🌟 Here is a summary. Thank me later, you got this! 🎬 Introduction: • Focus: Emphasizing the importance of sound over visuals in storytelling. • Goal: To show how sound effects bring films to life and evoke emotions that visuals alone cannot. 🎨 The Power of Sound: • Emotional Impact: Sound effects can dramatically enhance the viewer’s emotional response. • Example: A drone shot of a temple with and without sound illustrates the significant difference sound design makes. 🛠 Practical Sound Design Tips: 1. Start with Atmosphere: • Begin by adding ambient sounds such as wind, ocean waves, and city traffic to set the scene. • Match ambient sounds to the environment (e.g., wind and waves for ocean shots, forest sounds for wooded areas). 2. Focus on Key Subjects: • Identify the main subject of each scene and base sound design around it. • Example: For an elephant statue, use elephant sound effects; for waves crashing, use ocean sounds. 3. Layering and Limiting: • Avoid overloading the scene with too many sounds. Typically, use no more than three sound effects per scene. • Sometimes one well-chosen sound effect can suffice. 4. Dynamic Movement: • Adding sounds to dynamic actions requires precision and perfect timing. • Use subtle sounds and ensure they are perfectly synchronized with the visual movements. 5. Volume and Clarity: • Ensure sound effects are loud enough to be heard clearly, even on devices with low volume settings. • Edit sound at 60-70% volume to ensure it is audible for most viewers. 🎧 Advanced Techniques: • Organization: • Keep your sound effect library organized to avoid repetitive downloading and improve workflow efficiency. • Creative Substitutions: • Use unconventional sounds to create desired effects (e.g., a door slam for a skateboard landing). • Vary sound effects to maintain interest and avoid repetition. 📝 Additional Tips: • Smooth Transitions: • Use techniques like constant power fades to create smooth audio transitions. • Practice and Patience: • Sound design is a skill that takes time and practice to master. Avoid making sounds too loud or inappropriate for the scene. • Less is More: • Resist the urge to overdo it. Effective sound design often relies on subtlety and appropriateness rather than quantity. 🎬 Conclusion: • Importance: Sound design enhances storytelling and viewer engagement. • Encouragement: Keep practicing, experimenting, and refining your sound design skills for the best results.

I'm in the process of creating a KZbin channel and while editing my first video I was getting caught up with finding the right music and audio for my intro. All of this lead me down the rabbit hole of sound design and this was the most impactful one I've watched. I loved how you did a lot more showing than telling, with clips like the temple. Showing how much value and atmosphere sound made to what would otherwise be an uninteresting clip. Absolutely fantastic video!

i was on a video about the remaster of AOE2, many nostalgic fanboys say the og are better , while i replied the og were clumsily composed with weird sororities and the new ones were more medieval sounding, and then there's an idiotic guy who came to annoy me . he said that just cause he's a "composer" the og would be made with better talent, which is just plain stupid. he don't tell us how for which studio he worked so i assume he passed himself for a troll with a big vocabulary, with technical words. if he was a composer , he's then incapable to distinguish his own style to decent instrumentation. this was enough for him to get thumbs by naive fanboys. that's why i despise audio designers since then. i dunno why i tell you this but it's very present on my mind.

So helpful man ! I would like to ask you what levels of db you using for sound effects and for the music? Because i have the same problem as you said that people are not recognised the SFX in the videos bcs its too low. I try to use like -6db for music a -3 for SFX but still its not a result i like. Thanks!
@DreamDuoFilms4 жыл бұрын
Usually we tone it down to -5 or -10 db for most SFX, however, sometimes you dont have to do anything to the levels. Its soo hard to explain, I'd reconmend editing your videos on 60-70% of the value and then check it on the phone after rendering it to see whether you can notice the sound effects or not (on phones also try to listen to it at around 60-70% volume) 😊 Its that kind of a thing where you jusy get used to it and then will be able to do it naturally without any problems
