Litte update to the review: You CAN actually connect the wheel to the Simucube Link System which lets you use the steering wheel with any wheelbase as long as you have a Link Hub - thanks Mika for the clarification! I didn't know this was possible since it's not mentioned on the Ascher website anywhere (random excuse) but I probably should have just tried - sorry about that! Simucube Tuner with the Link Hub also has a way nicer UI for the Bite Point setting: ibb.co/XtMBHZM Only problem: you need to either buy the Simucube Valo GT 23 or Active Pedals to get the Link Hub 😅 It will be available as a seperate purchase soon though - I'll add the link once it's available!

finally somebody mentioned that some button caps get stuck like a stepsis in the shroud. i also had a lot of conversations with ascher about it in the beginning of last dezember... but atleast they send me new caps which fit better. for the shifters, yes the release rubber-damper-pad in the shifter is to thin, they prob also will make a thicker or harder one. adjustability is kinda possible with the spacers. ascher also send me shorter screws, so i could use the upper shifters without spacers. so technically u have 3 settings for the shifters, normal (flush) distance, with spacers or mounted on the front side. and for the grip size, i´m wearing size 10/11 gloves and the grips are super comfy for me :)

Is a shame that they will improve the steering wheel and the first buyers are stuck with the bad ones. My only complain is that the shifters are not properly dampened. They are loud and not what i was expected. At this point they should give new ones in exchange for the old batches.
@RocceFella187
@RocceFella187 10 ай бұрын
@@HDRGamingHub i feel u. in the end the only problem is, like i said, the thickness of the damper pads. so the "new batches" will max have better / thicker pads. there is no way that the shifters itself get redesigned. i ended up with adding some cotton tape in the shifter housing on both sides and its way more quiet now ;)

Excellent video, thanks for diving into the wheel. The bottom rotaries however do work as encoders! Near those LED switches are switches that allow you to swap between 12 position and rotary mode on each bottom rotary. Edit: I did in fact discover I was wrong. @MongrelTom
@MongrelTom 6 ай бұрын
@DanSuzuki Sure but there doesn't seem to be any owners posting reviews either & so for the price, it leaves a little piece of anxiety ha ha. I want a mainly VR based wheel ... I'm looking at the gsi x-29, ascher f64 v3 usb, grid mpx v2 (sold out all over) & then the gsi hyper sl. Obviously the hyper sl hits the higher price point & features but does it justify it enough vs the others? I've read that the x29 nails comfort/ergo but lacks some features ... design is nice but not as premium as the ascher or hyper sl. Where would your money go? (I know you're affiliated but trust your honest/unbiased view). Love the content.
@DanSuzuki
@DanSuzuki 6 ай бұрын
@@MongrelTom Wouldn't recommend the F64 anymore, it's just a little bit dated and doesn't feel as nice as the other options - if you want Ascher I'd get the new McLaren wheel, even though I personally think Grid and GSI is a little bit above that in terms of quality - still, a very very good wheel. If you like thin grips the MPX2 is a great choice, I personally find the funky switch placement a bit odd, but it might be better with the smaller knobs on the v2 - I haven't tested this one yet. As for GSI the X29 actually is very comparable in quality to all our other options, the only difference it you get an aluminum front and not a carbon fiber front and we all know the more carbon fiber the faster you will be! All elements inside are exactly the same as on the higher end wheels, just less inputs. The SL surely is the top of the line with tons of features - if you really need all those? Well - that's not something I can answer for you - my honest opinion is: I personally do not need all those inputs 😅 If you like the shape/design of the FPE v2 then waiting for the new GXL v2 might also be an option - will come out later this year 😅 And to confuse you even more: check out the offerings from Soelpec and Delta Simtech - they both also have great wheels without displays! Also ... use code DAN5 to get a little discount on GSI gear - both on our website and on Sim Race Shop!
@MongrelTom
@MongrelTom 6 ай бұрын
@DanSuzuki thanks ever so much. Those other options really opened my eyes & challenged my thought process, particularly the Solepec. Taking all into account, I opted for the hyper sl, it just really looks like the full package (& more so 😅) for my needs. I engaged my brain, checked out the discord where I got more info & views + I watched a ton about the p1 ... I'm very confident that it will meet expectations. Thanks again! (I still find it strange that review units aren't out in the wild ... I guess it's quite a limited market at the higher price points so maybe it's assumed or reality that consumers put the energy into researching before purchase? For me as a new customer entering the GSI ecosystem it's not the greatest experience but hey, I'll get over it 😅).

I can confirm the grips are too small on this wheel and the lack of adjustability of the shifters is a real pain point. Particularly on upshifts when I pull the paddle back it hits the back of my fingers because there is so little space between the wheel and the shifter. A bit disappointing. I also have the Grid MPX and GSI X-29. I'd opt for either of them over the Ascher if you have medium to large hands. The shifters feel great they just need to be spaced better.

@@mack1fd you can also flip the paddle shifters to the other side of the mount for more spacing from the wheel. I didn't feel the need to do for that mine but it's quite simple to do. I have medium to large hands and thought the wheel might be too small at first as well (especially coming from the fanatec mclaren gt3 wheel). Now I find the Ascher to be the perfect size. More of an example of personal preference. I for example keep a very loose grip on the wheel so that may be a factor for that as well.

The wireless SC2-connection has one benefit: The wheel is recognised with the SC2-base as one unit. Games like AMS2 require to be launched with all peripherals you want to use. It won't recognise stuff that is activated later and usually I forget to turn on my wheel until I'm on the track, but no problem with my Ascher Wireless because the SC2 Pro is always on. Older games like AMS only supports I think 5 USB-devices in this case, so one less with this method.
