The artistry of Danish design (1961 documentary)

With the art of furniture as a guide, this film is on the trail of the mainstay of Danish craftsmanship at all times: A sure sense of material and function as well as respect for craftsmanship quality. It finds it in folk art and in 18th and 19th century artist furniture as well as in the various branches of modern crafts and art industry.
The film shows examples of furniture, ceramics, glass, silver, cutlery and textiles. It was produced in connection to an exhibition "The Arts of Denmark" that took place in USA 1960-1961.

Thank you for posting this very informative documentary. My family lived in Sweden in 1966/1967 and that was our first contact with Scandinavian furniture. It is unique, and is only paralleled by Japanese works; I find a very strong familiarity between the two- it's all about essentials. The Western world has gone to pot; there is absolutely no more real furniture being designed, built, or even imagined. We are now in utter decadence. I was a cabinet maker and furniture restorer.
