Thank you SO much for organizing your colors! As an artist and a quilter, the chaos of "just put anything together" does not appeal to me. I know many like the jumble but I find it unsettling. Your "colorwash" version feels joyous, yet soothing to my artist brain!

That is so pretty, this is "MY" kind of scrappy. I'm not a "random" fabrics touching other "random" fabrics because sometimes it just does not look good (to me) - so doing a colorwash with "random" scraps is an awesome idea.

A beautiful quilt top. Just a thought - I think it would be a time saver to not cut the pieces apart after round one. I would leave them sewn together and then sew the matching sides in round 2 and then cut them apart. Also saves time when it comes to ironing the seams.

Thank you so much. I love this quilt. And…I make quilts out of men’s dress shirts. When I cut them down into fabric, I’ve been saving all the fabric I can - even the button plackets, which usually wind up being a long strip of 1” to 1.5” of usable fabric. So now I have a definite purpose for these scraps :) Idk how long it’ll take me to make this quilt out of them, but I’ve already started cutting out strips and pieces for the blocks. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful ideas. I love your videos.

Love this! I wonder if the ratio of square to strip makes a big difference? They seem very nicely balanced at this size (3" block to 1" strip). If I were doing 5" blocks, I'd think about how wide the strip should be to keep the ratio. For a 5" block the exact width would be 1.6", but going with a 1.5" strip might be easier and still give you a sense of balance? Will definitely give this a try!
@revelationquilts25 күн бұрын
Personally if I made one with 5” squares I would still use a 1” strip. The beauty of using a 1” strip is that with the 1/4” seam allowance, the square ends up back to its original size. Otherwise you’d have to trim them down back to 5”. But use what you have handy & try not to overthink it. Try a couple test blocks to see what you like.

@@revelationquilts thanks for this. I'll give it a try!

Could this be done with jelly rolls with the added one inch strip in the center? Making the cutting size 5 inches? In my mind that would make it “grow” faster. Just my mind wandering. Thanks for all your great videos!

Very nice. I made a quilt similar to this but I kept them in a chain, started back at the beginning and then cut them all at once and ironed all at once. Seems a lot slower how you did it.
@revelationquilts11 күн бұрын
Thanks for weighing in. You didn't iron the strip after the first round (before you sewed the second piece on)? It seems you would have to bend the 1" strip back to sew it on the second 1.5" x 3" anyway. I enjoyed the process of how I did it, but to each their own.
@poodlegirl5511 күн бұрын
@@revelationquilts Hard to explain but I actually turn the second stack over and sew from the last one up and have the bigger fabric on the top. Luckily we are not all exactly alike, that would be boring. Your second design was really fabulous, I'm going to remember that next time I sew scraps together.

Waves hello from Winnemucca. If a person uses a bigger square does the center strip get wider???????
@revelationquilts25 күн бұрын
I don't think so; I might go up to 1.5" strips, but the bigger the strip, the more you have to trim down the square at the end.
