I'm naturally a stop & popper, but didn't even know it until now, and that's playing high school, college & tons of adult tennis. Thanks to you, I have a better understanding & know it will help my students dramatically, and that's not an exaggeration. Amazing

I've found stop and pop most useful on returns and kick serves. Thank you for this series. I'm going to implement this in my coaching.

I have played tennis for many years and watched many videos about tennis but never ever heard of S&P. This will take my tennis to the nxt lvl.

Hey Coach Steven, hope youre fine :). Thanks for this stop and pop videos. Thats a crazy training method to develop a good clean contact point. I had so much trouble on my forehand to find the right contact point. I changed grips and everything. But the stop and pop method helped me very quickly to focus on the right feeling and i could not only feel a result..the swing before the contact...improved as well. it worked also on my serve. i found out that i tossed the ball to much away from my contact point and that its much higher as i thought. One more thing was..the relaxation of my muscles during the swing. I stopped playing tennis for years, and when i came back to tennis...i had to close a lot of technical wholes in my game. But i remember from earlier days that i used this stop and pop instictively but never thought that this is such a technical boost. Ladies and Gentlemen...this Stop and Pop method is the real deal. Props for Coach Steven!!! What about a drop shot video? My dropshots on the forehands suck. Or how to keep the rythm when the oppenent starts to destroy your rythm by short slices, spins and heights. For example i have a good training partner..and the only way he beat me..is to change rythm. I make a lot of errors when i try to play incoming low shorter slices, I like to attack these slices but i make a lot of errors even when my footwork is good on the ball but i cant bring the velocity of my body and my swing clean to the contact point. Could be a wrong knee bend the problem? Linked to this problem i often ask myself why i am so lazy on my feet. I would say my body is physically strong and i got great flexibility but i am very lazy on the court. The last 3 months i try to relax a lot when i am playing becasue in matches i tend to tense up and play under my level. But everytime i am in a very dangerous defensive position i still tense up, for example those shots (passing shots) where you could apply the stop and pop. My question is...how can i train...relax at this moment as much as possible to play strong fluid spinful shot? Sorry Coach Steven I wrote a lot..but i am super motivated since you helped out with the stuff you bring on the channel. Thanks man!

Glad this helped! There’s a lot here and harder to see what the issue is w out watching you play... some very simplistic suggestions - for losing rhythm, are you hitting your split steps on time? If you’re late on splits you’ll be rushing to the ball and off rhythm even if you’re fast. Also for the higher pressure shots like short balls and passes, is it an ability issue or mental issue? It’s it’s the latter I did a vid on mentality for passing shots as many players get tight and put too much pressure on themselves

S&P is amazing! Accuracy greatly improved! Should I ever take a full swing again?

S&P helps knowing THE contact point and prevent blind racket swinging.

I had come to the realization I can't do a full swing on every FH and BH in order to get pass the serve + 1 and return + 1 and was wondering what kind of adjustments to my swing I had to make. I think full/light S&P makes a lot of sense.

Im an S&p aholic now! Changed my game easily 20% better! On every facet of my game. Returns, bh, fh. Control is so much improved, was struggling and this series has helped in so many ways!

Yes, recently i do practice with this punching action. It help return of serve alot..😉😉 but i need to increase my swingweight more 10 grams or so. In order to easily redirect the heavy ball

Stop & Pop actually works - you just focus on the racquet face being at the right position at the point of contact instead of focusing on the big full swing - your consistency will improve considerably - focus on “popping” the ball! Thanks Coach.

Hey Steven, the recoil thing doesn't make much sense to me at first then I happened to watch Ivan Lendl's forehand, I tried to imitate his technique, there is clearly a stop and pop and short follow through in his forehand. The power and control both increased dramatically. And my hand doesn't feel weak when I was hitting a running forehand. I strongly recommend you put a video analyzing Lendl's forehand.
@15PointsOfTennis5 жыл бұрын
Great analysis! I’ll have to go back and take a closer look but the recoil was meant to be more for drilling and only occasional use in matches. Glad the stop and pop is working for you... IMO at first you’ll get more power due to the refined contact point, but once you get that perfect, you’ll swing through for more racquet speed and hit even harder.

Great stuff. You found the perfect example of the stop and pop service motion in Sampras. And Nadal with his signature hook forehand, which he uses more often than not, is kind of a version of the stop and pop?
@15PointsOfTennis5 жыл бұрын
I think so... esp for the players who generate insane rotation, momentum, etc there’s gotta be some counter to prevent them from even throwing themselves off balance or spinning out of control... it would seem almost every shot has a stop and pop element even if it’s to a minuscule degree

Hi Coach. Your S&P series is great. I've really been enjoying experimenting with it. I use two hands on both sides so it feels quite easy and natural. I have a silly question. Do you think the technique is easier with a light racquet or a heavier racquet with lots of plow through? Just curious.
@15PointsOfTennis4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching.. totally legit question. I’ll do an opinionated video on racquets later but the heavy racquets take more strength for sure. I think heavy is better for deflecting and using pace, and actually with two hands and being on the smaller side, there’s more mass to really lay into the ball. The big guys can sometimes go lighter because they already have more body mass. But for a still ball, lighter racquets can generate more speed in the tip with a smaller swing, but heavier racquets can get speed and mass with a bigger swing. Ultimately, I think it depends on strength and play style. Hope that helps.

can someone tell me what in the world is stop and pop? Is it using the rebound force of coming to a stop or recoil and explode through the ball?
@user-jv9qz2bu1r5 жыл бұрын
you need to explain WTH you mean by stop and pop in the first 30 seconds. I am at the 4.5 minute mark and I am losing patience. I know how to slice very well but the term pop and stop means nothing to me. That 2005 Semi match BTW is one of my favorites. Very clean hitting and good match to study.
@chensien755 жыл бұрын
Sampras’s got an extremely heavy frame and it’s only 85 sq in, therefore he doesn’t have to swing through to get that pace!
@twinwankel5 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about the serve S&P. It’s more of the wrist pronation that tops the kicker. You can either stop the pronation on the same side or continue through to other side. It’s a personal preference and I don’t see the advantage either way. Fed and Thiem have great kickers and they continue through as opposed to Sampras.
