The Adaptive Sports & Inclusive Recreation Initiative (ASIRI) Introduction to Wheelchair Tennis. The mission of ASIRI is to increase awareness, knowledge, access, and participation in adaptive sports among students and teachers in the K to 12 education system. Our goal is to demonstrate that adaptive sports, like goalball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair tennis, meet the state guidelines for general physical education. Adaptive sports are for everyone, if you can sit, you can play!
This video introduces the sport of wheelchair tennis and is helpful for teachers and students that would like to try the sport. The video covers topics like information about the sport, how to play, the equipment used, strategies for playing, some teaching tips, and some drills to learn and play the sport.
This video was made possible by the support of University of Michigan Adaptive Sports & Fitness Assistant Director, Chris Kelley, and the UM Wheelchair Tennis Team.
