They dont just swing around randomly, or they’ll easily get killed. This can be accurate, but not in the modern world, because who even have a sword in their house and practice?

@tobiashartl27595 жыл бұрын
@Bacons Strip Then you must have watched the wrong videos, my friend ^^. The thing with Hema is that since it is a pretty much unregulated activity everyone can do it and publish their fencing no matter whether they have any idea about body mechanics or not. In addition to that the still young "high level" tournament scene in HEMA is pretty much the only context where you will see people training for explosivity and speed. A Fencer focusing on reconstriction, as many are, will often not really care how fast or strong or structurally sound his moves are. There is a big divide in differing skill in HEMA and I understand it can be offputting for someone who has much experience with a similar but solely competitive activity. :D Addendum: I'd suggest watching some of Martin Fabian's content on KZbin. It's pretty well produced at least.

Starwars episode 1-3 have much better fight choreography, then episodes 7-8
@TheJoKeR79916 жыл бұрын
Prequels fights were flashy and resembled dancing more than the actual fights. Although enjoyable and cool to watch, they lacked any tension (also Anakin vs. Dooku scene in Attack of the Clones is beyond terrible, easily worst fight in all Star Wars). I think episodes 5-8 duels are better, because they feel more like fights. Completley unrealistic with lots of unnecesary moves still, but they feel more visceral and heavy than prequel duels, fighters get tired, when they get hurt it feels like they actually get hurt. And episodes 5-8 duels have great and atmospheric settings and great visuals and camera work.
@mintyfresh48556 жыл бұрын
I don't like the new star wars fight scenes at all. They make saber fights look like they're fighting with steel swords. These are lightsabers. They are "lightweight". 5-8 make it seem like they're fighting with longswords. The prequels were better in that sense because they were fighting very fast.......as they should.
@mintyfresh48556 жыл бұрын
I mean Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon had faster choreographies than a light saber duel in the new Star Wars trilogy. That is sad and disappointing.
@TheJoKeR79916 жыл бұрын
But lightsabers are not that lightweight. According to various sources, their weight is actually very simillar to a standard steel sword. Of course it depends on the story and author, but Lucas originally intended them to weight this much. So episodes 5-8 fight scenes make perfect sense. Also, old fashioned longsword fights are so much cooler and visceral and exciting than glorified glow stick dances shown in the prequels.
@TheJoKeR79916 жыл бұрын
And also, movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or Hero pull off this dance-like fight scenes masterfully. They're are just so beautifull to look at, so amazingly choreographed. I know prequels wanted to go in similar direction in their fights, but failed miserably. Prequels choreography is just boring and unimaginative compered to "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" for example. It's not tense, it's not cool to look at, it's not creative, it's nothing at all, just people waving glow sticks, zero excitment.

This video really captures the beauty and the majesty that comes with sword fighting. For those who understand, the sword is more than a weapon. It is an extension of oneself, it represents a choice of when to draw it and when to sheath it, when to pick it up and when to put it down. Sword fighting is more than fighting, it is speaking. The way someone fights tells you a bit about them, the clashing of steel is the clashing of pride, heart, and mind. Awesome video, I hope you do more like them and better.
