In the first WTC, Australia was docked points for a slow over rate (they would have qualified for the final). NZ got lucky due to the lack of games during covid. Jarred Kimber has a video explaining these things.

The urn holds the "remains of English cricket", which is basically just some burnt bails, and they were alleged to be sent to Australia after England lost to Australia. The next time England went to Australia, the local press claimed that England were regaining the Ashes of English cricket, and hence the Ashes was born.

If England win the 3rd test on this 2023 Ashes,it's going to be fever pitch for the 4th match! Been an absolutely gripping Ashes series. Aussies are building a nice record since their test win in India. last 5 matches ,4 wins and a draw away from home.

Let it go mate, I've seen Bay13 behave better or the Hill at the SCG than the long room. I just want to see some cricket. I'm running on so little sleep watching this series as it is, I just don't have the energy for the controversy.

@@CricketforAmericansthere's been a huge blow up over an incident day 5 of the lords test. Still needing 178 runs to win, 5 wickets down, Jonny Bairstow just dozily wanders out of his crease, last ball of the over and Carey threw the stumps down to get him out stumped. Umpires were asleep as well, referred it to the 3rd umpire who gave it out. After that the crowd went nuts chanting "cheat cheat cheat, same old Aussies always cheating". The Australian players were jostled by the lords members when coming back to the dressing room in the tea break. Lots of vile abuse was shouted at them, Usman Khawaja of all people stood up to them, then David Warner got involved( not surprising) Steve smiths mother had to leave the ground for safety concerns, the crowd bullied a 11 year old kid of the Australian support staff and made him cry. Just completely got out of control. In the end aus won by 43 runs, and that margin is flattered by some backs to the wall, nothing to lose slogging from Ben stokes. Piers Morgan, Geoffrey Boycott and Ben stokes have all got on their high horse saying the dismissal was not in the spirit of cricket. Boycott has asked Pat Cummins to apologise for not withdrawing the appeal. Even the British PM had his say saying Australia haven't played in the spirit of cricket with that appeal. Australian PM hit back backing the team saying "Same old Aussies, always winning" At the end of the day it was definitely out, no question and most English ex cricketers agree with Australia that there shouldn't be any controversy with the dismissal. Again English fans and media being sore losers. That incidents been big news - surprised you didn't hear about it
