Gayatri has 2 daughters from her marriage to Raden Wijaya, one of them dyah gitarja (Tribuana Tunggadewi), Gayatri wanted to be crowned as a queen, But instead she chose her daughter, because if Gayatri becomes queen After she got rid of Jayanegara (her stepson) then there will be a rebellion... It was Gayatri's revenge and ambition that inspired Gajah Mada, Gayatri was also the one who instigated and educated Gajah Mada to assassinate Jayanegara (Gayatri's stepson) And become a general To swear to conquer the archipelago of Nusantara, Gayatri was also the one who educated and controlled Dyah Gitarja and Hayam Wuruk (Gayatri's grandson) from behind the scenes. When Gayatri died Majapahit went into decline, Gayatri chose to become a bhikkhuni Rather than being queen Until she died, she was also the one who Mastermind behind the murder of jayangara. From her father's ambition Kertanegara, Gayatri made her father's dream come true By doing it behind the scenes as a Mastermind, Gayatri was the one who conquered the archipelago and united it, not gajah mada, gajah mada (gajah It means elephant) was just her mount to make her dream come true.

Despite the current social climate of Indonesia, Majapahit is indeed the "dream" for many Indonesians deep down. Nowdays there's definitely tension between religions and race because of what happened during and after Indonesia's war of independence, but to truly unite that many ethnic and religious group while becoming the masters of the sea is what Indonesia will always strive to do.

@@bilkishchowdhury8318 No. They were promised independence by Japan after the war. But when Japan surrendered in 15 August 1945, the youths forced the forefathers (especially Soekarno and Hatta) to declare independence apart from Japan intervention. They kidnap them to Rengasdengklok and formed the Declaration of Independence, also the National Flag. Although some Japanese offices helped after the declaration of independence on 17 August 1945, i.e. Admiral Maeda of IJN, but those Japanese officers acted as themselves, not as representative of the Japan military government which at that time was non functional after their surrender to the Allies. The previous works with Japan before their surrender helped a lot to build the state foundation: the UUD 1945 (The Indonesia Constitution) and Pancasila (the Five Pillars). The hard work i.e. the meetings, discussions, lobbying, documentation, forming, etc being built but not finalised yet. The state foundation work being finalised by Indonesia government on 18 August 1945. One day after the Declaration of Independence. The Indonesian youths at that time forced the leaders to declare independence rather than waiting, because they were worried about the return of Dutch colonials. Which came true. Netherland Indies Civil Administration (NICA) came along with the British to claim back the Dutch colonial occupation over Netherland Indies (now become Indonesia). You also have to understand that ancient kingdom ini Java called "Medang" once colonized Cambodia, one of the sons of the Cambodian kingdom named Jayawarman II studied in Java, together with one of the greatest Kings of Medang at that time named "Dharanindra" or Rakai Panunggalan. "Rakai" was the title of Greatest King like "Kahn" in the Mongol Empire. At that time, Dharanindra did not like war and preferred to supervise the construction of the Borobudur temple. When there was a rebellion in Cambodia, Jayawarman II was sent by Dharanindra to Cambodia, because he was the son of the Cambodian kingdom which was conquered by Java. After being sent to Cambodia instead of overcoming the rebellion, Jayawarman II instead decided to become "Dewaraja" in the land of his ancestors, then freed himself to rebuild Cambodia and separated from the Medang Kingdom in Java. Therefore, the style of temple construction in Cambodia like Angkor Wat temple etc was heavily influenced by temples in Java, because at that time Jayawarman II participated in seeing the construction of temples in Java.

Yes, true that Cambodia was under Java ruled for quite sometimes, until King Jayavarman II declared independence from Java in the 9th century. This historical records from Khmer and Javanese sources are in alignment with one another, validating to the events that were recorded by both nations. I'm from Cambodia, for decades now, our vulturous neighbor to the west (Thailand) has been relentlessly distorting our history. They claimed and accused Cambodia of "fake" history, and that we never existed as an empire or civilization. Please help to validate our version of history - from those who are trying to distort and eradicate the true history of the ancient Indianized kingdoms of Southeast Asia. If they claimed that we (Kemboja) never existed, then they're implying that the Javanese historical records are a bunch of lies too. So if we never existed - according to their accusation, then who were the ancient Javanese referring to then? I guess according to their logic: The history between ancient Cambodia (Kemboja) and Java were all lies.

Terima kasih sudah membuat video yang menceritakan salah satu sejarah kerajaan terbesar di Indonesia! In fact, the history of Majapahit cannot be separated from Singasari and the kingdoms that existed before. The primary sources for the history of these two kingdoms are the Negarakertagama and Pararaton books. All additions in this comments column are sourced from the narratives of historians who have understood the contents of primary source reading. ((Correction if there is something wrong or missing, let's discuss!) As a little addition, the spirit of uniting the archipelago is actually in Kertanegara, father of Gayatri Rajapatni, grandfather of Dyah Gitarja (Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi). During the succession of kings after the death of Kalagemet (Jayanegara's nickname because he was evil and weak) Gayatri Rajapatni should have ascended the throne, but she refused because she wanted to renounce the world and become a nun. But that doesn't mean she just left Majapahit. She understood that Singasari and Majapahit were built by two equally powerful clans, descendants of Tunggul Ametung and Ranggah Rajasa. It has become a myth that if Singasari was led by only one descendant of the clan, then its power would not last long. Gayatri understands that she is a descendant of only one clan, while her child, Dyah Gitarja, is a descendant of two clans (Gayatri is a descendant of the Kertanegara, Ametung clan, while Dyah Gitarja's father, Dyah Wijaya, is a descendant of the Rajasa clan). Gayatri really understands the historical situation where when two clans side by side led Singasari, when Ranggawuni and Mahisa Campaka led it, Singasari was in a period of peace. So, when she decided to become a nun, she also prepared Dyah Gitarja as Majapahit's successor. She also became a mentor to her own daughter. What she did was then also done by Dyah Gitarja for Hayam Wuruk, so that Hayam Wuruk's vision remains the same as the vision of his mother, grandmother and ancestors in uniting the archipelago. Jayanegara's removal also had something to do with Gajah Mada. He has been the leader of the royal troops since Jayanegara. However, he and Gayatri understood that Jayanegara was not suitable. He is not slandered badly, but is indeed evil and weak. He didn't act wisely like previous kings, instead he loved to tease royal women, no matter whether they were married. One of his many actions was wanting to marry his sisters, Dyah Gitarja and Dyah Wiyat because he didn't want to lose his throne. When Jayanegara was killed by his healer, Ra Tanca, Gajah Mada immediately killed Ra Tanca so that he was considered a "hero" at that time. Gajah Mada then joined Gayatri's plan in choosing Dyah Gitarja. That's why Dyah Gitarja became a successful successor because she was accompanied by Gayatri, her wise and visionary mother as a mentor and Gajah Mada as a reliable and trustworthy commander. That is why after Hayam Wuruk died, Majapahit began to collaps. Because his successor may not be treated the same as Gayatri accompanying Dyah Gitarja and Dyah Gitarja mentoring Hayam Wuruk. The lack of a patih who was like Gajah Mada also turned out to be a problem because the charisma of the other patihs was not the same as Gajah Mada. Ditunggu kembali episode yang membahas tentang Indonesia!

I was very impressed and started studying the history of my ancestors, after I met many descendants of the Majapahit kings in East Java, it was very impressive that they preferred to be commoners who worked hard and chose to live without luxury, keeping their ancestral genealogy tightly closed (they still have complete genealogical records their ancestors), and they focus on being a good and simple Muslim. Many people don't recognize them and look down on them when they meet them because of their simple lives, but I'm impressed, they never reply and instead pray for the people who insult them.

The ancient history of the world is dominated by stories of the greatness of the Romans, Greeks, Egyptians and Mongols. in fact, from the 3rd to the 8th centuries there were astonishing monuments built in Indonesia... with great artistic details... which were born from a very intelligent and high culture... just look at the temples of Borubudur, Prambanan, Pawon, and hundreds of others... where in At that time, most of European society was still under Roman rule and lived in slums. These great monuments can be compared to even more complicated than contemporary temples such as Roman temples, Greek temples such as the Colosseum, and others. The Majapahit Kingdom was the peak of civilizational achievements that occurred in Southeast Asia at that time... (12th to 14th centuries) before the western nations came amidst its collapse.. The Majapahit kingdom has practiced tolerance between religious communities, which is a philosophical achievement that is very rare in other civilizations throughout the world. The influence of this great empire is still felt today throughout Southeast Asia... its influence in this region is even further than the Roman Empire (6,000 to 8,000 miles).. Unfortunately the Majapahit kingdom had to collapse just like other ancient civilizations in the world such as Greece, Rome, Mongols and others.

Indians, don't really care about empires, though we have had some great ones like Maurya Empire (which Ashoka was part of and his grand-dad defeated Greeks and united many small kingdoms of India). We've have our Priniciples entact. like a king is only be praise worthy when he follows Raj-Dharma. If a king attacks his neighbouring Kingdom and killed childrens, women, elderly and common people, then his own people will reject him. In short, principles were forced on the king to follow, not the other way around. For us the Only King worthy of Praise is Lord Ram. We respect Buddha but don't workship him, because rejected his duty to his kingdom, to his wife and childrens. That's why in India there is a rule that you can't take Sanyas from life unless your parents approve of this. Ashoka is called chadaal (the person whose occupation is burn the dead). So, no one likes him. As he killed his 100 brothers to take the throne.

The meaning of this glory was also expressed when in 1289 AD, a delegation of Kublai Khan, the Great Khan from the Yuan Dynasty of the Mongol-Chinese Empire, namely Men Shi or Meng-qi (孟琪), had tattooed by king Kertanegara on his forehead with a hot iron with the mark of a thief, his face was injured and his ears were cut off, and expelled. _''Tell your Emperor that Singhasari does not want to be colonized by the Mongols''_ Kertanegara was reluctant to submit to Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan.

Penjelajah misionaris asal Venesia, Odorico Mattiussi da Pordenone mengunjungi Jawa tahun 1321 waktu pemerintahan Jayanagara.

Prabu Kertanegara punya kuasa yg sama 2. Mungkin sedang mabuk arak.

There is an epic story behind Majapahit that not many people know (this is from the latest study), There was a Mastermind behind Majapahit's conquest of the Nusantara archipelago. That is Kertanegara's daughter "Gayatri" witnessed her father and her family die at the hands of the rebellion, the woman vowed to unite the Nusantara archipelago (Fulfilling her father's ambition, Because her father failed), then Gayatri marries Raden Wijaya (And became one of the 5 wives of Raden Wijaya), Gayatri has 2 daughters from her marriage to Raden Wijaya, one of them dyah gitarja (Tribuana Tunggadewi), Gayatri wanted to be crowned as a queen, But instead she chose her daughter, because if Gayatri becomes queen After she got rid of Jayanegara (her stepson) then there will be a rebellion... From her father's ambition Kertanegara, Gayatri made her father's dream come true By doing it behind the scenes as a Mastermind, Gayatri was the one who conquered the archipelago and united it, not gajah mada, gajah mada (gajah It means elephant) was just her mount to make her dream come true.

its an honor that my nation history to be discused in this channel. and i want to add little part to the amazing culturally diverse history of our nation: The first islamic kingdom in java, its called Demak Kingdom and the first king of Demak is Raden Patah. Raden Patah was the biological son of the last king of the majapahit Brawijaya V. what i said that its not Demak that conquer or destroy the kingdom of Majapahit but it was Demak that succeded the kingdom of Majapahit because Raden Patah was the legitimate heir to Majapahit kingdom. the late king of majapahit,Brawijaya V ,its known as Monk-King so at old age he choose to abdicate his throne and give it to raden patah so he can depart to his long awaited asceticsm. There is no war at the transition of the hindu-budhist era to islamic era in indonesian history. Many account said that the aggresion of Demak that destroyed the kingdom of Majapahit, but in fact it was Raden Patah who save his father,Brawijaya V from the revolt that launched from the client kingdom of kediri whom at that time occupied the Majapahit capital of Trowulan and held Brawijaya V as prisoner.

The way Majapahit navy used the cetbang cannons were unlike the more modern European navy which placed them semi permanently at the cannon windows at the side of the ship. A cetbang can be quickly disassembled, carried and operated by only two people and can be placed strategically at any part of the ship. Their main function is, instead of attacking enemy's hull, they will first attack enemy's deck and sail from close range when both ships are next to each other, to both render their ship immobile and provide preliminary assault. Then after that they can either deploy the navy troops or just continue with bombarding the ship's hull until it sinks. This assault tactics proved to be so effective the Majapahit navy were unbeatable for more than 200 years, not even the mighty Mongolian empire were able to challenge them at the time.

A bit addition here, Kertanegara is almost never referred as Buddhist, but rather as a Hindu since the Singhasari Kingdom itself was mostly Hindu since its beginning, and he was also famous to practice the Tantric rituals. The truth is Hinduism-Buddhism syncretism occured very often throughout ancient Javanese kingdoms, and that was what happened in Kertanegara's case.
