I had issues understanding how the changes in the radar elevation works, this video made it really easy to understand. I did not know the allidate range position actually affected the scan elevation Quick info on the bar scan. IIRC the Radar scans like 1. ---------> 3. ---------> 2.

Thanks! Hope you are swatting those MiGs from the sky! Yes you are correct; detecting an echo in one direction of sweep but not the other can give you some indication as its elevation - left to right detection only means the target is above and right to left, it is below. The Mirage F1's four bar scan pattern is unusual like that; it spirals downwards rather than the more-common back-and-forth "ladder" pattern.

Glad you are back to my beloved Mirage F1! Great video after so long just learned about the D function on the elevation control of the radar!

Yeah, been buried with IRL work but finally managed to get caught up! Hope you enjoyed the video.

Important clarification needed regarding the elevation. The numbers are always in thousands of feet whether you are in "E" mode or "D" mode. They are never in degrees.
@reiver1-14 ай бұрын
Perhaps I didn't explain that clearly but I do state that the numbers represent the altitude difference whether in D or E mode. With the alidade set to 10 nm, the number in E mode gives a good approximation of the angle in degrees (as well as the altitude difference), given the bracket of altitudes the radar's scan cone will be covering, which can be confirmed with the inverse tangent trigonometric function. This is obviously a useful rule-of-thumb feature. 👍

Such a shame that she doesn't have IFF :(. Makes BVR capability useless in many DCS online situations.

@@reiver1-1 yeah ok, it can be used if you have GCI on or if the server comes with very regular EWR picture. If not, then you simply can't ID the target BVR.
