"if all lines are wonky, none of them are wonky." Words of wisdom right there, and not just for brush pens.

I never thought about usjng water brushes like that.. Bristle ink brushes here are all imported so they are expensive. U just saved me a lot of money. You are part of the reason why I started doing traditional art too a year back. I can't thank you enough :)

I tried using this type of pen 2 years ago, demoralized by the tests I did at the time I no longer used it, putting it aside, after this video I really think I will use it again. Chroma thank you so much for this video.
@kierhudson132811 ай бұрын
Just use it alongside your caligraphy pen or whatever you use, I play around with allsorts and never take things too seriously until I want to, very important to not get drawing block, just take a time out, have coffee play with another toy, Ive been using a kebab skewer, paint brush, caligraphy pen, some inks some charcoal, enjoy what you do, thats important.

Thanks for your very good "Brush Pen 101". I have purchased several sets of Micron pens and they come with a brush pen. I shied away from using that instrument because I figured it required more control than what I could muster up. Your 'How To Draw With A Brush pen' gave me the motivation to start using it. Thank you.

Good advice for beginners of an elite medium. I love drawing in brush pen and it took years to build up the confidence to work with one, period, let alone start my journey to competence with such an expressive medium. My suggestion is go in the deep end and see if you like what brush pen offers you as potential application for your own drawing practice before spending money on products without watching good reviews like this, even of specific products you’re thinking of purchasing. It’s not for everyone. If you’re a control freak, you will not be able to emotionally handle how permanent and unrelenting this medium is at first. But it increases your visualization skills by so much to have to try and visualize a line fully before you draw it.
@AmyHancock-m5f25 күн бұрын
In this sense its a good way to improve and humble an artist. If someone decides to pick this up, baring in mind having to visualise and imagine the line and draw it exactly as such if one perseveres with that its probably one of the most important skills of an artist and its overlooked

One thing I personally ran into as a noob (and which I think may be somewhat common, especially for those with no formal training) was thinking that the lines from comics and manga which a dip or fountain pen produce are made using a brush pen, as fineliners are incapable of much variation without breaking them. And then there's this frustration that occurs when one can't get these smooth, tapering, thin lines, but instead get the blobby blocky look of a novice's brushwork. I think this may be from a perspective problem: Brush pens are sold in the "drawing" section of art supply stores, while dip pens are in the "calligraphy" section, and fountain pens are at stationary shops. Digital art tools also calls anything with line variation a "brush." The term "G pen" is difficult to find much info on in English without digging too hard, so while some art programs use it for brushes meant to approximate an actual G pen, the fact it's a real physical tool becomes missed.

Great humor too, I really enjoyed it May I be bold and suggest adding some soft fabrics to the room you are recording in? You have a great microphone but that has the drawback of picking up a lot of reflected sound too haha

I'm not a skilled drawer, but I actually thoroughly enjoy brush pens because it kinda goes against all the rules. It's chaotic and helps me go into a mindset where I'm not trying to be a perfectionist. I just let whatever I'm observing and drawing form itself as it does. Thanks for sharing tips! Hopefully I can improve but I'm having funny anyways.

Also as i watched we have the same warm ups, i do ghost strokes and such but ill do a sheet of circles and straight lines too, connecting them using ghost strokes and line weight until i get a perfect straight line (if this makes sense) I have adhd so if i go straight into drawing i rush and these warmups just put some patience into me and it helps me get in hyperfocus mode, but also improves technique and linework in the process too

Hello, thank you for the video. I have a question if you don't mind me asking. In this video you mentioned using a waterbrush filled with ink diluted in water allows us to shade in grey, what kind of ink can be used here? Won't it clog the water brush? Thank you.

So I've tried to make my water brush into a gray brush pen for a while now and emptied it like 5x but the pigment is still at least twice as dark as I want. I think the bits between the brush and the wash in the barrel is just somehow soaked w this super dark wash. Im about to wash the whole thing 🙃😑 Note: it's been this way for a while it's not that I just tried it bc this video. Just wanted to s/o how difficult it can be to balance

What sort of paper is appropriate for brush pens?
@basilwyrm4 ай бұрын
Something smooth with a heavier weight to it, so a multimedia paper. If you're not worried about bleed and more about tearing, amazingly a lot of paper nowadays is tear resistant if it's make to be used a lot. Not copy paper, but any sort or art paper like sketchbooks or drawing paper should be able to withstand a brush pen amount of ink.

"If every stroke is wonky, no strokes are wonky" 1/wonky X wonky so wonky cuts out and therefore wonky = 1 so there is only 1 thing that is wonky which is the drawing but the drawing is wonky as a whole so no part of the drawing is considred wonky. But then ...more yes. no.
