Im actually starting a business this making sculptures of families and people. Im a stone sculptor, but Im using a mixture of 3d printing and mold making to make it viable. My intent is to make affordable sculptures. Bronzes like that are 5-10k. Im hoping to sell for more like 1k or less. Wish me luck!

Rough estimate for someone in the US to have this done is around $6300. Not to mention the cost of travel to and from their studios along with a short stay in Britain.

About the tattoo, I wholeheartedly agree with you, Adam. I wanted to get a tattoo of my pup, but before that I committed a portrait of my pup to a professional. You know what? I asked for refund 😅 I know my dog too well, that was just a dog that resembled him. Imagine a tattoo you can't erase! I hope Pierre can come to you, so you can have a beautiful art piece of your beloved dog. Unfortunately, my pup recently passed away. I would be so happy to have a miniature statue of him. I can't, but you can! Fingers crossed

If you knew how much time goes into a custom portrait you’d know how much of an a-hole move asking for a refund is for that reason.

@gpaull2 if my comment triggered you is not my fault. Call an a-hole a person you don't even know? The a-hole is the ""artist"" who didn't know how to do a portrait and scammed me. Not only it was a generic dog, but it also lacked of proportion and volumes. That was not a professional and not even a beginner. It was horrible. Why do you assume I don't know how much time goes into a custom portrait? I know very well how much time and effort it takes to make a portrait. If you are not able to do something, don't make people pay hundreds of dollars for something you are not capable of. It's that simple. Imagine going to a doctor and ask for advice, you pay him $200 and he gives you the wrong therapy because he doesn't know what is causing your illness but he'd rather make you pay instead of admitting that he doesn't know. "if you'd know how much time it took to become a doctor, you wouldn't be so upset and ask for refund".

@gpaull2 Why do you assume I don't know how much time and effort it takes to make a portrait, and why do you think that because you put effort and time in it you can make a crappy "portrait" and is somewhat unethical to ask for a refund? I know very well what it takes. And it's not 1 hour. The reason I asked for a refund is very simple. I asked him to make a realistic portrait of my dog, but he didn't. It was a generic, poorly made dog, just resembling him. Wrong proportions, wrong volumes. Simply put, a deformed unknown dog. The "artist" did the a-hole move, not me. Don't pretend to be a professional artist and ask hundreds of dollars for a small portrait, if you can't do it. Btw, I wasn't the only one who got scammed by him. He was later banned from the platform.

I've been collecting greyhound hood ornaments for years, and today have 10 or 12 very different examples. They're a (relatively) affordable way to celebrate the speed and elegance of the grey - and dabble in the world of antiques - but without the expense of commissioning a bespoke sculpture. Condolences on losing your nephew's dog - we're on our fifth, and each one is a truly amazing dog.

If the subject has to be scanned, how would you be able to scan if they are no longer with us? If i download polyscan3d and send you that file, would you be able to create a sculpture with that?

If you only have random photographs and the subject is no longer available for a scan, I think you're just looking for a different service. As I understand this presentation, the thing that these guys bring to the experience is the ability to start with a 3d scan, which can speed a lot of the initial construction of the final model. Still not cheap, but the most expensive part is the skilled artists and they only have to spend their time doing the true value-added part in the latter part of the work instead of all the boring stuff leading up to it (i.e. the same kinds of productivity gains technology has always offered, reducing tedium in a process and allowing the human to do more of the stuff humans are good at). But you can only do that tech-supported part if you have a way to do the 3d scan in the first place. If you don't, you can still get the sculpture you want, but it will require paying the artist to do all the tedious stuff too. A good artist can take several unrelated photographs of the same subject and develop an accurate sculpture, using their own artistic skill and experience to interpolate the elements that the photos don't show. But it will mean that person has to do the whole thing from the ground up. Paying for the skilled labor involved in that part is, I assume, going to be more expensive than having technology do it. You can get the same result, but it will cost more.
