The Assassin's Assassin: A Case Study of the Jack Ruby Trial

America watched as Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged assassin of President John F. Kennedy, was shot point blank by Jack Ruby on November 24, 1963 at the Dallas Police headquarters as he was being transferred to the Dallas County Jail. This was the first murder broadcast live on American television. In the emotional aftermath of the Kennedy assassination, Ruby’s case was rushed to trial. Held just months later, Ruby’s trial was hailed by news media as “the trial of the century.”
Furnished with newly released documents from the original prosecution file, Judge Brandon Birmingham and criminal defense attorney/former Dallas County assistant district attorney Toby Shook presented “The Assassin’s Assassin: A Case Study of the Jack Ruby Trial.” This presentation included a chronological overview of the case as well as a legal analysis of the defense strategy and verdict.

They released a short conclusion in Warren Report, first 25 pages. If you want more detail, you can read the whole detailed report, 468 pages. If you want more, read the 18 appendix they added, another ~500 pages. If you want even more, you can read the 26 volumes of testimonies and pictures/scans of documents of evidence, nearly 20,000 pages. Or you can read any of the 5+ million pages that have been released due to demand by conspiracy believers. So, to recap... conspiracy believers demand more information... government releases it... and now you're saying them releasing so much is evidence there was a conspiracy?!? And there's been countless conspiracy researchers who go through ALL of those pages and files with a fine tooth comb, searching or anything... even the slightest hint of any possible conspiracy... so they can write their new book with new evidence. I'm curious if Mark Shaw had anything to do with this museum expanding their exhibits to include Jack Ruby. Mark Shaw has stated prior to this presentation that this museum was only interested in Lee Oswald as the "lone shooter." Mark has a copy of the Ruby trial transcripts that he tried to v pass to the museum. They refused. I think b Mark Shaw deserves some credit here.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in a unanimous opinion that Jack Ruby's jailhouse confession was improperly admitted into evidence at trial and additionally, that the trial court erred in refusing to grant the motion for change of venue. The appellate court overturned Ruby's conviction and death sentence, and ordered that he be retried in some location other than Dallas County.

You seem to be talking about the Dallas Police Department dictabelt recording, and no, that recording does not prove there were at least two gunman. After the original acoustical analysis of the recording was presented to the HSCA in 1978 as "proof" of a second gunman, the recording over the next few years was analyzed by other acoustical experts who disagreed with the original analysis and said that the recording did not capture any gunshots after all. By now, quite a few different acoustics experts have analyzed the recording, and the majority of them do not agree that there are gunshots on that recording. So today the dictabelt recording cannot reasonably be considered a bonafide audio recording of the gunfire.

An independent company, Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc., did the analysis. The HSCA concluded "that Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy". It was only afterwards that the FBI (a state body) claimed that they were mistaken. You know, the same state body that never properly investigated the case and have allowed President Kennedy's murderers to escape justice to this day.

Assassination researcher Steve Barber repeatedly listened to that recording and heard the words "Hold everything secure until the homicide and other investigators can get there" at the point where the HSCA had concluded the assassination shots were recorded. However, those words were spoken by Sheriff Bill Decker about 90 seconds after the assassination, so the shots could not be when the HSCA claimed., which showed that the police motorcycle wasn’t where the HSCA experts thought it was. Further analysis by a branch of the National Academy of Sciences (NOT under the FBI) also discredited the acoustic evidence of a fourth shot.

If LHO was allowed to live, he would have been able to tell his side of the story which would have blown the lid off of the conspiracy to assassinate John F Kennedy. I was still in grade school when JFK was shot, early teens. Read a lot about it over the years, there is at least one conspiracy theory for every day of the year. The most telling thing for me was seeing the Secret Service supervisor pull all the SS agents away from the vehicle moments before the shots were fired. YES! Dallas mayor Earle Cabell was brother of Charles Cabell, who had been deputy director of the CIA and "coincidentally" had been made to resign (aka fired) by JFK. Also it seems that E Cabell had been a CIA asset since mid 1950's AND apparently had been in charge of overseeing trip arrangements for JFK's trip to Dallas. It would seem Roscoe White was the knoll shooter. most likely the stand in for Oswald backyard photo and most likely the man who killed Tippit. Why has Roscoe been pushed aside? Well, I think it points too close a finger on the powers that be, the CIA, FBI and others. Seems the shooters had nicknames. Roscoe was Mandarin... the guy in the book depository was Lebanon (we don't know who he was) and the guy in the Dal-Tex Building was Saul (don't know who he was either but reminds me of the show "Better call Saul"). I believe these were all government hit men.

Swanky, Hi I agree with you. Please read Joseph McBride book "into the nightmare. My investigation into the JFK assassination and the officer Tippit Killing" it's very good. Dallas police were very corrupt in 1960's and earlier. And many were KKK members. They even showed book author Mcbride their KKK badges along With their police badges. I think Roscoe White was a dirty cop and was involved in the assassination of JFK and the Officer Tippit killing. White left town shortly afterwards and disappeared.

I think when he got the call to hit JFK he was none too happy about it but I don't think he had a choice. The way I see it. Roscoe was a killer in the war. He thought he was doing the right thing for his country and his people and then he got the calls to do hits, here in the states and was cool with it, till he had to start killing people he didn't understand why they had to go, all the way up to JFK and I doubt he wanted to do that hit, I think he had to. He had a wife and kid and he had killed others in his lifetime. His family would have been in danger. I'm not justifying what he did, I'm just saying I don't think he had a choice. I mean honestly, what is going to happen to him if he refused this assignment? Know what I mean? That Sir , well , it is a lie ! Ruby knew Oswald very well and Ruby used Oswald to place a rifle inside the book depository. Oswald took the rifle inside the building that morning and placed it there for the actual shooter but the shooter was not Oswald. Ruby was making money as a gun rumner , Ruby was involved in the black market of selling guns to the mob. Ruby had acess to many different kinds of guns on the market and Ruby told Oswald to place the rifle in the exact place in the build , Oswald did it for a fee. Oswald needed the money and Owald worked in the place and was the only one that could place the gun there without raising suspension. Ruby had to hush (Oswald) or the selling of illegal guns to the mob would be revealed and the mob would have Ruby's ass. Oswald said that he was a patsy , he was exactly that , a pasty to get the gun inside the building for the shooter but this shooter did not hit Kennedy with his shot , the shooter hit Governor Connelly. The shot that hits Governor Connelly came from the book depository , it missed Kennedy because the shooter couldn't hit a moving target when the scope on the rifle was off and needed adjustment. The trajectory of the shot was meant for a head shot but the scope was low and to the right abd hit Connelly instead. Oswsld only role and unsuspecting was to place the rifle in the building on the sixth floor which he did that morning upon arriving to to work. Ruby paid Oswald to place the package there as Ruby supplied all the shooters that day with the guns that were used in the assassination except for the headshot gun. The headshot gun was a pistol with hollow point bullets that exploded or fragments on impact. They were going to kill Kennedy that day , euther at the plaza or at the speaking arrangement in Dallas thst day. They were set up at the speaking or dining hall where Kennedy was to speak if they abort call came while on the motorcade through the plaza. Ruby was covering his own ass by taking out Oswald because it would have been uncovered in their gun running ventures.

Pulling the trigger of a pistol with your middle finger allows you to wrap your index finger over the top of the barrel and hold the gun more securely making it more difficult for you to be disarmed if you are shooting at close quarters. Ruby was convinced Oswald had done it based on early evidence and media reports, and time proved him right. Bugliosi was convinced Ruby acted quickly and irrationally and simply shot based on chance opportunity. One thing that cannot be disputed is that Oswald was way over time for being taken to the jail down the road toward Dealey Plaza and that the reason for that was also happenstance (an interrogator decided only after church to go assist with the Oswald questioning that Sunday), so conspiracy be damned right there.
