First time i have seen the show, laughed so hard. The absolutely delusional minds you have to attempt to have a coherent discussion with, is what makes this so funny. I really have to give you credit, I myself in your position undoubtedly would frequently either become quite impatient and angry or outright hysterically cry when attempting to reason whit these people. Hey Bobby: You can actually perform the experiment you suggested. Just go to an area where missionaries haven't visited and talk to the people there about their religious beliefs. I can GUARANTEE that their concept of God is not the same as yours. Take Christianity for example. Notice how NO ONE that hasn't already been exposed to it has ever reached those same conclusions. Why is that?

Shmir of Orlando, I am an atheist. I meditate. The problem with Buddhism is that it has an ideology. Its ideology may be less problematic than other ideologies but it still ideological. That is, and should be, a problem for skeptics.

I have prime examples, I was stopped by the cops because a man said I vandalized his car. They took me to jail and I was out on bail in six hours. A month later when the case went to trail, it was thrown out in under twenty minutes for lack of evidence. Also, after an argument/break up with my ex she called the cops saying I hit her. The cops stopped me, but since there was no evidence of a physical altercation, no bruises on her or me, the let me go and cited her for false accusations.

And this is why I think it is important to distinguish between the various types of skepticism. Skepticism about truth claims is an ethical/should or shouldn't type of position, not a truth claim itself, therefore being skeptical of skepticism is not mandated by this type of skepticism. If, however, you are advising to be skeptical of all truth claims _and_ ethical positions, then you have your self-defeating position. Thus, I break off from complete skepticism and have ethical axioms.

I had absolutely no evidence to show that I didn't vandalize the mans car. The man also had no evidence beyond eyewitness testimony that I had vandalized his car. With no evidence that I had vandalized his car, such as, possession of property, a can of spray paint, or any other item to commit vandalism with, the case had absolutely no chance of standing. Prime examples of presenting without evidence you will be dismissed without evidence.

Nishan never clarified his first question, he kept rambling with Kalama Sutta. Many people tries to give you info of where it will be aiming at, and he did that, but he never asked the question. Re: Shmir from Orlando - in the writings of the words of the Buddha, he clearly states that discussions of God or no-God, as well as discussions of Soul or no-Soul are useless and a waste of time - because they are only distractions, and keep you from achieving the goal of Nirvana. The Buddha would generally shut down any questions of this type. And yes, you can most certainly practice meditation strictly for the medical benefits - it helps with sleep/insomnia issues, high blood pressure and relief from anxiety.

Take a look at studies done with "split-brain" patients, whose corpus collosums were severed to prevent the spread of epilepsy. One example: One person was shown a card, to her right brain only, with the word "laugh". The researcher had told her to do as the card instructed. She began to laugh and when the researcher asked her why she was laughing, she says "oh you guys are really something..you must have told me a joke." This was her left brain responding, trying to complete the puzzle.

Very good question. If there was a God who actually cared if humans 'believed' in Him, he'd make it absolutely and unambiguously clear that He existed.

I think the only difference between Islam and Christianity is that Muslims aren't afraid to put all their cards on the table at one time. Christians want to ease you into it, a little at the time. But make no mistake, Christian leaders want the same power as their Muslim counterparts, and will work towards that once the foot is in the doorway.

Yeah ok. The caller who called about islamophobia was not mischaracterizing what Pat Condell said about the mosque at ground zero. I can agree that I wouldn't want something like that to be financed by the Saudis and as an atheist I'm not too happy about any huge religious building but to basically equate radical Islam to all of Islam constitutes islamophobia, and that is very much what Pat did.

Bobby - Los Angeles asked, "Is 2+2 still gonna = 4?" Yes, Bobby. Math is indeed mind independent, but it is not reality independent. 2+2=4 because that is an the nature of existence. Things exist. Things are quantifiable. If there are 2 things somewhere, and 2 more things arrive in that same place, there will then be 4 things there. That is a brute fact that doesn't prove anything supernatural.
