OH MY GOSH! "Enchanted Scepters" led me to the "World Builder" program for the Mac! I remembered playing games made by that on my old Apple Macintosh LC II back in the day but could never find them, nor even know what to look under. One second of seeing the graphics for "EC" from the book was all that I needed. Thanks, PUR! Great video, too! Love the point and click. :)

I remember back then, point and click adventures (and even the ones where you had to type out the commands) felt like virtual reality to me, as crazy as that sounds. There was an illusion that you could practically "do anything," because you could interact with your environment in ways that Mario and Duckhunt wouldn't let you. Leisure Suit Larry was probably the first one I played, and I was blown away. Of course I couldn't get far in the game, since I had no clue what to do. I just remember messing around in that bar.

Great channel! So glad to have found it. Your knowledge and humor are refreshing and it's nice to hear someone covering this genre. I wonder if you have ever played the Ripley's Believe it Or Not: Riddle of Master Liu game???? It was a pretty cool FMV adventure game, which I never was able to beat! Damn!! This genre I enjoyed watching others play when young. I wish the genre were replicated more akin to its past era than the HOG style ones of Steam...

Pretty pretty! I've been waiting years on the Art of Sierra book, and now there's this more generalized one, which I also want. I wonder if they will have much the same content? The Sierra guys were hunting down the original artwork to make modern prints of, so will be much more detailed then 320x480 - unfortunately they haven't updated in awhile.

I'm so glad you mentioned King's Quest 3 in particular, especially that it is one of your favorites. To me, it remains one of my favorite games of all time (partly from the age I played it I guess) because of the fantastic design elements revolving around the magic book, and having to collect the elements to make the spells, all while keeping it secret from Manannan, and trying to figure out your own true identity! Divine. :) It doesn't get mentioned much, so it was great to hear someone else list it as a favorite. :) I'd love to hear more in-depth info about it from Roberta Williams one day (I'd love to interview her about it!), but I kinda doubt she's that excited about spending her time on such things, sadly!
@muzboz6 жыл бұрын
It seems a bit silly for the text on the KQ3 page to list "interconnected screens as looping around" as being a KQ3 innovation, seeing as that was there from KQ1 and KQ2 as well! Seems like they just read that on a wiki or forum somewhere, and regurgitated it without actually considering its voracity. Not quite what you want from a historical text like this! :) But no biggy. I guess the real leap forward for KQ3 was that the story actually felt more structured than the hotch-potch nature of KQ1 and KQ2 (although KQ3 did continue the fairy tale mashup formula to a large extent as well). I always enjoyed how the games lent from myth and fairytale, as it provided a good framework for expectations and prior knowledge that the audience could bring to the games. I keep finding myself drawn back to KQ3, ruminating on why I liked it so much. I think I liked that it actually felt like an interactive theatre piece, with you in it playing a role - seeing as Manannan worked on a clock, and it felt like the story was ticking forwards on it's own, which felt revolutionary at the time, and indeed is still something rarely actually used in game world pacing systems. I also liked that the game's themes (bossy old Manannan ordering you around, and punishing you for things he deemed inappropriate) resonated really well for a youngster playing the game, as a kind of heightened "scared of getting in trouble from your parents" myth. :)

I'll basically make the same comment I make every time, but it's sad not to see Hollywood Monsters get some recognition, one of the favourite point and click games of anybody who played it! I know it had cartoon style graphics rather than pixel art, and it was only released in Spain and Italy, but still.
@fermintenava59116 жыл бұрын
Do you speak of that game by Pendulo Studios? I only played he sequel "The Next Best Thing", which got a wider release. It was decent.
@KombatGod6 жыл бұрын
@@fermintenava5911 exactly. I own the sequel as well but I never got around to play it. The original is a game in the style of Monkey Island, with that kind of humor, the same gameplay and no game over state. Also the graphics is in the style of MI3. Its biggest flaw is its moon logic at some points, but aside from that it's pretty good, and it's a very large game with a lot of locations around the world you can visit, much like in Zak McCracken. Actually it's funny because some inventory puzzles make little sense because of that, for example if you need a stick in Transylvania, you might have to find the one interactive stick you can pick up in Switzerland. Point and click adventure game logic.
@MagusMarquillin6 жыл бұрын
Does it have an English translation, or just Spanish and Italian? Yeah, it'd be nice if they exposed some game art most gamers aren't likely to see because of limited release/language barrier (there's a whole lot of German adventure games I'd like to learn German with one day). But we also want to enshrine or favorites.
@KombatGod6 жыл бұрын
@@MagusMarquillin I think there's a patch online for English subtitles. On YT you can also find the first 10 minutes or so of the game fully dubbed in english, which apparently is from a version that never got released or something like that... it's weird, my guess is it was a demo made to show to potential interantional distributors, but idk. Either way you can check that out to get an idea of the game.

PushingUpRoses, has anyone ever recommended Cat Lady to you? It's grim, it's a point and click adventure made in 2012, but it feels and looks like something from the 90s, and it has a couple ridiculous puzzles (just like the games of the 90s). I couldn't find it on your videos, but I haven't watched them all yet. Also if it's been recommended to you before, sorry for the repeat.
