The next week we went to her church, she did not warn me people might be “speaking in tongues”. The time came, and I apologize if this might offend someone, but really? I never believed for a moment it was a language or associated with a "divine" entity. I didn't even know other people engaged in the activity until I was 20/21. Just thought it was this cool thing I can do. I've met one other person with a similar experience; where like me they developed it independent of outside influence (no church indoctrination). The singer of the icelandic band Sigur Ros sings in glossolalia, though they call it hopelandic as they do not recognize it as coming from a god, but rather the singers emotions being expressed through the sounds of language.

Love AXP and Matt together with Shannon are my two favorite hosts by far. It's a good cop/bad cop relationship and they're BOTH perfect for those roles. This week's show was great as usual. I'm sure many clips will be viable candidates for next week's highlight reel. But I have to say with all due respect .... (wincing a bit), the barking dog in the background the entire time was driving me bonkers. As a dog owner and lover I'd like to make a suggestion. We have an Australian cattle dog named Ruthie. She is a BARKER. Her bark is very shrill and when she gets going it's difficult to make her stop. We started training her by using a bottle of compressed air. When she starts in especially at night we take the can, and in a firm voice say "QUIET!" and give a shot or two from the can in her direction. The noise startles her but is in no way physically harmful. Then when she goes quiet we immediately give positive reinforcement by saying "YES! good quiet". Most dogs are amazingly loving animals who just want to please us. So far this technique, suggested by a professional trainer is working. She's not completely cured of the constant barking but it has helped quite a bit. PS- We also have a cat who switches from a soft fluffy purring ball of love to an insane rabid attack weasel in an instant. I'm not dumb enough to believe any amount of "training" will remedy this behavior. Please don't pile on. I'm just trying to offer a helpful suggestion :)

I have studied Self-Organization in Nature. Entropy is not the "END", rather it is an observable creative force! I believe Einstein's "Curvature of Space-Time", (Which causes Gravity). Space-Time is CIRCULAR, and a circle has neither a "Beginning, nor an End". There is no such thing as "Infinite Regress". I always rejected the creation nonsense called "Big Bang". Our Universe had neither a "BIGINNING" nor an "END". This is religious rubbish! The Universe is a system of cycles!

If someone claims to speak to an invisible entity via a hair dryer and they are deemed mentally unstable and/or deficient, why is not seen in the same light if someone does it without the hair dryer? I would love to hear the reasoning for that. I understand it is indoctrination and fear, but under any other circumstances outside of religious reasons, an individual could be held for psychological evaluation.

In churches, the conversation is with God, but the dialogue is also with the community and with the self. It's not that different from a performance - the performer is in communication with the writer of the material, with the other players and the audience. When the audience laughs, cries, or applauds, they are communicating with the writer, the performers and each other. It's just not the same as talking to a hair dryer. At all. Religious practice is a relationship with tradition, family, the community, and the self.

Mark did not say that the mentally ill should be mocked. He said that in circumstances other than religion it would be thought that people who spoke to invisible men on a weekly basis were mentally ill. He did not say that religion is co-equal to mental illness. He said that a particular behavior would be considered a hallmark of mental illness under other circumstances. He did not say that this consideration would be an accurate medical diagnosis, and he did not say that we should mock people that are considered to be mentally ill. Meanwhile, Matt mocks most theist callers, labeling them idiots, morons, dishonest or immoral. When Matt mocks the religious, he gets thousands of likes and views, but if Mark doesn't mock the religious, he gets accused of mocking them like Matt mocks his religious callers, which is a bad thing, except when Matt does it, then it's good. This is a travesty.

@@nicolasgamant7389 lol I'd maintain that language-barrier defence if you're going to keep scribbling such nonsensical gibberish in the comments sections.... lay it on us: what's Paedoson's impotent interpretation of christianity? No one has tried to associate him with an evangelical christian; Shannon compared the caller to an evangelical meme generator. I have the Jordan Peterson Word Salad Generator bookmarked. I thought it would be novel to compare an actual automated word salad generator with a human caller who gives off the impression of being a mindless drone spitting out gibberish that had been programmed into it. Now this is at least the second, if not third instance of you saying something that indicates that you *ABSOLUTELY AND FUNDAMENTALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND* either the words you're using, or the ones you're responding to. THAT'S FINE...but don't get all ornery when I don't feel like hammering out several lines of explanation for why your response to me is ridiculous. Don't cry that I'm condescending to you because you lack the initiative, interest or intellect to see a word you typed with a squiggly line under it, right click and select the correct spelling from the drop down menu; or to type something up entirely in your language (apparament vous parler français...) with the word "translate" at the beginning and "to English" at the end; I've got news for you *ALTHOUGH I SPEAK FRENCH FLUENTLY, MY READING LEVEL IS BELOW 1ST GRADE* so if I made some bullshit claim about something you said, clearly demonstrating that I didn't understand what you said, nor have a firm grasp on what I'm saying, and you responded with some quip about me demonstrating that I might not be entirely literate....well, you'd be making an accurate observation. I wouldn't cry about you attacking me instead of my argument because that wouldn't be an attack. If you're going to throw mud, try doing at least a half-assed job doing it. And let this paragraph stand in place of a response to every one of your snivelling, whiny complaints about people picking on you because "English isn't your first language." Who says it's mine? If I, or anyone else, points out to you that at the same time as you are misspelling a word, your are misusing it too and that it makes it look like you haven't got a firm grasp of reading, instead of a knee jerk complaint that you're being unfairly picked on, cope. Better yet, try harder. live well
