I love how is style is more realistic than other manga Styles, no big eyes, no cartoonish expressions. The only exaggerated expression we get is pure sadness, insanity, and horror

To describe his style, he is a very professional inker and knows how to use that medium style with his storytelling. Inking is the usage of only black on white, or white on black, and using lines, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and texturing to create shading, textures and elements, it isn't just "line art." Inking's been around for centuries and traditionally can easily be one of the most intimidating art mediums since if you mess up, you can't erase it. My art mentor (Scott Hanna) has been an inker for decades for Marvel and DC, and his interests in the medium unfortunately rubbed off on me.

Not even kidding, I have only recently gotten into Junji Ito books because of a class I'm taking where we had to read the entirety of Uzumaki (and I read the Liminal Zone in my free time). Talk about perfect timing to find this video. Edit: Made it to the end and now I actually have a better appreciation for his work. Also anyone reading this, read The Liminal Zone. She didn't mention or cover any of the stories from that book in this video so you would have no spoilers whatsoever

I may not come here (I was recommended to watch this as a Junji Ito fan) but I can promise you that while it was a long video, it did not FEEL long. It was passionate, informative, and true to heart. A perfect example of Criticism and Constructive Research without allowing bias to get completely in your way ♥ I have also willingly sat through 24+ hours of people playing Uno, so if that tells you anything about me...

Junji Ito's artwork is incredible - but I am not in the headspace now where I can read any horror, Ito's manga, or any other horror, and quite possibly may never be... ...however, the samples of Ito's artwork that you did show, although definitely horrific, I want to someday be in the right headspace where I can read his manga without bad effects on my mental state, because I do want to be able to appreciate more of his work. (And if this isn't a ringing endorsement of this video, I don't know what is!)

Longtime lurker here, though not anymore, I suppose. 😄 I'm still only halfway through this video, but your passion and love for this subject shines through, and I feel this is some of the best content you've ever done. Incredibly insightful, and it was a really fun chance to hear story and narrative analysis from you, which doesn't happen often since you're an art commentary channel, but it made this writer happy anyway. You're _really good_ at it, too. This script is some Super Eyepatch Wolf-level stuff, and the visual examples you provided were impeccable. The presentation's quality kept me watching even though I'm not a horror person at all and am a filthy casual who's only heard of Ito a few times in passing. Sad to hear this isn't doing well, though I totally get it given how the algo--and even life--works. Really, it's the creator's curse: the projects we put the most love and energy into are seemingly the ones most likely to land in front of chirping crickets. It's maddening. Attach that phenomenon to your rent check, and... well. I guess I'll say, a) Keep an eye on this, maybe it'll have a long tail, and b) I hope you get to the point where you feel like you can afford (financially) to make these sorts of passion projects for yourself every once in a while even though they're not sure bets. We creators need personal catharsis every once in a while even when our gig's making stuff for The Audience(tm). And I'd love to just bask in this sort of pure infectious joy on display again sometime. All the best.

Just watching the 2023 anime had inspired me to continue writing again. Ito's stories somehow validates the horrors my mind imagined that terrified me as a child. I see deformed human beings every time I close my eyes and Ito puts those images on a page. That truly terrifies me. That these images are also living rent free in people's minds, that someone had put them into a story to terrify more people. I used to write a lot of paranormal stories and even though I consumed 0 horror media, some people claim my ideas should be classified as horror. Seeing Junji Ito's work made me understand that this fear is a good thing and I should continue to write these disturbing ideas because maybe others would find them fun or interesting. I love writing internal monologue and text-based works are to me the perfect medium to really dig into a person's mind. I'm inspired to drop the fantasical stories I've been writing to make something more visceral and real.

Hi, I'd like to let you knwo that I don't like manga, I don't like horror, I don't like this author, but I watched the video anyway and found it enjoable (actually not surprised ahahah) because your analysises, your explications and your personal opinions about art topics are very interesting, you have a way of talking about art topics that always offers a lot of aspects on which to reflect, so I think that even if the specific topic was not my cup of tea, it was worth it anyway:) And more videos like this could be interesting too. Well, maybe not all of them on this author, but in general commenting why you like some pieces of art (any kind of art, that you have been appreciating for long of that is trending because it was just released, any kind) could make people discover some gems.

This was good, well thought out and nicely paced. The Human Chair is an Edogawa Ranpo story tho', not Ito's. Guy's been in the chair since the 1920's. The adaptation is well good. More positive feedback. (Favourite Ito thing is probably his Cat Diary. It's unhinged.)

I am very interested in the Uzumaki anime, not just because they are actually adapting Junji Ito’s style perfectly into animation, but because the manga and story itself sounds so terrifyingly interesting! I personally like round spinning things like wheels, fans, and even optical illusions like, you guessed it, the spiral! With that said, I’m very interested in buying a copy of Uzumaki so I can experience how Junji Ito can scare me! (As uncomfortable as it can be for me to see things I like depicted in such a horrifying light, I’m not letting that stop me from jumping down the Junji Ito/Uzumaki rabbit hole…or spiral hole!😅🌀🌀🌀🌀

Comments help videos out with the KZbin algorithm, right? Doesn't matter what I'm rambling about? Let's see... I found Hellstar Remina fascinating, but I didn't like the ending. I wish it had just ended on the planet getting eaten, no last-minute reveal that the main characters survived. That reveal undermines the sheer horrifying awe of Earth disappearing. It feels cheap and corny, at least to me. It doesn't change anything, either. Those characters are still toast. They're just going to starve offscreen now, as opposed to going down in the spectacular apocalypse we just saw. What was the point? Still. Everything about the planet Remina itself is awesome. The fact that the world actually ends is awesome.
